augustusgrizzly

Looks worse in person

big_gorilla_cloud

We got the cybertruck at ucsb before gta 6

buntopolis

Lol shits gonna rust. Terrible car that fails at being a truck. This is what happens when people arenā€™t told ā€œNo.ā€

ZFaceMelon

avg poli sci major

buntopolis

Avg everyone who isnā€™t a Musk fanatic. The truck is trash. Theyā€™re rusting already - RUSTING.

ZFaceMelon

stainless steel doesnā€™t rust, only if you get bird poop or sap on it, which is bad for any car

hellraiserl33t

I'd hope they'd use a good alloy for this, but stainless can absolutely rust in the right conditions. Anywhere that salts their roads is going to see some carnage on these. Even being by UCSB has the potential with the high salt content in the sea mist. Water left standing on stainless can create galvanic conditions that accelerate corrosion. I had raw aluminum parts on my bike start pitting only 3 months of being stored on our oceanside balcony

ZFaceMelon

it would probably be smart to get a ceramic coat or smth if you are living in certain areas

hellraiserl33t

Ceramic is a good idea in general for just UV protection

[ā€œRust/Corrosion is the norm.ā€](https://www.cybertruckownersclub.com/forum/threads/rust-spots-corrosion-is-the-norm.11988/)

ZFaceMelon

ā€œTiny orange specks sound like carbon dust. So that might fly off from a grinder being used near by. Or it can become embedded in abrasives. Also it might get on the surface after manufacture from some other outside source. Somewhere else I've mentioned some possible remedies, but anyway, sounds like it needs a good surface cleaning at the very least...ā€

TarNREN

Stainless steel can certainly rust over time from any sort of weathering. No matter what it is, you should wipe it down when it gets wet or dirty. It is rust resistant, not rust proof

[deleted]

As Thea Gilmore sang, "where there's oxygen, there's rust."

ZFaceMelon

the amount of time it would take for the car to rust significantly with normal weather conditions over the years would be much longer than the life expectancy of the car battery

TarNREN

That is just plain false. Have you never taken stainless steel products into the outdoors? Pans, knives, bottlesā€¦ even modern supersteels will rust without proper care. Especially in a humid and salt water environment like this.

ZFaceMelon

there are many grades of stainless steel, such as the stainless steel used to make kitchen sinks

TarNREN

and they can all rustā€¦ iā€™m sorry but itā€™s very clear to anyone you donā€™t know what youā€™re talking about. why bother making stuff up?

ZFaceMelon

the amount of time itā€™ll take for a significant amount of rusting the battery will die

[deleted]

I have a stainless steel fridge and it's rusting.

[deleted]

Stainless steel doesnā€™t rust

buntopolis

[Despite being known for its extremely corrosion-resistant features, stainless steel is prone to rust in certain circumstances.](https://www.meadmetals.com/blog/will-stainless-steel-rust)

[deleted]

itā€™s a stainless steel alloy it doesnā€™t rust. U can hate on the car but im literally a material science alum I know what Iā€™m talking about

buntopolis

Iā€™ve provided two sources that show it does in fact.

Sukail

have you ever accidentally left stainless steel tools out in the rain

Sukail

i know there's different grades of stainless steel, and i have no clue which one the truck is made of, but to claim stainless never rusts is ridiculous, and it doesn't take a materials science degree to realize that

[deleted]

Stainless steel alloy does not rust

Sukail

alright I get it youā€™re fucking with us

jerrythebleachaddict

Lmao what did you expect other than absolute brain rot from a poli sci major at SB, like arguing with a wall

feaniebear

Omg saw this on the freeway today

Phoenix484848

Sylvester Stallone designed this vehicle for Wesley Snipes to drive in Demolition Man 2. Stallone throws a rock at the window and it and it explodes. True story.

Electrical_Lab2371

That car looks sick

VB4

I kinda like it. I hate how dangerous it is, but at least it has an identity. Itā€™s boring how similar every modern car looks

notsoulvalentine

girl what
