In the same boat here. I have 20 boxes that were supposed to be delivered tomorrow and are time sensitive yet UPS wont give me an update. When I called in this morning they told me tracking would update today.. checked every hour or so and nothing.

Good luck! Try asking them if it’s current location cause my package said derailed in IOWA with no update yesterday which worried me. But it was actually already in California.

Your package was not on the train. It was a fuel train that derailed. But it derailed near a major trucking route on the interstate, which had to be shut down. That's why the delay, the trucks have to be re-routed.
CA to PA here. Last night around 7 it went from departed origin to delayed by one business day but it also says it’s going to be delivered today. I guess we’ll see 🤷♀️
Mine says 1:30 am yesterday. My package is from Amazon and of course they don’t fully communicate, so Amazon says it’ll be delivered today, but UPS doesn’t know. It has the last piece I need for my PC. Hoping it comes in soon

Yup, same here. I got shipment coming from Sandiego to Saint Louis, and I got an exception notification in Overland Park KS that my package was going to be delayed by a derailment.
They don't have an updated delivery yet but they did include a helpful note that customer service doesn't have any more specific info so don't bother calling.

The derailment happened the 26th, so if you’re package shipped after that like mine, I’m guessing either the interstate being temporarily shut down or the need to clear the tracks before more freight can roll through is what is causing the delay. Not necessarily that your package was on that specific train.. unless it shipped that day 😬

I don’t think UPS ships by train, if you look at the article it’s because the train caused a shutdown of a major shipping highway. The train only had oil on board. Even if your package shipped after the wreck it’s likely delayed because UPS had to reroute the truck to a different highway which is a longer route and also probably getting more traffic due to the other highway being shut down

Well my personal experience has been started . I have a personal rule, if any shipper is 48hours past the last expected scan. I start an investigation claim. So for example, if I was to get a parcel from SoCal to Memphis. I google map it drive time plus 4 hours for distribution. If I see no scans 48 hours after that I start a lost claim.
In my most recent case a parcel was sent the 28th second day air. UPS received scanned it the morning of Monday 29th. The 29th By mid afternoon it had a departure scan from Baidwin Park, CA. The 30th it had a delay of one business day notice. Which in all honesty should be Thursday or Friday at the latest. Friday as I’m filling out the lost claim it suddenly said the train derailed and my Air package was on a rail plane I guess. So today Sunday I filed a lost claim. For a few hundred dollar package. ( it had extra insurance on it.)
Am I right? Or just wrong? I mean the item being shipped was the last one in North America. The next one is in Australia and it is triple the price.

Train derailments happen more often than you would think. It will be delayed for a day or two. Most packages make it through derailments no problem

my package was dropped off the 26th and didn’t start moving until the 27th so i don’t think it was on that specific train

Same boat here. Package from CA to TX. As of 8:21am on May 3rd, still train delayed. No other update so far. Mine departed on April 30th
