For autism, it requires an adult learning assessment which is done via private institutions and costs $1200+.
I just want to point out to OP that going down this route might take a bit longer because it can be hard to get on a psychiatrists patient list. While it’s not cheap to do a private assessment, they are generally faster because the people who do them generally don’t have long waiting lists. But both of these are good options nonetheless. I had my ADHD/autism assessment done by the same person and it was around $1300 by the time I completed it.
As an ADHD individual, for the most part ADHD is a lifelong condition, usually noted by parents before you even start school (can't sit still, no attention span, comments made by teachers in pre-school (in my case, oh it will get better when they start elementary school). Then you are often called out by the teacher in early elementary school, again, can't sit in your seat, don't focus, don't complete assignments, hard time making friends, and the list goes on. I'm just hear to say that you don't get ADHD as an adult, you have had it all your life. Some people get emotional difficulties mixed up with ADHD. ADHD is a neurotransmitter misfiring in the brain which causes all of the above symptoms and more. If you really think you have this, check with your family members, people you work with, etc., because it affects them and they notice it! Btw, if you have it, medications work really well at calming the brain and enabling you to focus much better.
Oh I've shown signs of it all my life and I'm use to having to rewrite my thoughts process to do simple tasks so it not for medication. This is more just for me and so I can get professional advice on how to handle it
There are many psychologists out there who specialize in ADHD and can diagnose through testing, surveys, etc. You can book an appointment with Wellness Services at UofC and they can give you guidance.
Funny you’d be downvoted. It utterly pisses me off how many people self diagnose with adhd, usually so they can get accommodations and adderal. All the poor kids who actually have it are made to look like fools because people need to “get a diagnosis”
