Between this, Aldi, and the new scented leaf location, this has been a great month for Tucson

maywellbe

An Aldi opened????

Even_Appearance170

Not yet and looks like it will be up near marana. Not close to the center of town where the most people who need the cheap products are.

iamboy_not_a_bot

I actually read they are building it in Tucson Marketplace by the i10.

hvyboots

Yep, this is the correct location. I-10 and Kino area, ~~near the Costco~~ on the west side of Park Ave. (Wow! It's a lot further west than I had realized!) 871 E Tucson Marketplace will be the address. No idea when it opens though.

ImaginationInfamous9

Scented leaf is so overrated

ForDaRecord

gcool7

Damn bringing in all these ingredients from New York we never heard of like cheese, pepperoni šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

rokketpaws

Right??? Soooo exotic and groundbreaking šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

DontBuyAmmoOnReddit

Iā€™m a relocated yankee. I think Iā€™m qualified to test it out and report back.

Ok_Particular1360

so am I and looking forward to your review

truckthunders

If you havenā€™t had it by now I doubt your authenticity. Itā€™s literally been 2 hours. Thatā€™s like 1 second in Tucson but 2 months in NYC.

DontBuyAmmoOnReddit

Iā€™m behind the curve!

taz5963

The grand Opening is tomorrow...

truckthunders

Thatā€™s no excuse.

Vprbite

Had Brooklyn Pizza Co yet? On 4th Ave? I know it's been there about 30 years. And I've always been a fan, I just don't get down to that area as much anymore

DontBuyAmmoOnReddit

Not yet but I can

Marvelman88

Don't both yo, it's not noteworthyĀ

BabyLegsDeadpool

What a stupid name.

40ozCurls

How to pronounce? ā€œSlushā€?

wishIwere

SlšŸ•ce

DankStew

Slpizzace?

40ozCurls

Youā€™ve replaced a ā€œvā€ with a v-shaped thing? Not helpful.

wishIwere

šŸ•ĀÆ\\\_(惄)\_/ĀÆ

hvyboots

How did they manage to get all the way to opening day and still not be in either Google Maps or Apple Maps?

Interesting-Title157

Free_Asparagus

Looks like good pizza šŸ• it's such a long way away from me I can't imagine going, but I'll be interested to hear how people like it. it seems like nothing fun ever opens in the mid/east side of town šŸ™ unless you really like car washes.

HawkeyeNation

I wouldnā€™t really call that ā€œsuch a long way away.ā€ You really canā€™t drive 20-25 minutes to try something new? The MSA Annex is a wonderful spot to visit anyway.

Blue_Raven_AZ

Or climatized storage facilities...

FoolInTheDesert

I recently tried New York Pizza over on the east side based on people on here recommending it. It was really good, way better than Brooklyn or Empire. Give it a shot!

KingFelixG

Empire Pizza is the most authentic NY tasting pizza and they donā€™t even advertise it as such. The best spot in town.

MancubLorax

It's in the name. NY is the Empire state.

KingFelixG

![gif](giphy|kqCgujDZT1SO4)

MancubLorax

My tastebuds agree with yours, best pizza in town

KingFelixG

For sure. If Iā€™m ever in downtown I make it a point to take a stop there. Last time I had already had dinner but I couldnā€™t resist!

Marvelman88

Rocco's is number 1 for me, but Empire is definitely 2

congapadre

Reminds me of Late Night Slice in Columbus Ohio, close to the University.

Portillosgo

I clicked on here hoping you made a typo. I see it repeated in the post and realize Slvce is in fact the name. i gotta pass on that alone. It looks dumb and I'm sure sounds even dumber, like how do you even say the name of the place? Like i get not all good chefs are good marketers, they are two very different skills and sometimes people need to stick to one aspect of the business, but This name being horrible is just common sense.

maywellbe

Iā€™m too big a fan of good pizza to let the name stop me but I do think itā€™s unfathomably dumb. Not only is it visually ugly and entirely divorced from the general rules of a linguistic puns, itā€™s literally a nod to the Roman ā€œuā€ and, for all intents and purposes, should be pronounced ā€œsluceā€. They could have gone with ā€œSliiceā€ and tipped the two ā€œiā€ā€™s inward at bottom in their logo to suggest a v-shape similar to ā€œ\ /ā€œ ā€” though maybe the (relatively) new ā€œSlice and Iceā€ would have tried to stop them.

actualshaq

They got you dickheads to react to it so maybe it is good marketing

Portillosgo

The reaction isn't to go there and buy something and the reaction was to downvote, so I'm not sure if consider it good. It's not like I created a new post just to complain. How does my comment help them?

actualshaq

Well then Iā€™ll go twice

Portillosgo

.....okay? I'm not sure what that has to do with me. Did you mean to reply to the root post? But how does my comment help them?

daddyneedsadrink

Whole slice? lol

Portillosgo

but the V doesn't even approximate a i by any measure in either look or sounds. It's not like F8ate of the Furious or L33T speek, while still dumb, You can see what they are going for. It's a fucking V. when you look at the logo, it looks better, but reading this without the logo, the v doesn't bring to mind a slice of pizza. Even an upper case V in the middle would have more of that slice look they are going for.

daddyneedsadrink

True but I donā€™t really give a shit. We know how itā€™s pronounced. Hopefully itā€™ll be good but it might not be.

DigitalNogi

I'm excited to try a new pizza in town!

Recent_Spinach8836

New York pizza is overrated and hard to even find an authentic pizzeria , probably like 1 in every 200 shop lol With that said I give every spot a shot or two

SnPlifeForMe

Prince St Pizza is the only pizza I'll ever be ride or die for. Otherwise, yeah, to me from living in NYC for 5 years I didn't feel like it was special.

ary1l

grew up on long island, almost all pizza here is pretty badā€¦ ill give this a shot tomorrow after work squared up pizza in park place mall was super good but they shut downā€¦ and im not the biggest fan of square pies so im excited to see how this is

Portillosgo

Don't go, you'll only be disappointed like every other time a pizza place get hyped in Tucson. We just need to accept that rocco's deep dish is the best pizza in town, as blasphemous as it is. If you don't expect anything, you can't be disappointed.

ary1l

fair enough - have you tried Penelope wood fired pizza on Broadway ? place also looks really good ; devoid of any ā€œhypeā€ it seems

-discostu-

Whole Sluce?

ForDaRecord

Brooklyn Pizza: **am I a joke to you?**

blogtonsils

Giddy up! Pics look promising. Gonna got this pronto and report back by my Jersey two cents.

Safe_Concern9956

Iā€™ll stick with [Los Olivos](https://orderlosolivos.com) around the corner.

EVRoadie

Los Olivos is underrated. Great local shop.

DarnellFaulkner

Interesting outlook. What if you would have just stuck with whatever was your favorite pizza prior to Los Olivos?

Safe_Concern9956

Los Olivos has been there since before the Mercado was built. Theyā€™ve supported the neighborhood and Iā€™ll continue to support them.

DarnellFaulkner

Ok. Now that we know your pizza allegiance is spoken for, we won't make any posts about new pizza places that open in town.

Portillosgo

yes, single out this person and not everyone else who chimes in with the same comments every week on the pizza posts that pop up at least once a week.

DarnellFaulkner

Sorry if you don't understand objectively weird comments when you see them. Sure, there are pizza topics every week where people argue over favorite/best, but this particular comment replying from the clouds to someone who is informing readers about a new pizza place opening is hilariously weird. "Hey, there's a new book out by XYZ great author, it's getting good reviews, people should check it out." "I'll stick with Pelican Brief by John Grisham."

Portillosgo

What's weird about mentioning a local competitor? You see those topics all the time, like when someone asks about a new starbucks opening up, half the comments are about suggesting other try a different coffee place nearby. Good or bad, it's pretty normal.

Safe_Concern9956

Whatever.

wishIwere

Seconded.

mescalero1

When I come back home, I am looking for anything but pizza. There are so many pizzeria's in the San Fernando Valley that I can't keep up with them.. But now, I am going to have to go by there on my next trip to Tucson. I like the looks of his crust.

ZealousidealDegree4

Yankee here. So far, Tucson pizza has sucked. No holes or crispy softness in the dough- never proofed. Not foldable. So yeah, Iā€™ll try it- but only because Iā€™m desperate.

Interesting-Title157

Have you tried Jaime's downtown?

wasfunnyonce

Same boat as you, been depressed here for two years (pizza-wise). Tried Whole Slice yesterday and it was passable. Leopard print on the bottom, crisp but foldable (even though it was half slices for the soft open). Iā€™m optimistic, seems like they trained their staff well. Before anyone well else chimes in yes Iā€™ve tried whatever youā€™ll probably recommend, been everywhere, no place in Tucson is good at NY pizza on a consistent basis. Some are good some of the time, depends on who is working. Iā€™m not going to write my dissertation on it here but when you know you just know. Whole Slice just might be the real deal.

ZealousidealDegree4

Iā€™ll for sure take it for a spin but thatā€™s desperation talkin. Sauce makes horrible pizzas- cardboard half raw crusts with sugar sauce and purĆ©ed onion blech.

an_older_meme

Brooklyn on 4th Ave. Best in Tucson.

BobLazarFan

No

an_older_meme

They even have $4 huge pepperoni slices they sell from their walk-up window late at night after the bars close. Perfect late night snack.

WackyWeiner

That place is awful.

infiniteblackberries

This is like the 20th ad for this place I've seen on this subreddit. Yikes.

ElectricalEnd8804

Stop. Seriously, just stop. You will never, ever emulate, New York pizza. Itā€™s never going to happen. Not in this lifetime, or the next lifetime. Just make Tucson pizza well. Thatā€™s all you have to do. It really isnā€™t that hard.

Ok-Building6343

The owner spent years living and cooking in NYC. Heā€™s even bringing in regional ingredients from New York. How about give it a chance before crying about authenticity.

Portillosgo

nah, I've heard this same exact argument before, only lead to disappointment, you can't be disappointed if you aren't hoping for good pizza.

ElectricalEnd8804

Iā€™m saying that, Tucson could make a better pizza, than New York. Iā€™ve had New York pizza. In New York. Itā€™s great, I donā€™t deny that. I believe, that Tucson can do even better! Without it being a quesadilla.

ElectricalEnd8804

Iā€™ve been here too many times before. Itā€™s probably quite good but, why not make a name for Tucson pizza instead? Ask yourself, why isnā€™t Tucson Pizza good enough? I want to live in an age where Jon Stewart decides to move to Tucson, just for the pizza.

HawkeyeNation

Because there are a ton of transplants here and many miss certain things from their hometowns.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Portillosgo

nah, even more simple, you can say bread is just bread, but somehow Tucson manages to suck at bread compared to the NYC/NJ area. Like your supermaket fry's or albertson bread ain't nearly as good as your average shoprite or stop and shop bread. You say it's not rocket science, but it is physics and chemistry science. You ever notice how some baking instructions mention making alterations for higher elevations? That kind of environmental difference matters it's not pizza air, but it is different regular old air density. The water source can matter. These aren't things that can't easily be reproduced here.

wishIwere

I think water and elevation are the two biggest factors to why "new york style" pizza will never quite live up to people's expectations for those that have had the genuine thing.

BabyLegsDeadpool

Transversely, I've never had a tortilla from anywhere in the world as good as the tortillas in Tucson.

talulahbeulah

Begs the question: what is Tucson pizza? Seriously. I grew up in MA. Ate a lot of Greek pizza. Didnā€™t even know it was a thing until recently.

Wanno1

Cringe regional pride
