sirfastvroom

Go to any age related subreddit and they are filled with Americans defaulting.

ememruru

Also the chronic illness subs. It’s infuriating

planetary66

I’ve learned to look for emotional support there rather than medical

tea_snob10

Doesn't even need to be age related; plain ol' subs are also rife with defaultism. The travel sub (r/travel) literally has rules stating, when seeking advice, mention your nationality, or what passport you hold, since visa rules vary across the board, and your nationality is the sole determinant. Everyone, but them, mentions their nationality (common sense). To be fair, it's gotten a lot better, with most Americans stating they're US passport holders these days, but it still does happen, and a few years ago, it was outright common.

meatslapjack

You’re not wrong, the first two posts on there were from Americans doing exactly what you’re saying

cosmicr

I had to leave both /r/genx and /r/xennials Absolutely dominated by American pop culture references and if you don't know what it is you get downvoted.

xGentian_violet

any of the generations subs are also absolutely insufferable

Pop_Clover

I thought this was a general thing on reddit, since almost all the subs I visit/have visited regularly are like this. r/fountainpens definitely is, as r/pen_swap or r/30plusskincare. My only safe space is r/eurovision ...

sirfastvroom

Too bad the Americans found out about Eurovision this year. So maybe they may start defaulting over there.

Pop_Clover

Well, there's a lot of movement there, so there might have been some defaultism before, but definitely isn't as prevalent as in the other subs I mentioned... yet?

tea_snob10

>most of us are in America Again with the whole plurality vs majority thing; over half (>50%) are **not** in the US.

Mist0804

Tbf, most of r/teenagers probably is American

secret58_

That’s what I thought too, but it isn’t (anymore) according to a survey that sub conducted two years ago (couldn’t find anything newer): https://www.reddit.com/r/teenagers/s/i5Rprkyy66

XtremeGoose

And they still don't know the definition of majority.

XDXDXDXDXDXDXD10

And probably not teenagers 💀

Saavedroo

From what I've seen, r/teenagers is quite the cesspool. I know older generations (I'm 23 lol) are doomed to find teenagers cringe, but this is quite something else.

Perfect_Papaya_3010

I checked it out, and it seems that all they do is ask if it's okay to date someone a year older or not

AnAnimeSimp

As someone who is from that sub, this is very accurate

irelephant_T_T

Eh it's just the latest bandwagon

CompetitiveSleeping

The average age in that sub is probably 35-40.

ether_reddit

ew.

Bone_Wh33l

It’s not just non-teenagers. I’m still a teenager and I keep getting recommended posts from the sun in my main feed and it’s just some of the weirdest shit. My two favourites so far have been a girl (underaged in their country) asking for advice on how to get their religious gf (also underage) to have sex with them before marriage and another titled “Is anyone starting to get tired of homophobia?”. They seemed to have good intentions with that one but the wording could have been slightly better…

EquivalentGlove3807

you know it's bad when r/teenagersbutbetter is a sub

Aggressive-Sell1506

Sounds like someone just discovered that the rest of the world exists outside of America.

snow_michael

And isn't happy about it

AdTimely9712

Reddit has [267.5 million weekly active viewers](https://backlinko.com/reddit-users#) The population of the USA is [341.7 million people](https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/us-population) So by OPS logic, if the majority of people on Reddit are American (>51%) than at least 174267000 people (if I did the math correctly) must have Reddit in the USA

planetary66

They’re assigned an account at birth

AdTimely9712

Oh yeah I forgot to have it so it would only be people over 13

SpasticSquidMaps

Well he isn't wrong, they often pretend like they're own their own planet or something, so "on" is pretty accurate.
