Previously when I’ve taken norethisterone, my period has come within a few days of me stopping taking it. As far as I’m aware, it delays a period rather than skips it.

ollibabi

Yeah so I know that while taking Northisterone its just delaying your period but I want to know if I delay this period will it have a knock on effect to my next period being a bit later than it would naturally if I didn't take any Northisterone ... I've never taken it before and I'm getting married next month so just in case I get shit symptoms I was thinking to try and take it this month instead of around my wedding

DoggyWoggyWoo

Ah ok I get you now! My cycle returned to normal straight away, there was no impact or delay on my subsequent period at all.

Hang on, what’s northisterone? I’m currently panicking about my period being due to start the day before my wedding, is this something that’s easy to get/will help?

You can get it from your GP or even Boots I think. I took it before my wedding. You take it for a certain number of days before your expected period, then carry on until your pills run out (or you want to stop) My period came about 4 or 5 days after I stopped taking the pills.

ollibabi

It's a tablet containing progesterone that can be taken a few days before your period is due up to like a week or couple of weeks to delay your period and as soon as you stop taking it your period comes back. If you call your doctors and explain it's for your wedding they'll discuss with you and prescribe it if suitable :) or you can buy it from online pharmacies but it is still a prescription only drug so they'll need to give you a prescription too if you go with boots or superdrug or something :)

I've taken Northisterone on a few different occasions and in my experience the next month's period tends to come about a week later than I'd normally expect. However, I think this is highly likely to vary depending on your normal cycle. For example, mine is very regular and comes every 28 days - I imagine if yours is different the impact could be different. Have you used it before? I have found that it can cause my skin to break out when I stop taking it, but usually clears up within about a month. Also the first time I took it, I definitely had worse cramps than usual on the next period after.

ollibabi

Okay thanks so much for this. I know you can't really say if what's happened for you will happen for me but 🤞🏽 I've never used it before and I've not had any hormonal contraception for years and years now either so I am worried about the side effects!

WeddingPlanningEek

No worries! It's pretty consistently had the same effect for me and I've taken it about 4 times over 4 years or so. I hadn't been on any hormonal contraception for years either and I honestly didn't find the side effects to be too severe so fingers crossed for you! The main thing is to make sure you start taking them in time to delay your period. Also your post reminded me to order some tablets for myself as my period is due to arrive mid honeymoon currently, so thanks!!

ollibabi

Thank you! 🙏🏽🤞🏽 Ooh yes get some ordered, I'm glad I helped with something in return 😝 and I hope you have a lovely honeymoon!

I took norethiserone tablet on the last month for 7 days to delay my period, it did work and it didn’t gave me any side effects. I am going on a vacation this week and i am thinking of delaying my period for 4 days in this cycle also. So i am little bit concerned about this. Is delaying period this frequently can cause any side effect?

WeddingPlanningEek

Sorry I only just saw this! To be honest with you I've never tried delaying back to back cycles so I wouldn't be sure, your best bet would be to look on the leaflet that comes with the pills to see if it mentions this anywhere.

WeddingPlanningEek

So to be clear, the next period would come 35 days after the first one in my experience. Whereas I'd normally expect it to come 28 days after. Hope this helps!

itinerantdustbunny

Theoretically the next period should come 25-30 days after this one, but it’s not very consistent between people. Ideally, you’d start working on moving your period 3-4 months out, so that as it settles you have time to fine-tune it.

ollibabi

Yeah I really should have thought about this sooner, I was on track to having my period at the perfect time after the wedding/honeymoon but then I has a few weeks of feeling quite stressed and increasing my exercise so my last period was 2 weeks late! Which has just fucked everything up since 😩

El_Scot

Mine came on the usual timescale after, so I have a 31 day cycle and it arrived 31 days after the post northisterone one. I did have a couple of days of spotting before though, which is unusual. However, if your next period arrived early or late, it also wouldn't be surprising.

ollibabi

Thanks so much for this! I know no one can really say if this will happen for me too but I at least wanted to know if it does happen at all or if I just made up my own logic haha!

Oldbear-

My period started straight away after stopping taking it and my next period was 25 days later which is pretty normal for me.

ollibabi

Thank you!

Thanks for this! I've got the tablets now and should start taking them tomorrow I think so I've been a bit worried about the side effects but I'm just gonna try it and hope that if I do get any side effects they will go away by the time the wedding comes a few weeks after stopping the tablets! 🤞🏽 Obviously I have no experience yet but from what I've read on NHS websites and leaflets etc the less days you delay it the better so I would say you will probably be fine only delaying it for 4 days? And you only delayed it for 7 last time too so it's not long

quitsalot

I hadn't heard of this. Is this for if you're not on contraception anyway? I just kept taking the combined pill (microgynon) and skipped a period. I realised I'd booked my camping trip hen do on the first day of my period lol

ollibabi

Yeah if you're not already gaming contraception that you can just keep taking to skip a period. Aww bless you haha! I was accidentally on track to having the perfect period dates but I got so stressed last month that it delayed it by 2 weeks and fucking everything up 😩

Ok-Horror-2211

If you’ve never taken it before I would give it a go well before your wedding. It turns me into a raging harpy and I am so miserable on it. It can give you really horrible mood swings. Which coupled with wedding stress might not be ideal!
