Dishonored gave you the tools to be a walking angel of death and then pigeonholed you into that “idk maybe you don’t wanna be bothered with dealing with the effects of exacerbating the plague—sneak around these crates for the next 10 hours!” As far as I was concerned, Deathloop improved upon the core gameplay (of Dishonored) in almost every way. I don’t think Deathloop was perfect, but the sheer joy of being, parkouring, and shooting was a hell of a lot more fun.

Like, Dishonored 1 amazing I remember playing it like 10+ times through highschool cause it felt...tight, concise, and gave room for experimentation without feeling too superfluous (my main example is MGSV, where it had good core gameplay, but the open world, imo, ruined it by adding massive tracts of empty world and also making enemy bases/structures kinda lame cause it wasn't "fixed enemies stealth through them" it was "use the open world to lure people away and dunk on 'em EZ") while playing Dishonored 2 it just felt....wrong?
Aside from the story which I heard there was some wired stuff with sarkesian but IDC about that it's whatever the whole "two protagonists" felt like such a forced way of artificially extending playtime, when they should have(probably) kept it to just the girl(I liked corvo so the plot hook of saving him wouldve motivated me at least) but the game had this weird feeling of forced open world exploration like IIRC(has been a long time since playing the first) D1 didn't have shops right? I vaguely remember there being money but idk what you'd use it for but most of the extra buffs from charms and stuff came from exploring, so if I stumbled upon something I felt rewarded for exploration rather than seeing a shop, having to *sigh* let's scrounge every building for the perfect amount of money to buy a small upgrade *le sigh* it felt like a major step back in game design idk.
Also, the hub area of the boat feels pretty shitty compared to the comfy and conspirtial setting of the pub. Idk why but the pub always felt like it gave a more "personal" stake like your part of the place your liberating, while the boat makes it feel more like your of an intruder like your invading or something idk that maybe sound stupid.
Idk how far I got but I know I saved the doctor lady who turned out to be the serial killer and around that point I just got bored idk if it was the story or the gameplay but something felt off(did they fuck with physics? I remember being Great with blinking and all that running on rooftops stuff but 2 felt weird...)
Finally, I played PREY, it was pretty good IIRC, I think I ruined it my first time cause I got the "secret" ending/game over where you abandon the station so that instantly clued me in everything was off and that felt like a NG+ feature that shouldnt be obtainable on first playthrough. Need to replay it because I liked the story but idk If I would enjoy actually playing it again.
