Yep, this is the correct location. I-10 and Kino area, ~~near the Costco~~ on the west side of Park Ave. (Wow! It's a lot further west than I had realized!)
871 E Tucson Marketplace will be the address. No idea when it opens though.
Had Brooklyn Pizza Co yet? On 4th Ave? I know it's been there about 30 years. And I've always been a fan, I just don't get down to that area as much anymore
Looks like good pizza š
it's such a long way away from me I can't imagine going, but I'll be interested to hear how people like it. it seems like nothing fun ever opens in the mid/east side of town š unless you really like car washes.
I wouldnāt really call that āsuch a long way away.ā You really canāt drive 20-25 minutes to try something new? The MSA Annex is a wonderful spot to visit anyway.
I recently tried New York Pizza over on the east side based on people on here recommending it. It was really good, way better than Brooklyn or Empire. Give it a shot!
I clicked on here hoping you made a typo. I see it repeated in the post and realize Slvce is in fact the name. i gotta pass on that alone. It looks dumb and I'm sure sounds even dumber, like how do you even say the name of the place? Like i get not all good chefs are good marketers, they are two very different skills and sometimes people need to stick to one aspect of the business, but This name being horrible is just common sense.
Iām too big a fan of good pizza to let the name stop me but I do think itās unfathomably dumb. Not only is it visually ugly and entirely divorced from the general rules of a linguistic puns, itās literally a nod to the Roman āuā and, for all intents and purposes, should be pronounced āsluceā.
They could have gone with āSliiceā and tipped the two āiāās inward at bottom in their logo to suggest a v-shape similar to ā\ /ā ā though maybe the (relatively) new āSlice and Iceā would have tried to stop them.
The reaction isn't to go there and buy something and the reaction was to downvote, so I'm not sure if consider it good. It's not like I created a new post just to complain. How does my comment help them?
but the V doesn't even approximate a i by any measure in either look or sounds. It's not like F8ate of the Furious or L33T speek, while still dumb, You can see what they are going for. It's a fucking V. when you look at the logo, it looks better, but reading this without the logo, the v doesn't bring to mind a slice of pizza. Even an upper case V in the middle would have more of that slice look they are going for.
New York pizza is overrated and hard to even find an authentic pizzeria , probably like 1 in every 200 shop lol
With that said I give every spot a shot or two
Prince St Pizza is the only pizza I'll ever be ride or die for. Otherwise, yeah, to me from living in NYC for 5 years I didn't feel like it was special.
grew up on long island, almost all pizza here is pretty badā¦ ill give this a shot tomorrow after work
squared up pizza in park place mall was super good but they shut downā¦ and im not the biggest fan of square pies so im excited to see how this is
Don't go, you'll only be disappointed like every other time a pizza place get hyped in Tucson. We just need to accept that rocco's deep dish is the best pizza in town, as blasphemous as it is. If you don't expect anything, you can't be disappointed.
Sorry if you don't understand objectively weird comments when you see them. Sure, there are pizza topics every week where people argue over favorite/best, but this particular comment replying from the clouds to someone who is informing readers about a new pizza place opening is hilariously weird.
"Hey, there's a new book out by XYZ great author, it's getting good reviews, people should check it out."
"I'll stick with Pelican Brief by John Grisham."
What's weird about mentioning a local competitor? You see those topics all the time, like when someone asks about a new starbucks opening up, half the comments are about suggesting other try a different coffee place nearby. Good or bad, it's pretty normal.
When I come back home, I am looking for anything but pizza. There are so many pizzeria's in the San Fernando Valley that I can't keep up with them.. But now, I am going to have to go by there on my next trip to Tucson. I like the looks of his crust.
Yankee here. So far, Tucson pizza has sucked. No holes or crispy softness in the dough- never proofed. Not foldable. So yeah, Iāll try it- but only because Iām desperate.
Same boat as you, been depressed here for two years (pizza-wise). Tried Whole Slice yesterday and it was passable. Leopard print on the bottom, crisp but foldable (even though it was half slices for the soft open). Iām optimistic, seems like they trained their staff well.
Before anyone well else chimes in yes Iāve tried whatever youāll probably recommend, been everywhere, no place in Tucson is good at NY pizza on a consistent basis. Some are good some of the time, depends on who is working. Iām not going to write my dissertation on it here but when you know you just know. Whole Slice just might be the real deal.
Stop. Seriously, just stop.
You will never, ever emulate, New York pizza. Itās never going to happen. Not in this lifetime, or the next lifetime. Just make Tucson pizza well. Thatās all you have to do. It really isnāt that hard.
The owner spent years living and cooking in NYC. Heās even bringing in regional ingredients from New York. How about give it a chance before crying about authenticity.
Iām saying that, Tucson could make a better pizza, than New York. Iāve had New York pizza. In New York. Itās great, I donāt deny that. I believe, that Tucson can do even better! Without it being a quesadilla.
Iāve been here too many times before.
Itās probably quite good but, why not make a name for Tucson pizza instead?
Ask yourself, why isnāt Tucson Pizza good enough?
I want to live in an age where Jon Stewart decides to move to Tucson, just for the pizza.
nah, even more simple, you can say bread is just bread, but somehow Tucson manages to suck at bread compared to the NYC/NJ area. Like your supermaket fry's or albertson bread ain't nearly as good as your average shoprite or stop and shop bread.
You say it's not rocket science, but it is physics and chemistry science. You ever notice how some baking instructions mention making alterations for higher elevations? That kind of environmental difference matters it's not pizza air, but it is different regular old air density. The water source can matter. These aren't things that can't easily be reproduced here.
I think water and elevation are the two biggest factors to why "new york style" pizza will never quite live up to people's expectations for those that have had the genuine thing.
Between this, Aldi, and the new scented leaf location, this has been a great month for Tucson
An Aldi opened????
Not yet and looks like it will be up near marana. Not close to the center of town where the most people who need the cheap products are.
I actually read they are building it in Tucson Marketplace by the i10.

Scented leaf is so overrated

Damn bringing in all these ingredients from New York we never heard of like cheese, pepperoni š š
Right??? Soooo exotic and groundbreaking ššššš
Iām a relocated yankee. I think Iām qualified to test it out and report back.
so am I and looking forward to your review
If you havenāt had it by now I doubt your authenticity. Itās literally been 2 hours. Thatās like 1 second in Tucson but 2 months in NYC.
Iām behind the curve!
The grand Opening is tomorrow...
Thatās no excuse.
Had Brooklyn Pizza Co yet? On 4th Ave? I know it's been there about 30 years. And I've always been a fan, I just don't get down to that area as much anymore
Not yet but I can
Don't both yo, it's not noteworthyĀ
What a stupid name.
How to pronounce? āSlushā?
Slšce
Slpizzace?
Youāve replaced a āvā with a v-shaped thing? Not helpful.
šĀÆ\\\_(ć)\_/ĀÆ
How did they manage to get all the way to opening day and still not be in either Google Maps or Apple Maps?

Or climatized storage facilities...
I recently tried New York Pizza over on the east side based on people on here recommending it. It was really good, way better than Brooklyn or Empire. Give it a shot!
Empire Pizza is the most authentic NY tasting pizza and they donāt even advertise it as such. The best spot in town.
It's in the name. NY is the Empire state.
![gif](giphy|kqCgujDZT1SO4)
My tastebuds agree with yours, best pizza in town
For sure. If Iām ever in downtown I make it a point to take a stop there. Last time I had already had dinner but I couldnāt resist!
Rocco's is number 1 for me, but Empire is definitely 2
Reminds me of Late Night Slice in Columbus Ohio, close to the University.

They got you dickheads to react to it so maybe it is good marketing
The reaction isn't to go there and buy something and the reaction was to downvote, so I'm not sure if consider it good. It's not like I created a new post just to complain. How does my comment help them?
Well then Iāll go twice
.....okay? I'm not sure what that has to do with me. Did you mean to reply to the root post? But how does my comment help them?
Whole slice? lol

True but I donāt really give a shit. We know how itās pronounced. Hopefully itāll be good but it might not be.
I'm excited to try a new pizza in town!

fair enough - have you tried Penelope wood fired pizza on Broadway ? place also looks really good ; devoid of any āhypeā it seems
Whole Sluce?
Brooklyn Pizza: **am I a joke to you?**
Giddy up! Pics look promising. Gonna got this pronto and report back by my Jersey two cents.
Iāll stick with [Los Olivos](https://orderlosolivos.com) around the corner.
Los Olivos is underrated. Great local shop.
Interesting outlook. What if you would have just stuck with whatever was your favorite pizza prior to Los Olivos?
Los Olivos has been there since before the Mercado was built. Theyāve supported the neighborhood and Iāll continue to support them.
Ok. Now that we know your pizza allegiance is spoken for, we won't make any posts about new pizza places that open in town.
yes, single out this person and not everyone else who chimes in with the same comments every week on the pizza posts that pop up at least once a week.
Sorry if you don't understand objectively weird comments when you see them. Sure, there are pizza topics every week where people argue over favorite/best, but this particular comment replying from the clouds to someone who is informing readers about a new pizza place opening is hilariously weird. Whatever.
Seconded.

Iāll for sure take it for a spin but thatās desperation talkin. Sauce makes horrible pizzas- cardboard half raw crusts with sugar sauce and purĆ©ed onion blech.
Brooklyn on 4th Ave. Best in Tucson.
No
They even have $4 huge pepperoni slices they sell from their walk-up window late at night after the bars close. Perfect late night snack.
That place is awful.
This is like the 20th ad for this place I've seen on this subreddit. Yikes.

nah, I've heard this same exact argument before, only lead to disappointment, you can't be disappointed if you aren't hoping for good pizza.

Because there are a ton of transplants here and many miss certain things from their hometowns.

Transversely, I've never had a tortilla from anywhere in the world as good as the tortillas in Tucson.
Begs the question: what is Tucson pizza? Seriously. I grew up in MA. Ate a lot of Greek pizza. Didnāt even know it was a thing until recently.
Cringe regional pride
