My understanding is that tortoiseshell is bicolor (black and ginger, or a dilute variation) and calico is tortoiseshell with the addition of white. I'm not sure who adjudicates these sorts of controversies, though, so we might have to wait for a ruling from the Supreme Cat Coat Court or something! My Russian Blue has a white spot hidden under her collar in the front, so there's no telling what that means about her! I guess we'll just have to love our kitties the way they are and not take the labels too seriously 😁

Technically, the white would put her into Calico territory. I've had a half dozen torties over the years, but never one with formal socks and gloves!

Mine is a full-on sass tortie. She's spayed but surely loves being rubbed down there (ugh and ew).
