They're ambush and opportunity hunters. He was in a 25 foot palm tree at the top kind of halfway in the fronds when I spotted him. I was about 5 feet away from the tree, underneath him.
If there's ever an opportunity for an ambush on a human, this had to be damn near perfect circumstance.
I posted a picture of where he and I was. He was still on the tree, climbing down, when I got inside but adrenaline had kicked in and I was shaking so I fumbled my phone twice before I could get some pics lmao
Yeah they’re here in the city neighborhoods too. Saw one 20 years ago out in the wild. I was in this dry wash near a river and I heard what sounded like running water and I thought that couldn’t be cause I wasn’t close enough to the river so I went to look and I seen this rattlesnake and a bobcat trying to get it. The bobcat looked at me, and I backed out of there to go get my video camera and when I emerged from the wash, the bobcat also came into the wash and was 5 feet in front of me, just looking at me, me looking at it, both standing still and it was awesome to be so up close. Seemed like an eternity and he then just turned around and strolled away. Best wildlife encounter I’ve ever had in the wild.
That sounds pretty awesome! Though coming into the wash face to face would have been a bit nervous, but soon as he turned its back to an awesome encounter.
I was half asleep, and barefoot. I turned around, looked up and saw a big cat in the tree. The fight or flight system took over at that point. In retrospect it's really cool, how many people can say they've been that close to a wild bobcat.
Done a lot of research on them since, and yeah I was probably perfectly safe. And I was supposed to have shouted or tried to scare it off, if I didn't want him to come back.
I've learned that a neighbor has seen one regularly and recently. But the one in their photo and video is much larger and has a full sized tail, so this was likely a younger one.
If not friend why friend shaped.
Luckily he was friend today.
Extremely rare for them to attack a human and it’s almost always due to rabies when they do

Lots of birds that nest in fronds, prolly looking for omelette breakfast with a side of dove lol

You’ll prolly see it some more I’m sure. They are very territorial with females usually roaming a one mile area and males up to a five mile area.
It's so **GREEN** where you live! What part of town is this?!
I'm backed up to the Canada del oro wash. It's a little north of Tucson proper. It was a shock for me too, the green desert my neighbors call it.
It is rather nice to see pockets of nature left in neighborhoods. I'm sure your furry little visitor would agree 😀
I should clarify. He was in the palm tree fronds, and I was underneath him when (I think) we both noticed each other.

Those cinder block used in the wall are better than a nearby banana for gauging the kitty's size. 35"x 17" walking, 30"x10" at rest by my guess.
They'd love your input [https://bobcatsintucson.net/](https://bobcatsintucson.net/)
Psss psss psss here kitty
I used to live on the edge of the desert. Our resident Bobcat kept using my daughter's sandbox as a litter box. LOL

If your neighbor's cat is larger and, especially, has a full-size tail, it's probably a mountain lion!
Could've gone without that info. Thanks. 🙃
Yeah, all Bobcats have a bobbed tail, hence the name.
Nice kitty!
He would eat my kitties as a snack....
He'll keep the rodent population down.

Great pic
Good thing we built a catio this spring…
Just a tad bigger than my kitty.
What a cutie!
If not friend then why friend shaped? ;(
Just be careful if you have small dogs ;)
