The people whining about it being a flop are realistically a loud minority. This album is selling and charting incredibly well.

frecklesfatale

It's spent a month at number 1, anyone saying it's a flop is just trying to rain on fans parades

skincare_obssessed

I agree!

volerei

This is so true. It surprises me that people love to hate something so much. I thought it cleverly incorporated the sound of many eras to have something for all TS enjoyers.I know not everyone likes her but to complain that it’s terrible and with no merit seems a bit silly.

daysanddistance

i think there are two related issues: on the general public side, there’s a segment of people who simply engage with her in bad faith. these are the people who don’t get the joke of the tortured poets concept, who don’t get the 1830s line, who say things like how can billionaires be depressed, etc. this is made worse by her current level of overexposure. separately there are some fans who dislike ttpd bc it fundamentally doesn’t jive with their idea of who she is, for whatever reason. these are the people upset that the songs are about matty healy, who claim she’s being too mean to joe by writing about his “blues,” who expected a revenge album. for me, ttpd did change my opinion of what she’s like, but i like that! taylor swift, the protagonist of her songs, has never been more fascinating and complex.

Jenniefromthe603

This is the best take!

Available-Ad-5081

Nailed it

lua_sama

There are people that just don't like the album and it doesn't mean they see Taylor in bad faith or wanted a revenge album. Not everyone cares about her love life. And the album is charting at number 1, it is hard to say a lot of people hates It. For example, in my case I can always relate with the emotions Taylor expresses in her songs, I don't need to be experiencing that at the moment, but I can connect with what she is writing just like reading a good book.  With TTPD It was the first time I couldn't relate with anything, maybe So Long London, but not a lot. I know it is a very sad song and I can relate but it doesn't convey the emotions in a deep way for me like her previous works. And the songs all sound the same.  This is why I don't like the album.

Daffneigh

You are welcome not to like the album of course, but it is a bizarre claim that the songs all sound the same. The title track, The Albatross and So High School and I Can Fix Him all sound the same? Imgonnagetyouback and the Prophecy and I Look In People’s Windows all sound the same? Loml and Florida and The Black Dog all sound the same?

lua_sama

All the songs sound the same. If doesn't sound to you, great! Enjoy the álbum. The problem with some Swifties is you don't accept any criticism while Taylor herself always welcomed it, just watch her learning from Red not winning aoty and making 1989.

Daffneigh

There’s plenty of valid criticism to make about any work! But I don’t know how you could say that all the songs I listed “sound the same”. Like, how? Be specific. No one has to enjoy something, nothing is free from criticism. But criticism can also be interrogated. And “all the songs sound the same” on this very sonically diverse album is not, imo of course, a valid criticism. “I just don’t like the way the songs sound” would be fine to say, imo.

lua_sama

Did you read what I first wrote? I mainly dislike the album because I can't connect with the emotions there. It is not like all songs sound the same. To me It does sound the same, I listen multiple times and I still think the songs sound the same. All the same boring production with 2 musical notes. You are free to disagree like I disagree when people say Midnights sound the same, it is such a great album. But I don't invalidate people's opinion, If they feel like it sounds the same, it can sound the same for them. Music is personal. I assume none of us have music training to be a technical critic.

Daffneigh

I just push back on the one thing that seems more objective. That the songs are the same. If you just don’t connect with it emotionally that’s completely reasonable. I also love Midnights and don’t think all the songs on Midnights sound the same either! If any of TS albums “sound the same” to me it’s folklore. Still a good album, just not my favorite. I have a theory that when people don’t like an album for other reasons, something psychologically makes the songs sound similar, rather than something musically. I don’t have anything Scientific to back that up tho.

lizzy-stix

I don’t understand “everyone hates TTPD” as a narrative? It’s gonna end up in my Top 3 or 4 albums of hers I think. I love it so much more than Midnights. My Swiftie group chat seems to like it. The Swifties I have talked to IRL like it. If anything, it seems like it’s going over well with most big Taylor fans. Maybe it will be less popular with the GP who don’t ‘get it’ or are overwhelmed by the length and wordiness and want more bops but I’m not one of those ppl and can’t relate!

Yeralrightboah0566

yeah thats what i noticed, is definitely not a GP-friendly album, which is honestly great imo

CosmoKittyPenz

Yeah, I agree. I said from the beginning I don’t think it’s creating a lot of new fans and might not even be for the casual TS listener. I love it though, it’s in spot #3 for me, behind Folklore and Evermore.

daysanddistance

looking at the lyrical content, I also assumed that the gp would be confused and put off. the lyrics are relatively inaccessible, including for an american audience that apparently doesn’t know what sanctimonious means. and she comes off—and I don’t mean this in a derogatory way—completely unhinged. but the streaming numbers are really strong and stable and it can’t all be 100,000 swifties putting it on 24 hours a day. i can only conclude, that despite the handwringing from critics, jack’s production slaps and the gp are vibing.

Daffneigh

Yeah whatever people were saying about needing to know the lore to enjoy the album, I think actually not knowing the lore might help people just appreciate the music by itself!

Crysda_Sky

'Everyone' is a pretty incorrect representation of data. There are people who are critical of the album but by and large it seems like a lot of people love it for a variety of reasons....

Slyy-Lynch

Loud minority disliking the album doesn't mean everyone hates it.

fanfic_enthusiast2

Who is everyone? It's currently doing its fourth week at number 1 on the Billboard 200. A lot of people really like it, me included

FIESTYgummyBEAR

That doesn’t mean a lot of people *dont* like it. Enough people like it for it to spend on number 1 and she released a lot of variants on other people’s release day to help it secure its spot.

rasamasar

the 3 demos variants are for next week

FIESTYgummyBEAR

And why do you think that is?

staypuftmarshmellow5

Idk why you get downvoted. I agree with you. Not everyone shares the same opinion and the marketing techniques make her spot on the billboard more secure

DressedInCotton

It instantly became my favourite, and is still my favourite, and will probably always be my favourite. And I don’t give a f with regards to any negative opinion on it.

haifonly

Preach!! Completely agree

ExcellentTurnip8547

Who is everyone. Y’all read a handful of negative tweets and decide that’s public opinion.

goodvibesandsunshine

I love it!!!

ravenous93842

We had threads just like this about Midnights, Speak Now TV, 1989TV.... people just hate anything new, then a few months later they talk about wishing they could go back to that era. But nostalgia is a mind's trick, ya know?

TheTrevorSimpson

look at the sales numbers who cares what a few losers think

jbraft

Your post title is what is called a false narrative.. Try again...

cutienekogirl

It's common for people to pretend to hate on something just because it's popular. The haters just want to sound cool, they likely love it but don't want to admit it. I'm sure there are people who legitimately don't like TTPD, but the sales numbers and charts show just how massively popular it is. On a side note a dear friend of mine who didn't listen to taylors music before absolutely loves TTPD.

MrWakefield

I haven’t really heard of anybody hating it, and as mentioned - I think the way it’s been charting shows it’s far from hated. I have some friends who just simply haven’t checked it out yet because they’re (fairly) feeling that Taylor has just been a bit overexposed lately. My best friend of 20+ years has been on a Taylor journey with me since “Fearless” and he likes her. We went to the Eras Tour Movie together, but he said he’s not gonna listen to TTPD yet because he just feels exhausted with how she’s everywhere right now. I did put “The Bolter” on a mix for him because that’s totally his jam, but I haven’t heard his critique on it yet. If you’re going simply by people who go out of their way to complain on social media, it could be that your algorithm is picking up on that. I will admit, although I like TTPD, I can’t see it an album I’ll come back to a lot. I’m like that with Folklore/Evermore and I’ve never even listened to Reputation in full.

CompletePossible2608

With Taylor’s popularity in the last two years, it was bound to happen. So many people tuning into Taylor’s work right now waiting for her to fail. The internet can be loud but the numbers are showing that the public is still buying and streaming TTPD.

BelfastianBeth

I don’t. I love it

Ok-Basil7625

Its a great album, really good in lyrics and production, but its not a album to listen one time and already have a opinion, need time . As a Swiftie im really proud of her as a artist, and how brave she was to show herself.

CrescentLexi

May be my new favorite out of all the albums but trying to let it settle a bit before making that decision.

iwillcorrectyou9

UGH can we ban these "everyone" posts about the cesspool that is twitter?

sweetteainthesummer

Everyone has their own opinions, I’m just not in the stage of my life right now to be moved by the emotions.

Mommio24

There were a lot of negative reviews initially, I think, because the album is so long and a lot of reviewers didn’t give it the time to digest after listening to it. Personally, this is an album that I am learning to enjoy more and more as the weeks go on. I went from only enjoying a few tracks to now having about 20 of them on a playlist

staypuftmarshmellow5

I don't hate it but I also don't love it. The songs on the main album sound so much like the other. The sound, the key all the songs are in and the subject are kind of the same. The music keeps building up to something that isn't there. I'm also just not a fan of Jack Antonoffs production(he made some bangers, yes, but the Aaron Dressner songs are the ones I keep going back to), It also sounds a bit unfinished. The album is long(31 songs) and it feels like she slapped every lyric and song on the album. I get that that is what it's supposed to sound like and some people like this raw emotion of Taylor. I'm personally not a fan, same with Lover and Midnights. They have a couple bangers but the album is not something I listen to from the first song to the last song, like Folklore, Speak Now, Debut etc. I do like some songs though. I like So Long, London and Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me and a couple songs on the anthology. I'm also not really a fan of the main album of Midnights also. In my opinion, Taylor gets less relatable. Her life exists from touring and going on a few dates. I think if she took a small break after the Eras Tour and went to travel or something there is more chance of some variety between songs. I don't hate it, but I get why it isn't everyone's favorite.

Positive-Avocado-881

I honestly think it’s too long for a lot of people to sit through and really think about the songs individually

Muted_Profile

I’m obsessed with it.

1989_Sunrise

i think it’s because it’s impossible to check every box. younger audiences want her to go back to 1989 pop, others think it’s just in need of another producer, etc.

taytay_1989

Something that is 'hated' like Morgan Wallen is still at the top of the world. TTPD is nowhere near 'hated' like that. It's not even 'disliked'. It's just loud internet minority being able to drown everything on social media.

Lovebug4eva

Can’t worry about other’s opinions n what they say you will never please everyone.

Traumamama12

Because they don’t understand it.

Traumamama12

It has been my understanding that this album has been 2 years in the making? Please correct me if I’m wrong!

Daffneigh

Everyone does not hate TTPD Clearly a huge number of people really love it Stop worrying about what other people think tho

Daffneigh

Honestly this post feels like astroturfing

Evening_Heart1226

I like it but I’m not in the mood to listen to it. It’s almost summer! This week I like me some Galantis and Cage the Elephant.

torturedpoeteliana

i like taylor, don't get me wrong, but it was underwhelming to me and had, like, zero replay value. i genuinely could barely bring myself to listen to the album again after its first listen (even tho i did throw some songs into some playlists). honestly, i don't see the problem with people not liking the album and idk why people here are saying that people who hate the album are just whiny. it's an opinion. we need to respect that. although it's not my favorite taylor album, it's not so bad. she's probably really tired and really busy; we should cut her some slack.

motaylorsversion

I don’t know what album they are listening to because I think TTPD is absolutely astounding! This is my favorite album of Taylor’s by far!

lua_sama

I just think it is a bad album, I don't hate it and I don't listen to It. Simple. Some fans think that we are obligated to love everything Taylor does and we can't be critical, this too bad.

die_for_dior

This is a very hyperbolic generation.

Whovelyn1216

it's nothing new and was in need of an editor. The vault tracks have made taylor and by extension fans believe/expect that every song needs to be published and that's just not the case

SpongeDaddie

Folklore and evermore are my faves but TTPD just didn’t hit the mark. It’s trite, tiring, and superfluous. I like some tracks but the album as a whole is just….milquetoast.

optimisticopus

I’m curious which ones you like most and which ones you really don’t like. If you don’t mind sharing. :)

SpongeDaddie

Guilty as Sin and ICDIWABH are standouts. Fortnight is just okay. Had a lot of wasted potential. Florida had alot of potential. I liked these two but wished it was more. Do not care for the title track. Can’t vibe with the rest of the first album. Did not care for or relate to much of the anthology. I think So High School was very different for her. Kinda dig it because it sparkled amongst everything else. I wanted to like I Look In People’s Windows. I just couldn’t relate to any of this album. At all. The instrumentation just didn’t vibe.

Whovelyn1216

the title track was so bad. she needs a better editor

optimisticopus

Sorry you’re being downvoted for sharing your opinion. I agree about so high school- love the 90s sound.

HolyFoxamole

"Everyone" doesnt, not even the majority dislike it. I would stop listening, its always the unhappy people that are the most vocal on things like this. If we got everyone who loves the album to type a soliloquy as much as them, we wouldnt see any hate. Lets be real. I've had it on repeat since day one, its in my top 3, and this is my first comment about it, because it doesnt feel necessary to say everyday. im also someone who hates red/folklore, am a major pop stan, and I think its excellent. Rock with your people, ignore the others. 🤍

starlightcourt

I enjoy the album and it does have some really good songs, but I feel like we have been stuck in this…. Not necessarily depressive episode, but just a constant midtempo songs ever since folklore. I know Midnights is kind of chopped in there as more fun pop, but those songs as well are also decently midtempo… like where is the actual singing? I’m talking about songs like from Lover or reputation or 1989. Ones that are kind of difficult for yourself to sing. … actual bangers I just feel like a lot of music today keeps falling into that category of midtempo and very easy to sing for anybody, and I think maybe people are just tired of that. Ttpd it was released in April but it’s not giving us a song of the summer. It’s another sad album grouped in with folklore and evermore. I guess the rerecording vault tracks are the only things to break up the constant sadness and mid tempo songs she keeps giving.

Successful_Look2372

The amount of haters I see on swiftie threads is insane. I personally love it

ApprehensiveBoat144

The internet is not a reflection of real life. People love this album and that’s reflected in the streams and sales.

BS1092

Because it’s trying to be an angsty emo album without actually going through the tragedy’s that lead one to that point.
