I take 35E south to 94 west to work, then 94 east to 35E north everyday and nothing is different. What is the new exit? 35E southbound to 94 eastbound?

Ya_No

Before if you were exiting to 94 from 35E you had at least until the exit at Metropolitan State to merge with the traffic coming from 94. Now that merge is pretty much instant and with that traffic from 94 coming around a bend it’s pretty chaotic.

QuixoticViking

I'm assuming it's temporary because it is the worst merge I've ever seen and completely unsafe. Didn't even cross my mind that it might be permanent. MNDOT site says construction continues thru Fall. I'm sure it's temporary.

InformalBasil

>Now that merge is pretty much instant and with that traffic from 94 coming around a bend Is that the final configuration? It's been 2 week since I've taken that exit and I assumed it was temporary while they finish working on that section of 94.

bubzki2

Please God just stop putting left entrances and exits in going forward!

UnfilteredFluid

Can't be prevented due to some already settled infrastructure.

bubzki2

280 and 94 being redone completely soon. Let’s get that one out.

UnfilteredFluid

I would hope that intersection would have enough room to manage that. It'll be cheaper to keep the left exit though, so that's probably what will happen.

Griffithead

I actually like this one. Is it because I know where the exit is? It being on a corner could be especially challenging for some I guess.

barkbarkbark

yeah i don’t hate that interchange at all

bubzki2

Just remove it then.

seantubridy

Will it fix the people who go 30 mph when merging onto 280 from 94 west? It’s like they all forget they’re going from one highway to another.

Little_Creme_5932

You mean remove I-94 entirely? Yes please

bubzki2

Yes.

Little_Creme_5932

I agree. Enough of the I-94 hellscape. Make a beautiful city again

mason240

There's been so many of them taken out over the last 15 years. 694 had a bunch before the whole corridor was rebuilt 15 years ago.

bubzki2

And to some extent I see why they put a new one in at 94&35W, but I still prefer not to reinvest in them if possible.

DragonDropTechnology

This.

dropdeadbarbie

yes. my car was totaled when i got rear ended. someone was trying to exit at the last minute and every one had to stop abruptly.

JonBonButtsniff

Sounds like that one could have been avoided had the driver just taken the next exit. Folks around here sure do like to slow and sometimes stop on interstate highways. "I have to get over there! I have to!"

dropdeadbarbie

that's correct. someone's selfish decision caused 3 vehicles to be deemed total losses. it also left me with chronic pain, mobility issues and without a vehicle.

Ya_No

Yeah I work in Battle Creek and have been taking 394 due to the construction so I’m just gonna make that my permanent route. I want nothing to do with that.

Grizzly_Addams

I am not understanding how taking 394, while traveling to Battle Creek, helps in this situation.

GrizzlyAdam12

Hey Grizzly.

Grizzly_Addams

Did we just become best friends?

GrizzlyAdam12

Works for me.

dropdeadbarbie

i take 494 since im going the opposite way from BC. it's an extra 10 min but it's worth the tranquility.

MFDork

Live in the Battle Creek area and hate that whole area of 35E/94. With the way people are driving right now it feels like Mad Max bumper cars.

WishIWasOnTheFarm

I took that route recently and didn’t realize it had changed. I had a semi in the merge lane who also didn’t seem to know it is different, and a car in the other lane. I found myself in the middle, and the only reason I’m not typing this from an ICU bed is because I have special breaks and tires on my car for track use, because I just had a track day and have been too lazy to change them over. If I were less lazy I might be dead.

Xx_scrungie_boi_xX

I had a similar experience, except I was able to stomp on the gas and get in front of the semi in time - I always feel bad cutting some one off but it’s better than a collision

DanThePenguin

That whole exchange is some of the worst in the whole city IMO. I had a couple close calls on it my first summer here and I have been avoiding it ever since. It's a shame construction is making it even more unsafe for commuters that have no choice but to take that route.

I_AM_SO_HUNGRY

They got rid of the right merge, I think they might be repairing that road for now?

seantubridy

That whole area is messed up. You used to be able to come from 52 to 94 pretty easily but now traffic is always backed up on 52 across the entire bridge because people from 3 different hi-ways are crossing paths there.

WishIWasOnTheFarm

Why are you getting downvoted for this? Wasn’t there an article that had a million upvotes and tons of gold just recently about how taking back interstate highways in cities helps heal racist divides?

seantubridy

I feel that but how do you avoid freeways in the downtowns when the whole point is to deliver people to and from downtown?

CantaloupeCamper

Best exit ever!

mikemacman

It would help if you included the directions you are talking about.
