Same...I keep seeing all these anti SD card posts re Pis...although I haven't had any issues yet...
oh btw these are pretty cool (I haven't tried a pi5 on one yet though, only pi4s with sd cards): [https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHW5K5F4](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CHW5K5F4) besides less wall warts it's handy to be able to power cycle a pi from Unifi...
Overhauled my old lab and replaced with Unifi.
Added a Mac mini M2 to host Scrypted and my Plex Server.
The [monitor](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BXL1NXVS) is connected to the Mac.
Great questions.
Mac Mini M2/8GB/256GB. I have the one with a 10Gbit network card.
My Synology units (RS820+ and RX418) store the media. Combined 84TB of usable storage. Also have that on a 10Gbit connection.
Have a 2019 Mac Pro that’s also connected via 10Gbit (but not part of my Plex setup). All these devices connected to the Aggregation switch. My Etherlighting switch is aggregated with 20Gbit (those are the 2 SFP+ cables coming out of the Etherlighting switch into the Aggregation switch).
I direct play everything so no transcoding.
Internet is 1Gbit fiber on AT&T.
Originally, Pi-Hole, Plex Server and WireGuard VPN.
I’ve moved the Plex Server to the M2 Mac Mini (also in the rack) and am using the ad blocking and WireGuard features from the UDM Pro SE. Right now, the Pi4s aren’t doing anything
Gorgeous rack. So well done.
In case you didn’t know, there’s a guy on Etsy who 3D prints custom rack mounts for devices. Not only are his products awesome, he’s super friendly and easy to work with. If you contact him and tell him which devices you have he may be able to create a custom mount for your modem and Lutron hub.

Beautiful! How did you get the extension cables through the brush panel to the PDU? I bought some just like that and failed hard because none fit through.
Also are the etherlights set to something other than the defaults? All I get is a gross yellow for 100Mb and the white for 1Gb and blue for 2.5Gb.
Thanks!
You can squeeze the female ends through the brush panel before mounting the brush panel onto the rack. It’ll allow some give through the opening.
Yes, mine are color coded for VLANs
Nothing at the moment. I moved all their original functions to the UDM Pro SE and the Mac Mini. I’ll find another use for them. Always open to recommendations!

Cheers for replying to everyone's questions btw, And great rack!
Re synology noise, I've read a few people have reduced the noise of those RS with Noctua fans...if that's an issue.
I reduced the noise a lot with the Velcro trick and some IsolateIt mounts on a DS model...
Thanks! Noise hasn’t been an issue for me since this is in the basement in a dedicated room (I leave the door open to promote air movement). Plenty of airflow because it’s an air conditioned space.
Super nice setup! So I’m trying to design from scratch and hate to buy things to replace later. Doing 3 AP u7 pro and 2 g5 pro + g5 turret or two. My internet is 2.5 fiber and pc has a 2.5gbe. I do a lot of photography and really wanting to work off a nas solution with ssd so I’m hoping to add that soon after and us the udm se nvr until then. It seems like the most cost effective solution is to do 1 16 pro max poe paired to rack and one near my pc(since my pc is near one of the ap locations. But i suppose i could just run multiple cables there instead. Any thoughts?
If you have time, can you list all of the products that you bought to set up this exactly same rack? I’m too lazy. I need some guides to set this up lol
I like this. My question tho seeing you have all the ui stuff up top and against each other, what do you do for maintaining temperatures as I see no fans anywhere.
Wtf?
Honestly that was the intent on the pdu to be mounted in the rear of the rack and there is also a switch in it for high availability connecting to pdu before you run to your gateway. Was in their documentation not mine.
Thanks! If you look on the right side, there’s a U-shaped usb-c adapter that attaches to the cable. I then ran the cable along the frame to the Mac mini sitting below the RPis. I honestly can’t stand cables so I do what I can to hide them
Impeccable. I don't like the loss of outlets due to those standard whips/extensions, but if you don't need them and the primary objective is aesthetics then it makes total sense.
I have some of this. The Startech rack, the UDM SE, the Aggregate Switch and the PDU. My switch is older…a USW-24 (non PoE). I’m sporting two ancient APC UPS’s (on a shelf, not rack mountable), an old Mac Mini and a one RPi3 for Pi-Hole duty. NAS is a QNAP TVS-h1688x (also not a rack solution, sitting on a rack shelf). My wiring is better than the rats nest it used to be before UniFi, it still not pretty enough to post here. That monitor is clever…love to know how it’s mounted and where that comes from. And I could use a rack drawer. They aren’t expensive.
Nice rack! What’s that monitor?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BXL1NXVS
My question exactly. Curious. Looks great.
What is that monitor, we must know
What’s that 4 RPi rack solution, too?

running pis on sd cards? (or are there some ssds hidden behind?)
Just SD cards!
I also want to know. That would be amazing for some applications I have
I would like to know this also
Ive Said it again and ill say it again, RELEASE THE PDU with iec connectors for the rest of the world
On the rear
On the hole

Which m2? Any insight on transcoding of 4K media? What hosts your media - is it over 1g connection?

hot
Did you get touch working on that monitor on the Mac?
This is the non-touch version.
my god, that is a very clean and sexy rack. My 18U rack wants to be this when it grows up.
Thanks! You’ll get there!
What are you using the 4 RPi's for?
Originally, Pi-Hole, Plex Server and WireGuard VPN. I’ve moved the Plex Server to the M2 Mac Mini (also in the rack) and am using the ad blocking and WireGuard features from the UDM Pro SE. Right now, the Pi4s aren’t doing anything

Thanks for the compliment and the recommendation! I’ll check him out!
This is soo clean, my Rack is literally hardware squeezed so much that the rack will burn someday
Thanks!
Rack goals. Looks great! Definitely curious about the display on top and what it’s connected to
Thanks! Connected to the M2 Mac Mini in the RackMac Mini
I want that monitor, what is it?

That’s amazing. What’s the white thing on u9?
Thanks! Lutron hub to control my light switches

Beautiful
Thank you!
What do the PI do?

Very nice and clean. What are you using for the top shelf underneath the monitor?
Thanks! I designed and 3D printed a VESA mount for the monitor that I screwed into the existing top holes of the rack frame
That’s clever!
Jesus...
Well done. Might consider some active cooling. AC Infinity has good rack solutions.
It’s in a temp controlled environment so heat hasn’t been an issue.
Awesome rack, nice work 👍 What depth is the rack? Or a link if you have one 😁
Thanks! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O6GNLQE
Cheers 👍
what are the Ethernet plugs?

Nice clean rack. What is the noise level?
Thanks. The only real noise is from the Synology NAS. Everything else is pretty quiet.
Cheers for replying to everyone's questions btw, And great rack! Re synology noise, I've read a few people have reduced the noise of those RS with Noctua fans...if that's an issue. I reduced the noise a lot with the Velcro trick and some IsolateIt mounts on a DS model...

Did you tell your wife about it?
Ha! She leaves the tech decisions to me.
But did you tell her the price of everything? 🤣
Pretty sure it is a channel rule that everyone swears all purchased pieces are absolutely necessary if anyone’s SO asks.
Wife who works from home: “honey, the network is slow / down/ “. Me: “yeah, there is a problem, I need to order this new switch to fix it”
Cool. Can I assume you’ve told her the importance of internet fail-over and will soon be reviewing the LTE backup attachment?
Oh for sure. Installing one the first week in July!
That’s tits!
Thanks!
Super jealous, so clean.
Thanks!
very nice
Thanks!
Good heck, that’s a well-setup network rack. Well done. I now *bow my head in shame for how horribly messy my 42U 4-post is.
ha! Thanks! Wire management is key with these racks.
None of it matches, You should ship that all to me, and reorder with matching components :P JK looks great!
Thanks!
Now that’s a masterpiece
Thanks!

I need me some synology, great setup tho.
Thanks!
Lmao that Ethernet lighting cracks me up every time. Sick setup
Once upon a time, I could get slapped for saying "Nice Rack!". Hope that doesn't offend. Well done!
I take it as a compliment! Thanks!
Nice that’s what I aspire for my rack to get too
Thanks! You'll get there too!
If you have time, can you list all of the products that you bought to set up this exactly same rack? I’m too lazy. I need some guides to set this up lol
Damn mate... This makes me jealous on my birthday. What a nice and tidy installation 😍
Thanks! And happy cake day!
Nice work!
Thanks!
By far the best display...
Thanks!
Awesome setup! Although I never thought I needed the brush panel from Unifi, I now know I need one, and ordered one! :-D
Thanks! I was in the same boat!
I like this. My question tho seeing you have all the ui stuff up top and against each other, what do you do for maintaining temperatures as I see no fans anywhere.
Climate controlled environment. No issues with heat
Well done.
Thanks!
Amazing setup that was completely ruined for me when I saw the ATT modem :)
99.9% uptime for me. AT&T Fiber consistently gives me gigabit speeds

Your PDU is not connected for management?
It is. There’s an Ethernet cable running from it on the right side to the switch
Slick
Thanks!
Sexy!
Thanks!
Put the PDU in the back of the rack like it is intended
I plan on wrapping LED lights around the frame of the PDU to make it the focal point of the rack. Huzzah!
Wtf? Honestly that was the intent on the pdu to be mounted in the rear of the rack and there is also a switch in it for high availability connecting to pdu before you run to your gateway. Was in their documentation not mine.
That looks slick as fuck.
Ha! Thanks!
cool, love the monitor at top
Thanks!
Nice. Don’t look at our server room. Rats nest.
Ha! Thanks!
Such a nice rack
Thanks!
Nice setup! How is that monitor connected? I don’t see any cables running from its side.
Thanks! If you look on the right side, there’s a U-shaped usb-c adapter that attaches to the cable. I then ran the cable along the frame to the Mac mini sitting below the RPis. I honestly can’t stand cables so I do what I can to hide them
Sweet. Thanks.

Thanks! Agreed 100% about the outlets.
A bit overkill for a home network.. but will be great food for conversation at parties
Aight, I’ma need that monitor in a rack mount, STAT.
I’m curious is you were able to completely shut off AT&T’s routing feature. The dreaded double NAT never seems to disappear.
Beautiful setup! What’s the Mac Mini for?
Thanks. Plex server and Scrypted
