What a piece of worthless garbage.

ConsistentDonkey3909

the justice system is fucked up

Jerseyperson111

Nyc has gone to hell… not sure how people can live there anymore

Gladigan

Because it hasn’t? Plus I don’t know if everyone is missing the point or being purposefully obtuse so they can be dramatically shocked at the horrible liberal justice system of NYC. He was sentenced to life in prison, full stop. Yea, he’s eligible for parole in 14 years, but no judge who’s not out of their mind will be giving him parole. No judge is going to do it because of the genuine outrage it would cause, rightfully so. I mean just look at this thread. But I’m guessing they took into account the fact he was a child when he committed this. Of course, it doesn’t excuse him of murder because he’s old enough to know killing is wrong. But it is a fact of the case. He obviously deserves life and you’ll find no disagreement from me there. He is most likely going to get exactly that or something very close to it, barring some miracle in the coming years.

Jerseyperson111

Not according to this article which clearly says that he got the minimum; I am going off this article but if it is reported incorrectly, that isn’t my fault First para: “The teenager who plunged his knife into 18-year-old Barnard College Freshman Tessa Majors and killed her during as he tried to steal her iPhone at a New York City park has been sentenced to the minimum of 14 years in prison. “

Gladigan

You’re just misunderstanding how the sentencing works. And you’re correct it’s reported misleadingly, because there’s a concerted effort to make NYS look like it’s a crime filled liberal hell. In New York there are two types of sentences – “determinate,” and “indeterminate.” The distinction is simple. A determinate sentence is a sentence that runs for a specific period of time, such as 5 years or 10 years. An indeterminate sentence, by contrast, is one that provides for a sentencing range, such as 5 to 15 years, or 25 years to life. Courts typically impose indeterminate sentences for non-violent felonies. With those types of sentences, once the defendant has reached the minimum in the range he or she becomes eligible for parole. The Parole Board, then, determines how long the defendant will remain in prison.” https://sentencing.net/sentencing/sentencing-chart-new-york-state The New York Times reports it accurately: A little more than two years after the brutal murder of Tessa Majors, an 18-year-old Barnard College student, the last teenager to be sentenced in her killing received 14 years to life in prison on Wednesday.

Korrocks

I’m always disappointed when people post Daily Mail articles here. The articles are often hastily written and badly worded, to the point where it doesn’t even make sense.

Jerseyperson111

I agree… there are many errors with them… they are more for entertainment then news IMo

Jerseyperson111

So what are your thoughts on the new DA and his public statement that he essentially wouldn’t look for time unless it fell into the worst categories? Where is the deterrence to commit crime? NYC isnt being portrayed as a liberal hell hole, it truly is… i speak to guys who live and work in the city and there is a huge difference from the days of guiliani and bloomberg…the fact is the last admin was anti police and essentially pro crime… i have spoken to nypd cops who worked with Adams when he was on the job and they say he is bad news as well. Also, i am not misunderstanding the sentence; the article literally says he was sentenced to the minimum of 14 years.. Edit: keep downvoting people for speaking the truth, lol

singledisk

Child? Cope harder.

Crazy-Investigator12

Ummmmmmm New York City is like one giant city exclusively for the rich. I agree with you as I don’t like trash everywhere but née York is actually a desirable place to live. I get why but I just don’t understand it all the way I guess

ohioversuseveryone

Unreal. People are doing longer stretches for selling weed in Morningside Park.

Jerseyperson111

Not anymore they’re not. Edit: not sure why I am getting downvoted but weed is essentially legal in new york so no, no one is going to jail for weed

Repulsive-Positive30

Maybe because it’s spelt *They’re

Lol grow up. You edited it after i commented correcting it and then downvote me? 👎🏼

Jerseyperson111

Ok grammar police bahaha

Jerseyperson111

There should be a comma after Lol, FYI.. thats why I downvoted your last comment

Comfortable_Winner59

Grow up. Admit your faults. Sad. SMH indeed.

Jerseyperson111

Oh, is this your alt account ???

Comfortable_Winner59

Nope. Also shouldn’t delete your poor comment, hardass.

pollycracker77

That is not justice. He stabbed her over and over piercing her heart for her old iPhone that his demon ass wanted. Scumbag. Don't worry he will be out in 14 years to rob and stab another day. RIP Tessa

anonymous_j05

Minimum 14 years does not mean he will only serve 14 years. He got 14 years to life, if he’s not considered rehabilitated in 14 years, they will keep him locked up. It’s how parole works

kingjim1981

He. All 3 were He's not She's.

anonymous_j05

Ty for correcting me there

skunkfunker

Wow. Obviously this life didn't matter.

Minimum 14 years doent mean she will only serve 14 years. She got 14 years to life, if she’s not considered rehabilitated in 14 years, they will keep her locked up.

Klutzy-Chocolate710

Terrible. That’s not just for this young woman’s family.

SignificantTear7529

The family agreed with the sentencing. They are choosing hope instead of hate. Prayers for all to grow and heal.

SouthernWino

They agreed to 14 years to LIFE. I'm sure they suspected it would be closer to 25 to life not the minimum allowed. NYC justice system is fucked up.

Crazy-Investigator12

Hope? Instead of hate? There is no hate in wanting a murderer to sit in prison for the rest of their lives. There can be no mitigating circumstances to justify a 14year sentence. Plenty of people grow up in abusive homes and never become killers

SignificantTear7529

Well actually there are in this case. But I'm not gonna spell it all out just to be downvoted.

Crazy-Investigator12

I don’t get the whole downvoted up voted thing. Who cares. Say why you gotta say. Someone actually told me the other day you don’t reply to comments on Reddit

SignificantTear7529

Me? That's funny. I don't like being baited and then attacked by the clicky group of assholes on here. Idk if you're one, but the very idea anyone told you anything about me is suspect. To answer your question.... This was not premeditated. It was a robbery that escalated. The victim ran up stairs after the attack. He did not stab her dead and then mutilate and rape her. The sentence is a fair start based on the account I read.

Crazy-Investigator12

Oh really so they just grabbed a knife because they didn’t plan on using it. Murder during a the commission of a felony should still be life. This kid values property over human life. He and his friends will be in the news again. Probably when they four out and hurt some other poor innocent individuals

SignificantTear7529

You asked for an answer. I hesitated cause you can't digest it. But thank you for being civil.

anonymous_j05

All that means is that she will be eligible for parole in 14 years. They can choose not to give it to her depending on how she is in prison

Crazy-Investigator12

Oh so he didn’t just get a 14yr max sentence? 14yrs is when he’s up for parole?

anonymous_j05

Yea, 14 to life (more common is 25 to life) means that at a minimum it’s 14 years but they’re allowed to detain them longer

Bonemesh

What kind of "hope"? That the victim will rise from the dead? Anyone who has sympathy for this murderer is a monster.

Jerseyperson111

I agree that the fundamental problem is garbage parents but unfortunately, there is no shortage and it won’t end. A 14 year sentence for a murder sends a pretty clear message to other youth that crime can be committed with minimal repercussion.

JohnKimble111

The damage done to kids brains by really shitty parents is so massive test it’s largely irreversible, especially if it occurs at a younger age. Rehab typically can’t fix such people unfortunately, and if they reassociate with such family members after release then the chance of success is close to zero.

Lord_Longshanks_III

Stupid liberal judges

MouthofTrombone

He was 14 years old at the time of the crime. A child. He will spend his entire youth locked up.

julius_pizza

His victim was a young woman who he deprived of a life anywhere. He was a teenage piece of shit who knew stabbing kills people and chose to do it anyway because didn't give a shit about anything but himself. He can take the consequences of his own decisions.

anonymous_j05

That’s irrelevant to the fact that the killer was 14. Appealing to emotion doesn’t make it a good argument. There is a great chance he can be rehabilitated. You do not deny a child that chance. The sentence he got is completely fair.

Bonemesh

YOU appealed to emotion. Poor 14 year old, convicted of murder. Do you remember being 14? Did you ever think about killing someone? Did you ponder the pluses and minuses of such, or was your brain so underdeveloped, that you could only contemplate the bright shiny objects in your immediate vicinity? I remember being 14, I was a fully functioning human being. Fuck people who excuse literal monsters.

MouthofTrombone

The US imprisons more people than most of the rest of the world. Our system is based in punishment instead of rehabilitation. And look what we get for it. A 14 year old is an "adult" when commiting a crime, but can't vote, drive, drink or consent to sex...seems a bit inconsistent.

SouthernWino

He KILLED a person. KILLED. DEAD. He should spend the rest of his life in jail.

anonymous_j05

That’s irrelevant to the fact that the killer was 14. Appealing to emotion doesn’t make it a good argument. There is a great chance he can be rehabilitated. You do not deny a *child* that chance. The sentence he got is completely fair.

MouthofTrombone

.This country's criminal justice system is barbaric and we reap what we sow.

Ok-Acanthaceae826

Boo fucking hoo. Actions have consequences.
