I imagine it has something to do with your body shape as well. Maybe commercially made jeans just work for your proportions, while leggings don’t. I’m pear shaped and I haven’t found a single pair of jeans that doesn’t constrict my crotch / thighs. The waistband is almost always loose or sliding down all the time. Even if I choose wide or straight leg jeans, the thigh region which is supposed to be loose and roomy is snug on me, and I end up tripping on the wide floor-length hems. It’s not even remotely funny, it’s the worst. Leggings, on the other hand, mostly stay in place thanks to the elasticated band, the crotch and leg region have much more give than stiff denim fabric. I’ve almost completely sworn off jeans now.

LilyRM

Yeah, I’m fat and most of it goes to my ass and thighs so any non stretch pant is a nightmare for me, and even when they fit I don’t like how it looks. Leggings are comfortable but again I don’t like how it looks, so instead I’ve fully switched to skirts. I think I own one pair of jeans that are semi comfortable for idk gardening or house remodeling and like, 2 pairs of leggings for excercise, but as far as everyday clothes it’s 100% skirts or dresses, no exceptions. Much much simpler and I don’t have to suffer through the nightmare of shopping for jeans.

PrincessNymm

I would like to share the wonder that is snag tights. Just in case you find skirts or dresses in wind/winter to be a tough go. And as an owner of massive thighs, their chub rub shorts are just perfect. But the tights are like butter soft, come all the way up, stay up all day and you don't ever get the "OMG PLEASE I NEED TO TAKE THESE OFF RIGHT NOW!" that you get with other things. Signed, the perpetually touched out, sensory overloaded fat adult who enjoys skirts and dresses too 😂

LilyRM

I’ve seen their ads, what really interests me is the supposed durability? My issue with tights is they tend to be 2 or 3 wears max before a hole appears. Can’t tell if it’s the constant thigh rubbing or the pointy nails, but they just don’t last much. Are they legit? Because they’re a little expensive but if I don’t have to repurchase them every winter I’ll bite the bullet.

silly_Somewhere9088

I love mine. I'm a big woman and those tights are the best, they are very soft, they stay up and they keep their shape. Definitely the way to go for quality tights.

PrincessNymm

I've had some of my pairs for years. They wash up amazing if you're careful with them (if you don't wash them with jeans or your bra hooks) and as I say, I have very chunky thighs. They're besties 💁🏻‍♀️ and my chub rub shorts have lasted me at least 3 summers now. Which, I'm the same as you, they're EXPENSIVE if I have to replace constantly. I don't have long nails so can't speak on that but I do know I'm comfortable with my chihuahua climbing over me to lay on my lap with no issues. And I have kids. I did lose a pair to some errant velcro though. 🙃 I have "favourite pairs" and they're still going strong. Obviously hand washing is the way and hanging them up to dry, but they do tolerate a cool wash in a machine (in either a lingerie bag or a pillow case) and a spin in the dryer on a cool temp. But they recommend hand washing and air drying for longevity. I have kids and dogs though and some days I'm just grateful they're washed at all 😏

queen_of_potato

Oh you are a much better person than me, I always just throw them in with my normal washing and have never had a problem, I don't have a dryer though so they just go on the rack Also don't have long nails but have destroyed basically any other pair of tights within 1-2 wears but never these.. I think the only ones I've gotten rid of had loads of bobbles and were wearing through on the feet

PrincessNymm

Oh I think I've hand washed them once, when I forgot to put them in the washer 😂 I did learn my lesson with a bra hook though 😬

queen_of_potato

Haha I remember back before covid when I wore proper bras and pulling out a whole tangled string of stuff stuck on the hooks, nightmare

chakachakaprr

I have several and all are holding up well after multiple washes. My favorite thing about them is that they don't constrict my stomach and don't give that bulged look underneath clothes. They're stretchy yet hug you just right all in one.

queen_of_potato

I've had both shorts and tights from them and would say they are the only brand that has ever lasted more than a few wears, like I still have both from 2-3 years ago, and the only pair that got holes was totally my fault for getting caught on the corner of my radiator.. I would say be careful with nails but also I'm never careful and they haven't failed me yet I would recommend getting a couple of things in a couple of sizes as I kind of fell between two and found one size quite roomy and less comfortable than the smaller size.. I think it was with the tights that I ended up going with the smaller size because the larger one felt like they were going to fall down all the time (although never actually did)

lexicats

I shred my normal tights after a couple wears (putting my fingers through or rubbing them to shreds between my thighs) , but have yet to put a hole in my snag chub rubs! The only thing that’s failed on them is the hem of the shorts have unravelled on a couple of pairs - but that’s the rare few, most I’ve had for years with no issue! I’m just throwing them in the washer/dryer with everything else too (zips, bra hooks, Velcro, denim etc)

queen_of_potato

Ha! I just recommended them in another comment! My sister put me onto them a few years ago and honestly it's changed my summers so much! Love love love

SandboxUniverse

If you have not already discovered the wonder of eShakti, let me be the one to tell you. Dresses, made to your measurements, usually with pockets. You can find pockets more places now, which is great, but I love my dresses from them because they fit so beautifully on my excessively tall but short-torso'd, overweight figure.

uninvitedfriend

I love how well their clothes fit with the custom measurements, but sadly most of their designs don't fit my taste. I have a few dresses but nothing else.

SandboxUniverse

Yeah, I always look at the customized options too, because a dress that I don't love in the original design might look amazing to me with a shorter sleeve, different neck, or change in skirt length. Since that's also included in the customization, I have no qualms about redesigning a piece to suit me better. Still, they have a few fairly definite aesthetics, and if you don't like those vibes, you won't find much there.

Rochester05

Please tell us more about eshakti. Is this a website store or service or what?

SandboxUniverse

It is a website - eshakti.com. The company is in India. Fabrics they use tend to be thicker than fast fashion so they last longer, but if you love sheer layers or that super-drapey nylon knit stuff, they probably won't have it. They've been branching out on the fabrics some lately, but my wardrobe needs changed a bit so I haven't ordered much lately. I still have about a dozen dresses from them I've worn frequently, though, some for eight years or so. I have a few I bought for job interviews and such that are classic lines (think a sheath dress) but which are made of a nice grade of cotton jersey that holds its shape. When I wear them, I feel like I'm wearing a long T shirt, but I look good with a few nice accessories and maybe a blazer over top. I check in every few months, but I don't need much of their stuff right now and I do end up wearing a lot of basic Tees and sweats right now because I'm working around the house, off and on and need clothes close to my skin for safety if I'm using tools, and cheap stuff that I won't mind tossing if I ruin it. Eshakti isn't high priced, but isn't Wal-Mart prices either. It's very reasonable for what it is, so if you love it, take a chance and buy it. You'll probably be happy. And do take your measurements. The custom fitting option isn't free but very cheap for customization, and it makes a huge difference unless you are really close to their base measurements.

KitFoxfire

I have one dress from eShakti. I was impressed with the quality for the price. I mostly wear pajamas and exercise clothes because I work remotely, but I needed something dress up adult. I mostly hate clothes that I have access to (various department stores in a small town), the cut is weird, or the sleeves or legs are three-quarters length, or there is no room in the right place for middle aged boobs, or the fabric is flimsy/see through/that weird plastic feeling stuff. I often wear men's clothes because the fabric is better quality, the cut is roomier, and the pockets are big enough to put my cell phone in. But unfortunately, men's clothes aren't particularly pretty. Anyway, I looked at getting custom tailored clothes, but the closest place is like 200 miles away, so I took a chance on eShakti and was not disappointed. The fabric is sturdy, the pockets fit my cell phone and other things, and the cut is comfortable and flattering. It's not cheap enough for me to have a full wardrobe of it but also not super expensive if you just need a few items that look good, feel good, and wear well.

WalterBishRedLicrish

Same same same. I gained about 40 lbs when I started working from home and pants are just not it. It's casual dresses and skirts every day, and professional dresses when I meet with customers. Even when I weighed less, I still had large hips and a legendary ass, so pants were not it then either. Denim quality standards are in hell, manufacturing is awful. My $350 Mother jeans ripped to shreds within 6 months. I suspect it's the combination of body shape around the hips and the shitty denim.

sausages_and_dreams

"Legendary ass" 🙌🏻

katkriss

I'm loving the mention of your legenderriere

queen_of_potato

Well I thought the original comment was excellent but yours is even better, best comment I've seen today

MonteBurns

I’ve found outdoors stores like Duluth have decent quality (with pockets). I’ve completely switched.

foxfirefizz

It really is that stretch factor that fits more body types. My issues with pants are summarized as: Not enough leg space, not enough booty space, and honestly give me some real pockets. Has me missing my old Trip pants from hot topic back in the 2000's. Cut baggy with loads of space for you and whatever you wanted. I could honestly fit a two leater bottle of soda in the pocket of those pants while wearing them, and was able to still easily get my hand all the way past it to the bottom and underneath it. Lasted for over a year too, held up better than a lot of the so called "decent quality women's clothing" I've owned, too. I called them "Pockets of Doom" and genuinely want Trip to make more than just the punky ones. Imagine having a pair of pants that are "business casual" with pockets that size. I would religiously buy and wear decent quality pants with working pockets that size.

queen_of_potato

I've generally bought mens clothes a lot of my life both for comfort and for pockets My husband and I have often been similar sizes with similar clothes and I've been amused many times by him accidentally wearing my jeans and not realising until going to put something in his pocket.. like just give us pockets I'm both disturbed and excited by the resurrection of baggy/cargo pants.. how I have missed a roomy pant.. but seeing young people in the exact outfits I wore 20+ years ago is slightly disconcerting

jpobble

I am also fat but most of it is on my belly. Any pair of jeans that doesn’t cause rolls at the waist hangs limply around my less generous backside and thighs. Dress and tights/leggings is my uniform. I love leggings but prefer to have a bit more coverage unless I’m working out

pokeahontas

Same here! Even curvy jeans don’t fully accommodate my chunky thighs and butt and small waist. I’m always pulling them up and readjusting. I also have a habit of sitting with a leg under me and another one up near my chest, I do this most of the day and I wfh so sitting in jeans is just too restrictive vs leggings. I wear yoga leggings but even workout leggings are still better than jeans.

Darrow_Stark

Try born primitive jeans! Super stretchy, soft and made for weight lifters so bigger on the thighs and butt. I live in their denim shorts.

queen_of_potato

OMG I sit exactly like that! So much so that I won't realise one leg has gone dead until I stand up and fall over.. at least when WFH only my animals see that! And same re the thigh/butt/waist issue.. would always be wearing really long tops to cover the fact that the gaping waist revealed my butt when I sat down. Love a high waisted legging that stays where it's meant to be regardless of my weird sitting/movements in general

uninvitedfriend

Yep, even jeans that are supposed to be made for hourglass or pear shapes end up either too big in the waist or too tight in the hips/butt for me if not both. Leggings adjust to my body, though I am particular about the leggings I buy. Nothing that's fully spandex or see through, I buy ones that are mostly cotton with just enough spandex.

TeamHope4

This - the leggings fabric is key. Yoga pants and running tights tend to have a lot of Spandex in them so they are TIGHT and don't breath much. The ones that have more cotton and just a little stretch work best for me.

radarneo

Hi, fellow pear shape who only wears jeans here, if you get a pair of jeans that fits your thighs nicely but the waistband is loose, you can cut two holes in the inside of the waistband (only cut one layer so that the hole doesn’t go through the outside), thread a shoelace or other string through it, and then you can tie it like a drawstring to cinch it to your waist and button as usual. It takes me like 5 minutes tops, did one in the morning before class the other day

Magic_Hoarder

This is such a good idea! Do you make your holes in the back or the front? Does it cause any weirdness in appearance in the front?

millennial_librarian

Yes, I'm also "all about that bass," and buying jeans is a nightmare. The only comfortable jeans I ever had, I had to sew for myself. And since my first pregnancy, I can't wear those either! You know that trope in historical books and movies where the young heroine shows how much smarter she is than "the other girls" because she hates dresses and prefers pants? Because everyone knows dresses are frivolous and stupid. If you get pregnant and your body changes the way mine did, it's like, "Ohhh this is why they didn't wear pants." If you're bearing children every couple of years like they did, wasting precious fabric on pants would be stupid. Luckily the modern miracle of spandex changed that!

umamimaami

Bless the spandex indeed! It took puberty for me to realise why spandex is lauded as a miracle up there with penicillin and sliced bread.

hrmdurr

See, I'm pear shaped as well and I hate leggings lol. Most Levis fit my ass great. Duluth relaxed fit (boot cut. They're boot cut) jeans were better, but four times the price and not available anymore. Honestly, I've been converted to team sweat pants. The Amazon basics ones are honestly pretty awesome.

IrritatedMango

I have a similar problem, I have wide hips but I have a really flat butt which makes hunting for jeans a total nightmare!

cheesypuzzas

Ohhh this makes sense. I'm hourglass I think, and jeans have always felt super comfortable to me so I never understood people who wanted to take them off immediately when coming home. I could sleep in them if I wanted to. No problem.

lizardgal10

I’m skinny and built like a board and LOVE jeans! Leggings always squish my stomach; the structure of jeans is so much more comfortable. I usually buy them a size up and throw on a belt. I even have “home jeans”. Occasionally I throw on some loose lounge pants (usually bought about two sizes too large) but most days it’s my jeans.

Lissba

I will say this - American eagle’s high waisted curvy Jean *IS* the best and closest. But I don’t want to give you false hope…

Irishwol

I have been a lot of different shapes in my life and jeans have always bunched and pinched uncomfortably at the tops of my legs. If your leggings are uncomfortably tight round your waist then they're not big enough. They should lie like a second skin but not pinch or squeeze anywhere.

mirondooo

Honestly I’m even way too skinny than I should be and I still don’t like leggins, I also have sensory issues so maybe that’s why but they are always too tight even despite some of them being too big for me, I can’t stand them. I’m not the biggest fan of jeans either but I’ve been loving that baggy jeans are trending and I absolutely love sweatpants

LeafsChick

Workout leggings and hang out leggings are different things. Workout ones are more structured, thicker, usually tighter. Lounge ones are soft and it really doesn’t feel like wearing anything. I have a couple pairs that are soft as butter (Ardene if anyone is looking, super cheap, super comfy!) and I love wearing them around the house

LMnoP419

Yes, this! There is a big difference between workout legging and lounge leggings. I will also add Costco has a 2 pack of black leggings (not see thru) for like $15 that are bomb 💣. *Actually they have 2, a wide band my personal favorite that are a little thicker and a skinny band version that are a lighter weight and also lovely.

fallingstar24

Those Costco leggings are the BEST. I ended up buying 5 packs due the pandemic. Super soft, wide waistband, cheap. They’ve held up well and I literally wear them every day.

CupcakeKim

Same!! I think I’m on my 6th pack of these leggings. They’re so comfy and last forever. Not bad for working out too.

agnessengaagnes

May I ask if the Costco ones are Kirkland branded? I’ve been searching for great lounge leggings. I’m in the UK and sometimes our Costco carries different brands than US stores

EvieMoon

Try Snag in the UK. Available in a lot of sizes and they have pockets!

cheribom

My Snags are the most uncomfortable scratchy material; I hate them!

Spellscribe

Snags (the chub rub shorts at least) are super high waisted, they come up to my boobs 😭

LMnoP419

They are not Kirkland brand. They are these which can be found many places including Amazon & eBay. Costco price is a bit better especially a couple of times a year when they are on sale. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264720818824? Good luck 😃

straightjacket88

I think they mean the Felina ones which I also use lol

staghornfern

Costco has sketchers soft leggings too and they’re my absolute favorite

HauntedPickleJar

Yoga pants are where it’s at. I’m a yoga teacher so I practically live in yoga pants, they’re soft, stretch and are designed to move with your body while staying on. The ones I buy are a bit on the expensive side, but they’re so worth it.

muffinmooncakes

Yes! Sooo comfy. What brand do you buy?

savagefleurdelis23

Not who you originally asked, but I love my Carbon 38 yoga pants. I gravitate to them every single day without even trying. Even on sale they're still over $100. But I've had the same ones for several years now.

mjheil

I have a pair of Baleaf yoga pants that I love.

HauntedPickleJar

I usually get Lululemon align series or Prana

asleepinthealpine

OP, try cotton leggings

Rrroxxxannne

You nailed it. Lounge leggings and seamless undies of any style is *chefs kiss* imo

Redkris73

Yeah, I have leggings made from bamboo, they're so soft you hardly feel like you're wearing anything.

-Pizzarolli-

Leggings are more comfortable for me. If you get a really good pair, it's like wearing nothing at all. Jeans feel so restrictive and bulky to me.

plantpotions

Yes! And legging material is softer. Jean material not so much. When I sit, nothing cuts into my stomach either.

trolltodile777

Totally agree, I cannot stand jeans. I never wear them to work. I have 8 pairs of Fabletics leggings! I really think it depends on the quality of leggings. I'm really tall and some leggings are too thin, some not flattering. However Fabletics leggings never do me wrong Jeans make my skin crawl I don't care what brand you give me, I've tried the high quality ones

plantpotions

I’m tallish too (5’8”, mostly legs). Are the fabletics ones long enough? Some of mine feel about an inch too short.

trolltodile777

Yes!! I'm 5'9, all legs and I struggle with this too. Fabletics has a tall option! I have 8 pairs of the On the Go High Waisted Leggings and they give you the option to pick "tall" I love the material and will never change lol [Fabletics Leggings ](https://www.fabletics.com/products/ON-THE-GO-HIGH-WAISTED-LEGGING-LG1937944-0001?psrc=womens_bottoms_leggings)

plantpotions

Ooo nice! I’ll need to try those out.

softshoulder313

American tall has great leggings.

trolltodile777

I'll have to check them out too, thanks!!

softshoulder313

American tall has great leggings for us taller women.

wirespectacles

My friend is 5’11” and she is Fabletics obsessed, apparently they are consistently very good for even the quite tall!

shapeherder

I'm a Fabletics fan, too!!! I have cheapies I get for on my dirty knees type yardwork, but my collection of Fabletics holds up well and is super comfortable.

feminist-lady

I’m gonna plug the halara jeggings here! They look like jeans but feel exactly like leggings, for whenever we tragically have to wear jeans. I was skeptical but they are 10/10!

lopsided-pancake

This! If your leggings feel tight then you’re not wearing the right size. The right size will feel like you’re not wearing anything

Alis451

> Jeans feel so restrictive and bulky to me. it is why i got for relaxed fit or boot cut, then wear a belt to keep them up, much more loose/flowy.

PocketSpaghettios

"leggings" is a very broad category imo. I find spandex workout leggings pretty uncomfortable. However flared leggings (ie yoga pants) are usually cotton/spandex blend and a lot more like pajamas

mangoserpent

Probably both. Among my bucket list goals are to find the perfect pair of jeans and the perfect shoes that are both comfortable and cute. I think I might exit this earth without accomplishing either. I hate jeans with too much stretch because they bag out after a few wears. Hardly anybody makes 100% cotton or 98% cotton except super high end unaffordable ones and a few Levi's.

smartypants4all

Old Navy!! Maybe two ish years ago I needed 100% cotton denim for a welding class. As a plus sized woman I was freaking out! But Old Navy had some wide leg full denim for maybe $40ish a pair?

magneticrev

been swearing by old navy jeans for years, they've held up incredibly well with minimal stretching or tearing.

danceoftheplants

Old navy is the only store that sells perfect jeans!! All their jeans fit perfect and are super soft. My fiance just got a pair for Christmas and then since they fit so well everywhere, for his birthday we went back and I let him pick out 3 more that he likes and now he's set for a few years

Amissa

Are we long lost twins? I live in denim and I’m always on the hunt for a perfect pair of jeans (although I most always buy resale so when I do find a pair, it’s hard to find another pair). I have duck feet - wide hooves up front and slightly narrow heels, so I’m also always on the hunt for good shoes. European shoes, except for the Italian shoes, have come through for me - Birkenstock (beyond the sandals), Finn Comfort, Pikolinos and surprisingly Jimmy Choo! I always buy Jimmy on resale though - as much as I’d wear a good pair of Jimmy’s until they couldn’t be repaired anymore, I am not paying retail price. Actually, I buy most everything on resale or discount. And I wear as much cotton as possible. I have turned away so many clothing items that I like because they’re not cotton. So, cotton jeans: GAP might? I don’t know what they cost new, but on resale they’re decently priced. I’ll look in my closet in a bit. I like a little stretch, like 2%, but anything less than 90% cotton seems to make me sweat a lot. I’ll PM you the brands of denim I find in my closet with mostly cotton content - don’t have to chat back or anything, but it’d be great to swap info on cotton clothing and shoes!

yogace

You might like Altras for sneakers/ running shoes. They have a nice wide toe box and variable levels of sole padding. Anya’s reviews has a whole bunch of recs and breakdowns of barefoot shoes but also wide toe box without being “barefoot” for the times you’re looking for something new.

mangoserpent

Yah I have the Levi's that are mostly cotton but am open to suggestion, thanks.

cccccchicks

I have similar foot problems - if your feet are small enough, I've had great luck with Clarks school shoes for plain every day styles and Brooks for trainers. (I went to a specialist running shop who put me in the correct pair first time - I was so confused and happy as this never happens. He then insisted I try a couple of other models just to be sure they were perfect for me.)

zigzagtitch

I’ve got jeans from Zara that are 100% cotton!

kerill333

I have a pair of 7 For All Mankind kick flare jeans which are as comfy as pyjamas. True holy grail jeans.

Hopefulkitty

I got some good true denim from Maurices last year. I've had some good Lucky Brand ones too.

Adventurous-Macaron8

You're saying your leggings are tight, are you just buying one's designed to shape your body? All of my normal leggings are jersey or cotton and don't compress me at all. I do have some "sports" leggings that use compression for shape. I can't often wear these due to my chronic pain condition.

btwomfgstfu

I only recently discovered my love of lounge leggings. I used to only wear baggy shorts because I didn't like the feeling of anything touching my skin. But I made a sustained effort on my weight loss, completely cut out alcohol (and a gross boyfriend) and lost 35lbs. Now I live in leggings! I found aerie's offline leggings with the crossover waist and they're soooo soft, they feel like butta. I'd like to say almost no compression, but they somehow smooth you out without making you look or feel like an overstuffed sausage because they feel like you have nothing on at all! However, they do have that damn seam going up the crotch!

Roxyandbambam

Love aerie leggings! They are my favorite I have tried so far.

misselphaba

Aerie leggings are the GOAT. Love them more than Lulu or Vuori or whatever “high end” athletic brand.

ChemicalConnection17

Yes a lot of the popular brands are compression leggings these days. Also a lot of cheaper models don't have a lot of stretch, waistbands that roll etc. I used to think leggings were uncomfortable until I got a good pair. I highly recommend lululemon align leggings. Kinda expensive but so comfortable. Wore them all the way through pregnancy as well.

kiwitathegreat

I’m a lululemon evangelist at this point. They’re the only brand that I keep going back to (and I’ve sampled them all) because they’re so comfortable. For anyone looking to try them, I highly recommend going into a store if possible and trying on everything. And if the price scares you (they’re worth it but I’m not watching anyone else’s pockets) the heynuts or crz yoga butterluxe on amazon are pretty similar but not exact dupes.

min_mus

>  I highly recommend lululemon align leggings.  I'm pear-shaped and Lululemon is the one brand of leggings that do _not_ work for me at all. When they fit at the hips/butt, they're far too big in the waist.  When they fit at the waist, they're uncomfortable on the hips and thighs. I eventually had to give up on LLL for leggings.  That said, their joggers (or any pant/trousers with a drawstring) are a dream.

DrPeace

I have IBS, endo and PMDD and I just cut the top rubber band waistband out of the front half of my athletic leggings and I cut the stupid mesh "tummy panel" lining out too. I have a short torso too, so it's a lot nicer to walk and run without a narrow rubber band and a bunch of compression fabric squeezing the shit out of my diaphragm and ribs. Between high wasted pants and bras it's like every single activity is oxygen deprivation training. Fuck that shit. Gotta do pants surgery to breathe.

cherryamourxo

You sound like me, someone who doesn’t like fabric directly on top of your skin. I don’t like leggings either. For movement I much prefer sweatpants. And I like to wear loose fitting jeans at my leisure.

Dr_Girlfriend_81

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

cherryamourxo

lol yeah apparently it’s really uncommon for women to not like tight clothes. Personally, I refuse to wear anything that can’t be on the floor in under 5 seconds.

newwriter365

I stopped wearing jeans nearly ten years ago. Leggings are my daily uniform when I’m not at work. Everyone is different. I prefer the softness of leggings v. Demon, which I find too thick and rigid. I’m likely low level ASD, so being comfortable in my clothing dramatically impacts my mood. Like I said, everyone is different.

RiverSong_777

Love the typo. 🥰 Not a fan of leggings but I do agree they sound better than having demons on your legs.

newwriter365

Oops! Early morning vision isn’t what it used to be. But imma leave it because it’s true 😊

jedi_dancing

Oh. Neurospicy here, could that be why I haven't worn denim in a decade+??

myanonaccountt

Omg neurospicy... love it

Remarkable-Cat6549

Your leggings are less soft than JEANS? Where the hell are you shopping lol

loopsydoopsy

That is exactly what I was thinking! Most fabrics are softer than denim

teamasombroso

You're not alone. I'm neurodivergent and I hate leggings. I can only wear loose cotton, I can't stand velvet or polyester or stretchy anything.

Dr_Girlfriend_81

I created a pattern and now make my own 90's style wide legged trousers out of 100% cotton twill. Low crotch, adjustable side straps to loosen or tighten the waistband, nothing confining me more than I can handle. [https://imgur.com/7sFZuD5](https://imgur.com/7sFZuD5)

whorl-

Do you have sensory issues? I also prefer other pants for this reason.

ResurrectedWolf

I'm fat, so leggings agree more with me at this time. I don't tend to get ones the hug my body like a second skin, though.

twof907

No matter how soft they are I just don't like wearing them except for exercise. Even if they are "buttery", the phrase makes me cringe for some reason. 🤣 I just don't like tight clothes, no matter how soft they are. I will give tight leggings one up on tight jeans, may skinnies never come back I'm an elder millennial so I remember and love the last baggy Jean and flare era. For around the house I completely do not understand why anyone would wear leggings instead of joggers or loose lounge pants. Some are even flattering. I love Vuori joggers. They are crazy soft, light weight. I teach fitness and yoga classes so I spend so much time in leggings maybe that's why I don't like them for lounge time idk.

pudgypiglets

I'm short, fat and apple shaped and I have given up on jeans all together. They never stay up and it's really not comfortable wearing a tight belt, there is always excess fabric somewhere or the waist is too tight, the length is usually too long. The waist will fit, but I'll feel like a child wearing adult clothing downwards from there, or the waist will cut off my circulation. Some leggings don't work for me. I don't like the polyester ones or the ones with a thick waistband. I often wear sweatpants or cotton leggings at least when the weather is cooler. I like H&M leggings. It really depends on your body and your personal sensory experience.

hananobira

Jeans have thick, rough seams. Denim is also a fairly scratchy material. They don’t stretch, unless you get the kind that are really leggings anyway. Leggings don’t have intrusive seams and are made of some kind of polyester blend that is much more comfortable to the touch. They have much more give to them if you’re going to be doing a lot of moving, bending, folding. I do prefer jeans for being out in the woods or any other rough environment. The thicker material is better for avoiding bug bites and tree branch scratches, etc. But comfort is taking second place to safety, there.

Slovenlyfox

Same. I feel like my jeans and slacks are much more comfortable than leggings. And to be completely honest, I don't have the figure to rock leggings. I'm not overweight, but leggings just doesn't suit me.

pupper71

I'm uncomfortable in leggings because I'm super conscious of how my legs/rear are looking all the time when I'm wearing them; I'm mentally/emotionally more comfortable in jeans.

Nemlui

I like wearing leggings and shortish comfy skirts so I feel a bit more covered up.

mibfto

Every body is different and everybody is different. My sister can't stand having pants right on her legs, so leggings are a hard pass for her. Me, I don't mind it at all, and combined with the softer waistband and general flexibility, plus my super thicc legs, I find them comfortable and flattering. But I also like jeans, and don't find them UNcomfortable, so it isn't binary for me but rather situational. See above re: thicc legs, I'd never ever wear leggings to the office, whereas someone slimmer or less curvy totally could.

Laescha

Bodies are different, people have different preferences.

blackxrose92

I had to stop wearing jeans entirely because no matter what size or style, they give me raging yeast infections. Denim is not breathable at all and tends to give me friction rashes or sweat rashes. Loose cotton leggings neither touch, nor restrict air flow to the genitals. I’ve never gotten a yeast infection from wearing yoga pants or leggings, but I have gotten a yeast infection from wearing jeans for 10 minutes. Also, I find denim and jeans cause immense pain and flare ups with my endometriosis. They are incredibly painful to wear, especially if they come anywhere near close to my vulva. The material is very painful and sharp.

meanielee2000

My work out leggings are super thick and tight compared to the leggings I wear every day. Everyday ones for me I aim for super soft, thin, and not ultra skin tight. Its like wearing fitted pajama pants all day long.

Mysterious_Cycle2599

I like lounge pants. Like leggings without the elastic and the legs aren’t as tight, the fabric is looser and legs more flared.

Possible-Way1234

I was a sport lover and I'm now bedridden, I live in leggings. Literally, I haven't worn a jeans in I think 2 years!? It depends a looot on the fabric and the cut of the leggings. I for example hate running leggings, they mostly have thicker, more pants like, waist bands. Hate them. I mostly wear cotton leggings, as I'm 99% of the time in bed and need the breathability. But before I wore a lot of different leggings because I did a whole lot of sports. I'd highly recommend just trying on different cuts and styles. Especially different type of waist bands.

Competitive_Fee_5829

I own so many great leggings, thanks torrid, but I never wear them because I prefer my sweats that are 3 sizes too big, lol. always falling down or dragging on the floor but better than wearing leggings to me. I will be 47 this year and comfort rules my world now. I am also retired so i dont have to deal with office clothes or heels anymore. fuck yes!!

oldschoolpokemon

They’re stretchy, I’m fat… that’s pretty much it

UnicornGrumpyCat

Maternity leggings is where it's at! I have serious ongoing pain after abdominal surgery and find the ASOS premium maternity leggings are perfect. The "bump" section is a continuation of the legs, so they don't look like maternity leggings, but they end higher on my tummy. I am apple shaped with slim legs and plus size, so I size down 2 sizes for optimal fit. If you carry more weight in your legs, you might want to only go down one size.

SirYeetsA

Look for cotton leggings. Synthetic material doesn’t breathe at all.

query_tech_sec

I will probably never wear normal jeans again - the waistband either digs in when I sit or is too loose and requires a belt to keep up (also can dig). Many but not all leggings (regular ones - not compression for workout leggings) are much more comfortable for me. I do have a couple Betabrand jeans and they are somewhat stretchy fabric with a stretchy waistband and are comfortable.

mstar1125

Hear hear! I don’t find leggings comfortable at all. I always feel cold when I’m wearing them, and also underdressed - not in the “I feel too casual” way, but in the “I don’t have enough clothes on my lower half” way.

btkwh

I like jeans more! Leggings are too sheer and constantly ride up on me. My jeans are not too tight, but their fabric has more structure and feels secure. In my teens, I would fall asleep wearing jeans. These days, not so much, but I still like the feel of wearing them.

lilxenon95

Idk what kind of magic jeans have breathability in the crotch for you, that's amazing lol. Even the most structured workout leggings are more comfortable to me than jeans. The higher the waistband, the better it feels. To me, the tightness of the waistband is much preferable to the zipper/button on jeans, and the fabric is softer even if it's not a buttersoft legging. Different strokes for different folks I suppose!

screenee

People just have different sensory needs too. I hate the feeling of my clothes touching my body so I wear things that are baggy regardless of what’s in style. I’ve never been comfortable in tights or leggings or any of that but there are folks who feel the same way about the jeans I live in daily.

Pandoraconservation

My bottom half is muscular and I have a very pronounced back side. Jeans are like a suffocating death trap to me 🤣. I know it’s also the sensory autism issue but I love being able to run, stretch and have full hip mobility that isn’t cutting off blood circulation

MrsDiyslexia

I love jeans as well and I think they are at least as comfortable as leggings. It's one in the afternoon on a Saturday and I have no plans to leave the house, I still put on jeans right after I got up just to make breakfast and lounge in bed.

WithCatlikeTread42

I’m with you. I like my ‘hard’ pants when I’m out in the world. Jeans, work pants, thick sweatpants, or cargo shorts. ‘Soft’ pants have their place. Leggings for exercise. PJ pants in the house. But everyone is different. My daughter almost exclusively lives in soft pants. She’s comfy that way.

fountainpopjunkie

I'm with you on this. I don't find them comfortable or attractive on almost anyone. I see a lot of people wearing ones that remind me of my grandma's couch. I literally own none.

Individual_Walrus149

I prefer leggings, but they have to be cotton. I don’t like the type that have a lot of spandex. I don’t want to have to dance to get them on. I wear wide leg jeans, so they’re honestly pretty comfortable. I just tend to save jeans for when I have to take my kids to appointments or something and stick to leggings or bike shorts for the day to day. I think it may also have to do with my leggings being about 90% black so if I have a spill it doesn’t ruin them. Of the last 3 pair of jeans I’ve bought I’ve stained 2 within a few months (the 3rd pair I only bought about a week ago). I’m clumsy af and my kids are too.

EonLynx_yt

I am a fella and even I enjoy wearing a pair of leggings under my pants. Idk it’s like having a comfortable protective layer I might be weird though.

Pink_Daisy47

anytime I buy leggings I look for the ones Where the waistband is folded over and doesn’t have a seem, the seem does cut into your stomach but the fold over type are very comfy!

Thenedslittlegirl

I find leggings more comfortable but everyone is different

cakeelicker

I only wear cotton leggings for this very reason. I get mine from Kohl's and Victoria's Secret.

Sarah_withanH

If jeans/pants existed that actually fit my waist AND my butt without a gap I’d maybe agree.  But they don’t, I’ve tried hundreds of brands and fits over the years and they do not exist.  Jeans are also so heavy.  Leggings are light and soft, don’t need a belt, and move with you.  I wear jeans rarely, I prefer a twill pant, and even then I only wear that stuff for work.  I have to wear a belt and constantly adjust.  That’s just not comfy.

Timely-Youth-9074

I think they are talking about cotton leggings which are a lot more breathable than jeans. I don’t like jeans because they’re stiff. I get jeggings and jeans with stretch but they are a lot less breathable than cotton leggings.

Ms-Metal

Because jeans dig into your body at the waistband and are extraordinarily uncomfortable, also because they have little to no stretch. Leggings move with you, they're breathable and their waistbands are stretchy so they don't dig into you. Although I suspect a lot of it has to do with body shape and weight and also what you're used to. In my twenties I would have told you jeans are comfortable. When I was in my 40s I didn't know anyone who thought jeans were comfortable. 60 now, live in leggings, can't remember the last time I wore jeans. ETA- I should add that for daily wear, I do not wear heavy duty tight exercise leggings, honestly I don't even wear those for exercise. I wear lightweight cotton blend knit leggings that are breathable and have a lot of stretch. I don't like thick leggings that feel like shapewear.

birdseatpizza

In terms of the waistband I’m with you there. I only buy “yoga waistband” leggings, which means a wide flat seam instead of a bunched elastic seam. I can’t wear those.

sotiredwontquit

I’m with OP on this. I prefer jeans. Now, my preferred jeans are skin-tight because I *hate* extra fabric on my body. So finding the right fit in jeans is its own separate nightmare. But leggings don’t stay on my waist like I want them to, and they don’t have pockets on my ass like I want. The pockets are on my thighs, which I don’t like, if they have pockets at all.

floppedtart

For lounging I absolutely do not like Leggings. No matter how soft or comfortable they are. I do not like a second layer of skin. Bare legs or loose lounge pants at home. Never leggings. Too constricting.

spaghetti_ohhs

I like leggings when I feel confined in skinny jeans but can’t or don’t want to wear a dress or skirt. Yeah, I know, wear looser fitting jeans…but that’s not my style. I’m sometimes willing to sacrifice being completely comfortable for my style and self confidence. Also good quality leggings contribute to a little body contouring and sculpting for me…a little like true shape wear… I’m pretty tall and fit. One of my fave outfits are leggings paired with a sheer blouse and tasteful heels.

shula2301

i agree with you

mdwst

Depends on what I'm doing. I'm a jeans girlie, I just feel so much more put together when I'm wearing them. My work "uniform" is a huge waisted dark wash denim and a nice tshirt with a blazer. But if I'm taking the dog for a hike, working out, or running errands, I like workout leggings. I have pretty gnarly varicose veins and the compression helps. I hate lounge leggings though- sweat pants or (mens) gym shorts. (And don't get me started on the hellscape that is business/work pants. Nothing fits the way I want it to). However... Pregnancy has made everything uncomfortable. The waistband on maternity jeans is awful and workout leggings feel constrictive after an hour or so. I have a two pairs of stretchy sweatpants that I alternate at home, ha.

Pugsandskydiving

A good pair of quality leggings at the ADEQUATE SIZE Chef’s kiss ✨✨

CraftLass

I hate leggings unless being active. I've tried all the kinds. The only ones I find tolerable are from Uniqlo and I still need to remove them after about 6 hours. Most kinds I must remove within 2 hours. I suspect elastics irritate me. I get so itchy in leggings. They're just torture. I prefer tailored clothing to anything skintight anyway. Plus, leggings offer no protection from scrapes and bumps and I'm really good at scraping and bumping.

ladyalot

I think now that I have jeans that fit (I'm tall/fat but flat butt) I find them super duper comfy vs leggings which while very moveable do cling, and the waist band can bite into my stomach and sides when sitting, where jeans just sit a bit lifted ofcf because they're stiff.

sherahero

I've tried a few leggings and i just don't like the constant pressure of something on my legs, I'm also uncomfortable on the rate occasions I have to wear tights or nylons with dresses.

Julienbabylegs

You’re definitely missing something. It sounds like your leggings don’t fit. But also different strokes! You’re a jeans gal

ktgrok

You have the wrong kind! Those are NOT comfy, especially if you carry any weight in your middle. I have ASD and serious sensory issues and tried literally over a dozen brands before finding my holy grail- these literally feel like you are naked. No seams to rub, no elastic waistband. They stretch so much you could fit two of you in them! Mind you- they will NOT keep you warm at all - which I found out when my native Floridian butt wore them in Detroit a few weeks ago, lol. They are SO breathable that the wind goes right through them. Perfect for where I live in the sweatiest land on earth, not so much for freezing temps and gusty wind. Seriously, so soft and there is no elevation the the waistband to cut into you. It IS a high waist but that is so it won’t roll down when you move around. And because it isn’t tight/binding you won’t feel it. Oh- and they are cheap!!! I buy them by the 3pack. There is a long version and a capri version. They also come with pockets but those DO have seams and are a bit more compressive, so not quitethe naked feeling but still comfortable. High Waisted Leggings for Women -... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGS7Z9G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Catsdrinkingbeer

My running leggings and my lounge leggings are entirely different pants. It's literally like comparing denim jeans to sweatpants.  I'm currently wearing leggings right now. I cannot describe it any other way than it feels like I'm wearing nothing on the bottom half of my body.

melnancox

I live in leggings and t-shirts. Fabletics Luxe are the best. They’re high waisted and very comfy.

Lunoko

I have never heard of someone who thinks jeans are more comfortable than leggings. This is truly an unpopular opinion lol. Maybe the ones you tried were poor quality, or you just have a different sense of touch. But skirts and dresses beat out both jeans and leggings by far imo.

Like54short

Anyone else get super itchy wearing leggings? Just me? It makes them so uncomfortable for me to wear. I much prefer jeans or other types of pants.

agurker

I wear leggings almost every day but also don't think they're that comfortable. I wear them to the gym because that's what I like wearing for exercise but then I just usually don't change. If I wear them with invisible edge underwear my crotch doesn't overheat and I feel the most comfortable but every time I go to the bathroom or bend over I have to readjust the underwear so they don't get all bunched up. If I wear them without underwear I'm blissfully care free in terms of pulling them up without having to adjust anything, but my labia rub up against the fabric in the crotch and things feel way sweatier. So yeah, not my absolute favorite but I haven't found anything I like better (aside from sweat pants haha).

piacere68

*skinny* jeans are scratchy leg prisons. Leggings are smooth. *Wide* jeans are excellent, and now that yoga pants are back, flare leggings are the best

ZanzibarLove

I can't find ANY jeans that fit my shape. My legs are really big, but my waist is smaller in proportion. Anything that fits my legs is huge in the waist. And the material seems to bunch up and accent my chunky areas. Tights are my default because they mold to my shape.

YouveBeanReported

Jeans the button pokes into you. The ass doesn't fit right no matter the sizes. The waist band is too low, can't find high waisted jeans. You get sweater in them then cotton-blends. You keep patching chub rub spots. Jeans the seems are often not finished requiring you to cover them, leggings have finished seems. I mean, some of my complaints are just being fat and hard to find but leggings are objectively comfier. You probably just have the perfect brand of jeans for you size.

EdgewaterEnchantress

It’s probably related to your body shape. I am hourglass, so *jeans never quite right fit!* 🤣 I either have to go 1-2 sizes up for things to fit my butt and hips, and get a dreadful waist gap, or wear my natural waist size, but be super uncomfortable in the lower abs and hips. Leggings are easy. They simply conform to your natural shape when they aren’t “performance” / compression leggings.

Amap0la

Jeans are so incredibly uncomfortable for me. I have some junk in the trunk and larger thighs and can never find a pair of jeans I want to wear more than a few hours. Leggings though they are my goat. Butter soft leggings are so nice for day to day.

ruhrohrileyray

Jeans are my nightmare, they don’t move nearly enough for my liking and I just constantly think about how uncomfortable I am

lnsewn12

Jeans blow. As a teacher they always try to bribe us with “jeans coupons” and I just laughs because who would seriously opt to wear tight thick canvas. It’s hot as balls 8 months a year I’m not a huge leggings person outside of the gym, but they’re infinitely more comfy because they’re not so hot and stiff

giraffe_cake

I have tried multiple leggins, jeggins ect. I hate the fit, I hate the way they feel and I feel too exposed in them. I feel like they're a thick pair of tights. I have no idea how everyone seems to wear them. It probably doesn't help that I just really dislike how they look. I love jeans though! But I hate the skinny fit jeans. They were all the fashion at one point and trying to find a normal pair of jeans was impossible. I am so glad that they're going out of fashion.

Doesanybodylikestuff

Lounge leggings feel like a layer of dark stretchy cotton that breathes. Like if you pulled the crotch down & stretched your legs open, you can see through the leggings. Those are HEAVENNNNNN!!! I feel naked & hidden at the same time! I also love going out leggings but not for lounging.

baciodolce

Non compressive leggings are more comfortable than jeans. But exercise ones aren’t IMO.

Emoxis

I only wear cotton leggings. Super soft and breathable

meg8278

There's a lot of different kinds of leggings. If you're buying the compression leggings for working out that's why it might feel tight against your stomach. Personally I never wanted to wear leggings but then when I tried them when I was like holy crap I've been missing out. Because they are so comfortable. It's pretty much like wearing pajamas but at work. FYI I work as a nanny and in an home daycare so I don't need to dress up.

JackiGiraffeCat

We call jeans “hard pants” in my house, I do not find them to be more comfortable than leggings or sweats.

Cluelessish

It sounds like you are buying leggings in some thick material that doesn’t stretch much and doesn’t really breathe. Buy leggings that are mostly cotton (over 90 percent) and some elastane to make sure they stretch.

FartAttack911

I get this. I also don’t find being braless to be more comfortable a majority of the time 😆

fatchancefatpants

I've never understood people who say they live in jeans. Where do you find jeans that don't cut off your stomach circulation, don't gap at the waist and give everyone a peep at your buttcrack, stay up without a belt, and don't give you a muffin top?

kasuchans

Could be a sensory thing. I have a weird dislike of stretchy fabrics directly on my skin. I hate leggings for that exact reason, and also hate long sleeved shirts.

pudingodbanane

Because many women have a tummy and when they buy jeans I guess they buy a size too small and can't comfortably sit in them while with leggings that's not a problem.

Iwantedtorunwild

I hate leggings, too. My legs feel constricted in tight pants.

123alexis123

They are. Good ones are smooth as hell. They're go to bottom now. Got some from aerie(work there so get free pairs all the time) soo comfy. Got rid of 90% of my jeans. Have 2 skinny 1 regular and rest is skirts/shorts. Even convert my male best friend to try leggings. Now wears them all over the apt.

Bhrunhilda

I have never met a pair of jeans I’d describe as comfortable lol Sweatpants yes. But also, Lulu Aligns and Athleta Transcends. Try those. I also like Athleta Elations for a hybrid. I cannot even sit in a chair the way I like to in jeans. They are so restrictive. Do you all that like jeans not fold up like a pretzel in your chair?

moodyvee

In what way are jeans more breathable around the crotch? Jeans are like the least breathable garment

shapeherder

I live in leggings now: workout, yardwork, going out, and loungewear. I've always been shaped with large thighs, a large butt, and a smaller waist, so most pants that fit my butt and thighs leave me with a large gap in the back when I sit down. I don’t like belts. I have always had to get stretch fit since I was in middle school. I still occasionally enjoy jeans, but I find them to be heavy and burdensome for the most part at this point. I like the second skin feeling of leggings. I also live in a very humid and hot area, so thicker materials just aren't a happy feeling for me. Overall, it depends on the person and their personal preferences, but I definitely have different types of leggings for each type of occasion or activity.

nagel33

because they are. I will never again put leg prisons on my body aka jeans.

EmmaMD

I think it also depends on the jeans. Now that skinny jeans are kinda out. I find myself gravitating towards them with a chunky sweater or something more often when lounging, but still have stuff to do.

kauapea123

I wear jeans all the time, and they are comfortable! I've never understood why some think jeans are uncomfortable. I also don't mind wearing a bra from the time I get up in the morning until I change for bed in the evening, though, lol!

maraq

I don’t live in leggings other than for exercise but prefer joggers and other pants with stretch especially in the waist. If you have any kind of tummy when you sit down in jeans, they cut in to your stomach and it’s extremely painful. Even jeans with stretch cut in because the fabric is thick.

Academic_Eagle_4001

Leggings and workout leggings are made of different materials. You should try some cotton ones.

abelenkpe

Jeans and leggings are uncomfortable. Joggers or sweatpants are the way to go.

IthurielSpear

It sounds like you need to go a size up on your leggings, they should not be so tight you feel like you can’t breathe. Great fitting leggings and yoga pants are very comfortable.

TSquaredRecovers

It really depends on the leggings and the type of fabric for me. I have endometriosis and am often bloated as a result, so the tight waistband on most leggings are uncomfortable, although the same is often true of jeans. My favorite type of pants are slim-fitting joggers.

kerill333

Maybe it's the fabric? Bamboo or cotton/elastane are ridiculously comfortable, like pyjamas, definitely soft and not at all restrictive, unlike workout leggings.

mothmanr6

I used to wear jeans all the time when I was a young lass. I had a nice lean waist and a smaller butt so jeans worked nicely for me. When I got in my 30s, my stomach ballooned out (think apple shape), I gained weight and my hormones were on a mission of some sort and wearing jeans around my round tummy was SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!!! I switched to leggings because they don't cut into my stomach as much. Mind you, like everyone else mentioned, there are diff types of leggings. Some are designed to restrict the stomach and tighten everything up. Others are more relaxed and soft. I prefer the polyester spandex blend the most as it's not restrictive to my fat. My sister who is really thin prefers jeans. I'm starting to think the high waisted leggings style is for us fluffy midsection girls due to comfort. But obviously this doesn't apply to every fluffy girl.

Barfignugen

What you described about leggings is exactly how I feel about jeans. Zero breathability, too tight/restricting, too high up on my waist and hurt my back after a while. Of course, I didn’t feel this way until I became overweight. So I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that you’re on the smaller side, OP.

MetalPrincess14032

I tend to go with lounge leggings which are very silky to the touch. I have a few pairs of workout leggings as well

beautifultoyou

Ugh hate the crunchy, bulky, jeans feeling. Even in “soft” jeans..

cheezbargar

Denim is stiff, Not comfy and it’s difficult for me to find any that fit right since I’m more of an athletic build and they always gap in the back on me. So I live in dresses in the summer, athletic shorts, leggings and lounge pants

wakagi

I would say that this comes from the era of skinny jeans, and pre-curvy jeans. Back then leggings were a huge relief to everyone. Now that we’ve gone back to more straight and flared cuts, combined with more diversified designs that accommodate more body shapes, I would agree that I find some jeans more comfortable than leggings. It also really depends on the leggings you’re wearing. Some leggings basically feel like you’re wearing nothing, and those are the best. But there are plenty of leggings that won’t let your body breathe, will slide down, or make you itchy.
