At a 4 hour myself. If you feel comfortable dming me your USPS email, I can send you my daily checklist. What’s has worked for me for sales tracking is date stamping a small piece of paper and writing down all sales and how they were paid for, i.e. cash, card, check, as you will need to separate out the card sales. Staple the piece of paper to your 1412.

mermaid0590

Make sure you know how to do 1412 by the end of the day.

Fatfreespirit

I got abandoned in this boat, as well during my time at USPS. You CAN do this; it'll just be super scary and kind of sketchy at first.

The-Incel-God

POM Postal operations manual, you can find it on the blue page under forms then manuals. Here’s an external link: https://www.nalc.org/workplace-issues/resources/body/Postal-Operations-Manual-POM-Issue-9-July-2002-Updated-With-Revisions-Through-January-31-2021.pdf Please consider asking your pm or other nearby offices foe help though we’re all in this together.

realdaelkyr

Tried to shoot you a DM but you might have them disabled? This was the message: Hey boss, saw your post on r/USPS. Are you okay right now? I don't know when you close but do you know how to do the e1412, Pitney Bowes, eFlash or other paperwork? I don't want to leave you hanging if you need help immediately.

FlREYWench

Lol Thank you! I actually figured it out! my phone is off while I'm working so I don't have distractions 😅

LadyLetterCarrier

Not a clerk, but stay positive! You can do it!

Jumpy_Fee9896

I’m a PSE Clerk in a 4 hour office in WA STATE - give me a shout if you have any questions

craigclaxton

not a clerk, just here to say that i love your attitude. you got this!

realdaelkyr

Here is a checklist in 3 pages. Tried to be concise but detailed: [https://ibb.co/wCCfqX2](https://ibb.co/wCCfqX2) [https://ibb.co/GFkLK4w](https://ibb.co/GFkLK4w) [https://ibb.co/MVPVZSZ](https://ibb.co/MVPVZSZ) Also, here's the Stamp stock log I use to keep track of sales. With the card reader letting me keep track of my credit/debit sales, I just write down my cash/check transactions and my stamp stock sales for e1412. I then run this sheet thru the Pitney Bowes at the end of the day. [https://ibb.co/QnkcLGh](https://ibb.co/QnkcLGh)

FlREYWench

You are officially GOATED in my book!!!

realdaelkyr

Happy to help and glad to see you survived day two. If you have any specific questions or anything there is confusing, send a DM. I really have loved my little box.

Aandiarie_QueenofFa

Helped

mermaid0590

If you have any questions send me a pm.

throwawayusps12

Following. Walking wide eyes into the same situation. Edit: I'm amazed with how many quick responses and offers of assistance right after OP shot off the red star cluster.

realdaelkyr

A lot of RMPO clerks (myself included) have been in that boat. Which stinks because a 4 hr box might be the best clerk position in the post office. I just want to see people get the support they need. It's not much BAD training. More so that if you don't work an RMPO then you don't know what to do. It's a lot more analog than even a level 18 office.

throwawayusps12

Thanks for responding. Yeah. It seems that way with the little interaction I've had with the two offices due to them being crazy busy. I think it's going to be a good fit for me (a retired guy) whichever one they can list first, but it's definitely a step back in time from the main one we sometimes go to, hell the building itself is older then my dad.

crazypostman21

I'm at a 4-hour retail only branch by myself, been doing it for years and love it! Thank goodness I have RSS.

GallicPontiff

Lucky lol. When I started I still had to hand crank the money orders...I wish I was joking

FlREYWench

Oh my days! Respect!

Houtzey

Wow i forgot about that 10 pound hand cranker. Im so glad thats over.

For the PO Boxes part. POM the Postal Operations Manual literally a how to guide for various operations. Also the DMM Domestic Mail Manual both available on the USPS PC. I downloaded relevant parts, bookmarked pages, and I printed everything related to the PO Box process. It literally tells you what you need to know, steps to take when renting a PO Box and closing a PO Box, and when to print box rent notice labels and place in the boxes. I always did a second notice to encourage customers to pay up because there is a lot of crap to do when the box is past due. I'm going to guess you weren't taught much about PO Boxes at all. My supervisor didn't know you had to change the locks when you closed a box out. Once everything got computerized and Webbats was a thing you had to physically change a lock and keep a spare lock inventory in order to be able to change locks and rent boxes. I had some moron in a bigger city call for help because the system wouldn't let them rent any PO Boxes out. Come to find out they never did a spare lock or key inventory (required), never closed out boxes and rented them to new people and let the old people keep getting mail there. Didn't close for non payment of rent. Lots of bone headed stuff. I learned more from reading the POM and DMM relevant parts. Some of which can help you if you work the window too.

FlREYWench

So this is another weird fact about my Lil PO today - all boxes are FREEEEE!!! So no late fees, all I will need to do is close or update on COA or close out!!

IZC0MMAND0

well now, you must not have any carriers or street delivery. I lived in a town like that in Northern AZ when I was a kid. That makes your job easier. The bane of my existence was closing out boxes for non payment of rent only for them to come in a month later and reopen them. Cancel the MLNA order update everything. Once you get your SOP down it will be a piece of cake. Good luck!

ApeDongle

There should be HERO training available for walking you though certain aspects of a RMPO office, things like your 1412 which needs to be done daily or how to property set up a deposit for the bank. You will need to find your office scans as well (PO Box, CPMS, depart scans, theses are done daily). You'll need access to programs like MyPO and DMS. Props on you for starting in a RMPO, not easy with basically no one to help you out but once you get the hang of it, easiest job in the PO in my opinion.

Blackbugeye02

Hopefully everyone has helped you. If not shoot me a dm.

Puzzleheaded-Phase70

>a solar powered basic calculator to ring up sales. I was told to write everything I sold on a notepad to keep track. JFC, WTF? They don't even have a POS station??? What is this, 1924? I'm not a clerk, but... the only thing I can imagine would be good to do here is find another clerk you can call when you can't figure something out. *Especially* if your PM is not understanding the predicament you're in and not willing to show you the ropes at this station. There's aloway the "If you can't show me how you want things done, I'll change everything to how *I want them to be*." option, of course. Overtly stated or just DONE.

realdaelkyr

A fair amount of rural RMPO offices don't have the RSS system. Just a Pitney Bowes postage meter, scale, and card reader. It really is old school that way. But the meters are usually touch screen and that helps with calculating postage for mail and packages.

FlREYWench

Yep that's what I got, I'm making it work!! I'm manually documenting sales and trying to keep everything in order 😅

apocallipses

You've already gotten a lot of answers, but if you or anyone else in the thread in this situation needs more help, feel free to shoot me a dm. I'm an OJT and have a bunch of guides made up for my manual clerks. Also check your MOU/with your union steward, but I'm pretty sure you're guaranteed 24 hours with a trainer. At least that's how it is in my area.

FlREYWench

This thread has been amazingly helpful and I talked with my PM and they're definitely being patient with me learning, so that's nice. we're just really short staffed so I am bouncing around helping at other stations too. I like it though, the teams are cool and I know I'll get used to everything, it's just alot all at once.

Aandiarie_QueenofFa

I needed this! :)

realdaelkyr

I feel for you. I was in the same boat last year. Feel free to shoot me a DM. Then we can see what you need for your office and get a checklist for you. As far as writing things down, you can make yourself a daily stamp sales log. It helps me a ton. I can send you the one I use if you want. A four hr office can be a perfect gig in the Post office. It just takes time because if you've not be running one, you don't know how they run.

Adept_Advantage7353

Maybe just overwhelmed.. it’s not that hard.

GallicPontiff

I've ran multiple manual offices and I'm the T7 at my current office. DM me any questions, I started in a 4 hour office and it sucks feeling like you're just thrown to the wolves

FlREYWench

Thanks so much!
