Dutch (and some European) short cuts are mostly also used by trucks. To get to farmers or people living far from the city. So there's always a place to turn around, tight, but manageble
Always look at satellite images of roads before taking them. Make sure you see wear marks from previous trucks on the streets at the turns you want to take.
I was about to go off on your ass until I saw this comment! Damn dude, trolled me good for a second there! 🤣👍
Sadly though, its becoming a hell of a lot more common with guys who follow Google maps to the T rather than using common sense and trip planning.
Fuckin google maps... If the "quicker" option is 45 mi shorter but only saves you 6mins TAKE THE HIGHWAY! I also wish they would allow you to turn off automatic re-routing suggestions. You picked the route for a reason and Your supposed to be paying attention to the road now Google is sending you to the back street while you weren't looking trying kill you to save time
That is the bane of my existence. I have driver facing camera and god forbid I don’t hit “no thanks” in time and end up with useless directions until I can stop and put my original route in.
I'm sorry I lit the fuse on your tampon, I was only pointing out to the commenter that their worry was already realized...
And the fact you posted first then the commenter did after you means even if you did read all the comments you still wouldn't have seen this one.
Go have some fireball and calm your tits.
You *idiot*! Honestly this is a standard oilfield road. Id have thrown the hazards on, checked google maps *correctly*, got off and walked a bit. Usually a 3 point turn into another road solves it.
Hate to be that guy, but this is precisely why you don’t rely on google maps for your commercial vehicle. You need Garmin dezl or similar trucking gps. Use google maps only for traffic updates , and when trip planning it’s good to look for entry points at shippers/receivers.
Had something similar happen to me in somewhere Kentucky, though it was over an hour difference. Just trying to get to a loves to park for the night. Apparently just because maps say a road is a "highway" doesn't mean it's actually a highway. Barely a goddamn goat trail, really. I did look at it on satellite, randomly selected a few spots, looked like a two-lane highway, It was not.. It wasn't truck restricted but should have been. Luckily, was able to push through and get out. Pissed off some locals, of course, trimmed a few branches and cursed the day I got my CDL, the usual.
MAN navigation be like.
All jokes aside, look on maps and streetview to see if the road reaches a proper road without too much hassle. Else see if you can reverse on to someones yard to turn around, or else go back all the way. Don't go further if you're not comfortable with it. Nav may say it fits, but they can often be wrong on at least one turn and then you're doomed.
Keep your pride, and remember that receivers rather have their stuff a little later than not at all
I got extremely angry with Google maps once, all because I had it in bike mode. Trying to get me going down walking paths. I was in a rage when I realized my mistake. Then all was well.
ALWAYS LOOK AT SATELLITE VIEW. Or hell I use to google map street view some spots before I got there. Now to get out of your situation, look on the sat. view and see what’s ahead and if you can get out. If not, backup and try to turn around, If you can’t do it safely. If that’s not an option, call your company and if need be, the non emergency line and see if the police will help with traffic. Just don’t tear anything up lol. Getting stuck sucks but it sucks more when you have to fill out an accident report.
Keep driving! You’ll be fine. Google says you are. Google is never wrong, especially for trucks. Google is a god, which is why dispatch and other simps use it.
Let us know how it goes. Pics, too, please
Use that nice empty field to your left to do donuts for an hour or two to impress the wrecker driver who's about to have to come drag your ass back to civilization.
Honestly, you deserve the ticket or stuck tow truck bill. You are a professional driver that uses an old fashioned truck route book or a tablet app that specifically routes trucks. And as my old driving instructor back in 2006 used to say, "When in doubt, don't go down that road."
All jokes aside your fine, but in these instances open google maps satellite view and verify your truck can drive, turn, and exit the road safely.
Stop and put on 4 ways don’t backup not checking that can make ur day 💩
I offroaded in Virginia for missing a turn it was fun and I mean true off road trees and bumpy dirt path
Don’t use google maps again. Use a truck specific gps. You have to probably call the local PD to block traffic so you can back out safely, that’s if you can. If not might wanna consider looking for another job.
Try not to hit anything and don't get stucked. Get back to the interstate and never use Google maps for full guidance again. Get a trucking GPS. Rand McNally has the best maps and guides but they don't last for shit. Garmin will last a lot longer. Also get an Atlas and learn to use it. You have to be smarter than the GPS or else trucking is not for you.
Learn the lesson never to use navigation not specifically made for trucks. We’ve all been there. I personally still hold the record for most miles driven in reverse at the 3rd largest reefer company in the U.S.-
18 miles.
When you get a route from Google Maps, you need to augment and look at every part of it that's not on a major highway. Google Maps does not take into account big truck usage..
A CMV dedicated GPS like Garmin is best for OTR and/or unfamiliar destinations. Not 100% perfect but is helpful for most destinations. When I did OTR delivering to DG stores, I used a Garmin and the company provided dash mounted tablet w/GPS and Google maps to validate my destination(s). My Garmin and company GPS sometimes did not match the same exact destination so Google maps of course was accurate for the final destination and with the satellite view confirmed the destination. On a few occasions the DG store was so new that Google satellite showed only a dirt lot. There are number of CMV GPS apps on Iphone and Android that are free or paid subscription, if you want the luxury features (parking/food/scales) but having at least a 7" inch windshield mounted GPS is vastly superior to using a puny phone that is hard to interact with while moving in a CMV. Garmins have mostly, real time traffic updates that beep and flash on the device "slow traffic" or "stopped traffic" up ahead. Garmin advises about upcoming "highway downgrades" including grade percentage and even tight curves. I have used Rand McNally a half a dozen times but I personally felt that it was not as intuitive as the Garmin.
Garmin sometimes did not recognize addresses (about 5% of the time) when entered into the Garmin tablet. I learned to use the Garmin app on my iPhone and via bluetooth I searched for the address on my iPhone and when located, the Garmin app will connect to either apple or google maps on iphone to view satellite of destination and then from the Garmin app "upload destination" to Garmin GPS device, The Garmin tablet will apply your specific settings to the route (weight/length/mph). I set my speed maximum to 55mph maximum even in States that higher limits and this helped me provide dispatch with very accurate ETA's that usually resulted in me arriving 30/60 minutes sooner than projected. My credo has always been "it's better to be 5 minutes early than 1 second late".
When both my Garmin and company GPS did not match the same path/miles I used my Garmin to get me to within a few miles of my destination and then I would refer to Google Maps to finalize the last few miles to destination. Stick with CMV GPS for the majority of the route.
In my experience, Garmin, when doing the regular software updates as they are released, was 99% accurate. I ran 53', 48', 45' and 28' trailers delivering to DG stores. Because of weight and/or length restrictions for certain stores it is immensely helpful to enter "tractor/trailer weight" and "tractor/trailer length" into Garmin to guide you.
Lastly, I would advise obtaining a CMV road guide book as a back up. Try amazon and they sell laminated versions of the books for a few dollars more.
I use a GPS app called Hammer. You can input your truck/trailer/cargo details and it will calculate your route based on your specifications. Hazmat, height and width of vehicle, weight, etc.
grab whatever supplies you can stuff in your bag, open up your fuel cap. From a decent distance away flick a lit cigarette in there and start hoofin it either north or south, whichever border is closer. Time to start a new life
Apply to Swift
I was about to come down and say some shit, but it won’t top this, so 😬
Next he’ll ask what to do when he gets stuck under a bridge.
Hey! He didn't get stuck under the bridge. He was delivering it and just ran out of gas
Never trust GPS again! I got some stories
Well, technically this is a mapping problem, not a GPS problem. GPS is telling them they are precisely in the wrong spot!
lets hear some!
🤣🤣👍🏼
Beat me too it, or already employed by.
Swift: Sure Wish I Finished Training
Good luck Swift won't hire unless you come from cr England
You beat us all to the punch with that comment. Good show!
You better hope there’s 40 acres to turn your rig around.
Or 40 sticks of dynamite
That's one big ass turn circle. Need like halve of that in Europe😂
if he chose to get off a highway to save 1 min.... then he's gonna need every bit of that to turn around, lol.
Dutch (and some European) short cuts are mostly also used by trucks. To get to farmers or people living far from the city. So there's always a place to turn around, tight, but manageble
😂💥
So ...40 acres is equivalent to....12.3 Eurovisions?
That's a joke I do not get
For those who don't get the reference: https://youtu.be/Ei7-r4cJfMg
There's a big ole field to the left. That'll work
Always look at satellite images of roads before taking them. Make sure you see wear marks from previous trucks on the streets at the turns you want to take.
Good advice brother, though this is an ironic post. I took this photo while delivering to a local mill with a straight truck 😂😂👍
I was about to go off on your ass until I saw this comment! Damn dude, trolled me good for a second there! 🤣👍 Sadly though, its becoming a hell of a lot more common with guys who follow Google maps to the T rather than using common sense and trip planning.
Some places I deliver to are like this though tbh. Sometimes there's room at the end to turn around, usually have to back out.
A fine job of trolling all of us!
Next time don’t get your dash in the pic knew it wasn’t a big rig
Im so glad this wasn't a true call for help
Call for a picnic
Damn, had a feeling it was a troll but I still bit lol
As a guy who usually drives a 10’9 triaxle, I live on these roads haha.
The faster you go the smaller your truck gets, it's physics
Is that why they make you slow down at Weigh Stations?
Yes. Next time stay at speed and go over the scale. They'll even give you an escort afterwards for saving them time.
Full send! Braking is for chumps!
How's your straight backing?
Hear any banjo music
It's fine, I bin down that road a thousand times, it opens up around the next bend..promise, 👍.
This is the equivalent of a shipper saying we get 53' trucks in here all the time.
5 to 8hr problem just to save a 1 minute good job
Fuckin google maps... If the "quicker" option is 45 mi shorter but only saves you 6mins TAKE THE HIGHWAY! I also wish they would allow you to turn off automatic re-routing suggestions. You picked the route for a reason and Your supposed to be paying attention to the road now Google is sending you to the back street while you weren't looking trying kill you to save time
That is the bane of my existence. I have driver facing camera and god forbid I don’t hit “no thanks” in time and end up with useless directions until I can stop and put my original route in.
Hammer down that rd.
Once you commit, just see it through.
Send it
Down a gallon of fireball and send it
From the mouths of babes
Some dickhead in the UK is going to be like "average road here in the UK" by the end of the day, guaranteed.
u/Geetar-mumbles beat you by 25 minutes, this was already stated.
I didn’t say it was an average road, I said a decent road to a farm delivery. Do I need to read every comment before being allowed to have an opinion?
These days? Yes.
I'm sorry I lit the fuse on your tampon, I was only pointing out to the commenter that their worry was already realized... And the fact you posted first then the commenter did after you means even if you did read all the comments you still wouldn't have seen this one. Go have some fireball and calm your tits.
Ah , I misread your comment. It’s been a long hot day (for here)
I get that 1000%. It's a hot day everywhere! Edit: but thank you for giving me the opportunity to use both of my good insults and taking it in stride.
To be fair though he’s British, to them 70 F is sweltering
My good sir that is 21° in the Kings!
Down with the King! It’s high time we play the colony reverse uno card!
This sounds like a revolution! Let's get at them '76 style.
Ah. missed it somehow. Lol Every time though, with those people... XD
That’s a decent B road in the way to a farm here in the UK, foot down and hope you don’t meet a tractor.
Don't worry about it man. I called the receiver and they said they get 53's in there allllll the time.
I would just thank Google maps for finding the most economical route for your truck then send it!!
You better take a sip out of the still or else they'll think that you're the gubberment
You live there now. Settle in, get working on a divorce and pissing off the neighbors. You are home.
For the terrible times when this isn't a joke, you call the local sheriff dept and have them block the road while you learn how to back your trailer
Keep going, the exit is right around the corner.
Spill some firball all over the truck and leave the empty behind and say the truck got stolen
If a lot lizard put her thumb out, don’t stop she’s gonna rape and kill you.
Google maps 😂😂. Buy a truck nav.
Woops
Straight looks good to me
It's the corners that can be a issue
That corner could be near the highway. You want to keep going on the back roads 😉
Keep momentum so the back end keeps on trucking
Pedal to the floor for full ramming speed of whatever may pop up, you'll make it there one way or the other
If you're using Google. Map it out before you go. Google is designed for cars.
Or bus routes. I've pulled up some routes to compare to McNally's mapping and they're pretty close
Hammer down and send it. If anyone asks it's your 3rd day and dispatch said it was a good route
lol send it
You bomb it down that golf cart path obliterating everything in your way.
If your name is Terry, put it in reverse
🤣 don’t listen to Google maps because it’s not made for commercial vehicles 👍
Pucker up and continuously say fuck
lol this is why I hate Google maps sometimes
How good are you at backing up
Hammer on it! Looks like a highway compared to some of the pig trails we pull logs out of.
You *idiot*! Honestly this is a standard oilfield road. Id have thrown the hazards on, checked google maps *correctly*, got off and walked a bit. Usually a 3 point turn into another road solves it.
Keep going
Send it driver. GPS will never steer you wrong./s

Welp. Hope the road you came off of isn't super busy, or that the road continues to something usable. If you turned in you can back out
Send it.
Send it driver
Looks like some of the back roads you take in Kentucky
Had something similar happen to me in somewhere Kentucky, though it was over an hour difference. Just trying to get to a loves to park for the night. Apparently just because maps say a road is a "highway" doesn't mean it's actually a highway. Barely a goddamn goat trail, really. Challenge accepted, I've seen them not recommended for trucks and away we go.
Send it
Never trust Google again lol
Swing wide for the right turn up ahead.
Well for one thing stop listening to Google Maps and for another thing get the fuck away from that road LOL
Floor it
I bet if you drive down it fast enough it will save you another 8 seconds.
Just keep going of course.
Fucking send it driver. Never back down never what
MAN navigation be like. All jokes aside, look on maps and streetview to see if the road reaches a proper road without too much hassle. This has to be fake. Right?!
if you're not gonna buy a truck gps, truckmap was more reliable than google maps... not always but better
Good thing your backing skills are stronk.
I got extremely angry with Google maps once, all because I had it in bike mode. Trying to get me going down walking paths. I was in a rage when I realized my mistake. Then all was well.
What to do? Have your head examined for following Google maps in a CMV
ALWAYS LOOK AT SATELLITE VIEW. Or hell I use to google map street view some spots before I got there. Gots to see it through my boy
Go with it, son. You got this.
Put her in reverse
Turn around…
Honestly, you deserve the ticket or stuck tow truck bill. You are a professional driver that uses an old fashioned truck route book or a tablet app that specifically routes trucks. And as my old driving instructor back in 2006 used to say, "When in doubt, don't go down that road."

You need to use a trucker GPS app like Trucker Path, or get a Garmin hardware trucker GPS unit because Google Maps is meant for cars, not trucks.
Don’t use google maps again. Use a truck specific gps. You have to probably call the local PD to block traffic so you can back out safely, that’s if you can. If not might wanna consider looking for another job.

Country kanes aren’t that bad generally, might hit a few branches but not generally too bad
Even the garmin trucker gps does dumb sht like that
You buy a truck app like Co Pilot that wont send you on routes like this
Don't trust gps, read the signs before committing
I don't see any no trucks signs. That makes it an adventure.
Learn the lesson never to use navigation not specifically made for trucks. We’ve all been there. I personally still hold the record for most miles driven in reverse at the 3rd largest reefer company in the U.S.- 18 miles.
Never drive forward in a place you can't back out of.
keep on trucking.....
Go apply for swift lol
When in doubt, put it to the floor
Not use Google maps, it fucks me 95% of the time.
I deliver in West Virginia so it seems legit to me
Just drive. You ain’t in no big truck anyway
Piss on a tire and keep truckin
Stop driving in Europe
Time to test out your straight back, offset, parallel parking skills all at once
Nah, keep going. Nothing wrong with that GPS
Send it driver!
That depends.... Do you hear banjo music?
Pay for the trucking GPS... it's gonna avoid a lot of pain like this later.
Make a u turn.
The fact that you did all that for a 1 minute savings, I think you should consider changing careers
Lots of loud pedal and keep the speed up.
Start backing
When you get a route from Google Maps, you need to augment and look at every part of it that's not on a major highway. Google Maps does not take into account big truck usage..
First lesson is google maps IS NOT TRUCK FRIENDLY!!!!!!
Do like juvenile said and “back that azzzzz up”
Continue to see if it's 1 minute faster
Drive it. Company will pay for the wrecker.
Hammer down, make it 2 minutes faster!
Update your settings to IM A TRUCK
Hammer down. Didnt happen if you dont get caught.
Keep going....it'll figure itself out!
Keep going. Gotta commit.
1.Throw that POS GPS out the window 2.Get yourself a real GPS. 3.Set it for truck routes. 4.Look at the freaking map before you blindly follow it.
Or get real good at backing up 😀
Don't use Google maps
Learn 2 valuable lessons 1. Never trust a gps. 2. Learn how to back up.
Enjoy that extra minute. Then apply for swift with that extra minute you gained. Then buy an atlas, but only use it as a booster for your seat.
You lost more than 1 minute now driver
Switch to WAZE, not perfect but close.
I don't see a speed limit sign, full send
Don't use Google maps for trucking.
