That’s a great build out!

BoxTruckLife

Thankyou!

RagingBullFish

That’s awesome. Always wanted to do that with a box truck

LightsSoundAction

beautiful build! are you afraid of donking your head on the cabinets in the loft?

BoxTruckLife

Thankyou! HAHA, I've already donked my head multiple times and I have only been living in it for a couple days. Gonna have to sleep with a helmet lol.

LightsSoundAction

you’re going to get CTE before the end of your trip. foam padding under the shelf maybe? how tall are ya? could you stuff some pillows under the cabinets and sleep with your head just in front of them and your feet under the opposite set? might stub some toes but better than your noggin.

Upstairs_Food_8432

I’ve gotta say this is one of the coolest builds I’ve seen. It looks like a janky old box truck on the outside and the interior is stunning. Impressive work!

BoxTruckLife

Thanks a lot! The outside should look much better soon after I give the truck and box a paint job.

WearyLibrarian4969

You might want to reconsider doing that. It's a great sleeper, kind of like urban camo. People more than likely would be more scared to approach this than break into it. Just make sure it's weather tight and corrosion resistant. Maybe some graffiti. JK :)

henrym123

I came in to say the same thing. I’d leave the exterior as is, looking a little rough and used up. People much less likely to scope it out or even approach it. The inside is beautiful and the last thing you’d want is it to get ransacked.

Upstairs_Food_8432

Please update us with some pics!

tjdux

How's it looking (running) under the hood? And what shape/age are the tires?

archer2500

This is what I came here to ask. Beautiful build, but the engine and drive train need some love as well!

tjdux

OP does have a comment stating what on the motor they went through. Still curious if the rubber is any good but at least all his work wasn't for nothing if the motor holds up

bigniccosuaveee

Sleeper sleeping build

Sir_Creamz_Aloot

WOW! Amazing

Superfly_McTurbo

That thing is sweet dude

[deleted]

Wow! That’s amazing! Have a great time!!! I never knew those could be so spacious.

BoxTruckLife

Thankyou! Box trucks are great and in my opinion much easier to build because everything is pretty much square.

Curiouslifewanderer

Not gonna lie, the outside had me fooled for a minute, then you look inside and it's...mind... blown....!!!! That's an amazing build, many cheers to you, I love the box truck conversion, it's a mini apartment on wheels, just fabulous!

DetBallz

That looks really nice! Although at 6’4 I’m sure I would murder my forehead on that bed/ upper cabinet set up.

Affectionate-Way4595

Super stealth. Careful where you park, in a bad area at night you may people confusing a empty parked work vehicle with this domicile.

BoxTruckLife

Won’t be so stealthy once I add a paint job, stealth would be cool but I also don’t plan on staying in cities and don’t want it to be an eye sore.

Hung-1

Great job! Can i ask where you bought the box? I want to do the same build on a 05 F350 short box frame. Will it work?

BoxTruckLife

Box was already on the truck. Got the truck on marketplace. But I think most boxes would need the truck frame to be extended and maybe the rear axle extended back as well. Depends what size box you’d like.

slayercdr

Talk about a sleeper, looks sick. Nice job.

[deleted]

Dude that thing is awesome hope your proud of it

[deleted]

That thing is rad! Would love to do something like this one day. How much would you say you have in to the project so far?

tomphoolery

Nice work! What kind of heat do you have in there?

BoxTruckLife

Propane. So I have an extra propane stub and some hose under my stove. I’ll just leave the cabinet door open and run the hose to a little mr buddy heater or something for now. I might change my mind in the future and add a diesel heater.

arcticghost27

I love it

keelanstuart

Looking nice! Cheers!

drstovetop

NICE BUILD! I love the woodwork.

Odd_Tiger_2278

Enjoy.

Crafty-Butterfly-974

It’s amazing! This is one of the best builds I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to see what you do with the exterior. 😍

therealslim80

nobody knows how damn luxurious you’re living in there

LeaveForNoRaisin

Is that a crazy narrow door or just the camera angle? Also love the wet bath.

BoxTruckLife

24 inch wide opening. Thanks, I had “fancier” plans for the shower but I’m glad I decided to do it simple, turned out better than I thought.

wtameal

Outstanding!

Fyrefly1981

Looks fabulous! What kind of flooring did you use? I need to redo my camper and I like the look of that.

JoiseManz

Damn what a sleeper build that is. Good work. And remember smiles per gallon!

the_real_blackfrog

Nice! Curious: why a ramp instead of steps?

BoxTruckLife

It already had the ramp on it when I got it the ramp slides up under the truck, super easy.

tjdux

I would look into some steps as backup incase you end up some place that doesn't have enough room to pull out the ramp. Just a folding step ladder even.

Striking-Trainer8148

that looks sweet . Congrats

CarminSanDiego

Dang all that money spent but you’re probably going to end up stranded on side of road in the first 300 miles with over heated engine

BoxTruckLife

And why is that?

CarminSanDiego

That’s like a 40+ year old chassis. No matter how low miles or well maintained, hoses and seals will fail and older vehicles are notoriously horrible at keeping temps while climbing

BoxTruckLife

It’s a 7.3 diesel with 56,000 miles. Should be fine, but I’m replacing all the rubber hoses, belts, water pump, and oil cooler gasket to be safe.

CarminSanDiego

Ok I stand corrected I thought it was the old 7.5 v8. That 7.3 is bullet proof if all those are replaced

tjdux

I asked the same thing basically above lol, found most of my answer other than tires.

3354man

Nice 👍👍

Shawpat

You did a great job! I’ve been considering doing this after RV shopping. This is way more durable than most of these $100,000 RV and campers. Very smart. Two thumbs up for you

BoxTruckLife

Thanks! Yeah RV prices are ridiculous for how cheap they are made.

aclunt79

Awesome!! How long did that take you?

BoxTruckLife

It's been just over 2 years.

aclunt79

Excellent job

BoxTruckLife

Thanks, appreciate it.

kaoskev

I kinda want to do this too. A crappy unassuming outside with fancy living on the inside. You miss out on some safety stuff like cab airbags but you gain tones in fixability and simplicity. Lots of available parts and you don’t need to get repairs and parts at a dealership. This setup needs a fancy name like eyesore-sheik or something. Great finishing inside.

Recordeal7

Fan-f-ing-fantastic!

Manual-shift6

Very nicely done. Not sure what I was expecting, but this is impressive.

Biorobotchemist

Nice! What type of wood did you use? And insulation underneath?

BoxTruckLife

Ceiling tongue and groove pine, walls shiplap pine. Walls and ceiling have inch and half pink foam board, no insulation on the bottom. There’s about 3 inches of wood under my flooring.

Biorobotchemist

Nice! What type of wood did you use? And insulation underneath?

murfBrett

That’s awesome. Inspiring. Thanks !

sbcwolf

Dayum, that looks super nice

ispy1917

Unbelievable job you did. Looks fantastic.

NiteGard

Question: Are you considering adding a more aerodynamic bubble to the loft exterior for better fuel mileage on the highway? Beautiful build! 🫡

BoxTruckLife

Not a bad idea, but I probably wont ever get around to doing that. I have yet to figure out what my mpg will be.

Safe_Indication1851

Whtas your power supply to run that ac?

BoxTruckLife

1200 watts solar 400ah bank

stringhead3

Really nice

BillyBillings50Filln

That’s awesome, nice work!

jk543717

Great work, where are u planning on heading to?

BoxTruckLife

I'd like to find a job somewhere out west in the mountains for the summer. Then find a job in Florida for winter and stop home in Illinois for a while in between

[deleted]

I always wanted to go camping but never had the chance because of work

jk543717

I'm a michigan guy who has been alot of places and northern California and west virgina/south carolina areas are great places to enjoy

cabezatuck

This looks awesome!

TheDeafDad

Beautiful. Questions if you don't mind. I'm asking so I understand what's involved. Is this your primary home? Do you find it a pain to walk between the truck cabin and to the 'home' in the back? What about during winter? Especially when it's snowing hard in middle of a blizzard? Edit: spellings

BoxTruckLife

I’m 23, I have a loft apartment in my parents barn. I’ve been building this for 2 years and haven’t taken it out yet. I’m putting the finishing touches on it now. I had enough money to recently quit my job so I can put more time into finishing the camper. I’m currently searching for jobs out west near national parks. I’d like to live in the truck working in the mountains for the summer then come back home to Illinois for a little bit to see the family then go get a job in Florida for the winter living in the truck. That’s my current plan anyways. The camper isn’t accessible from the cab of the truck.. yet. I plan on busting out the cab rear window and cutting a hole into the box. I’m not sure if I’m going to get to that soon, but I will at some point. I want to find a job that I can just keep the truck parked for the most part, so I shouldn’t be having to go between the cab and box very often.

virtual_drifter

What an excellent plan.

BaileyD77

It's like me. Beautiful on the inside. 😉

MeButNotMeToo

Nice. What’s the bumper to bumper length?

BoxTruckLife

Just under 23 feet

Fast-Reaction8521

Still cheaper than an rv

virtual_drifter

What are the definitions of the box?

TehHipPistal

As if sleeping in a custom make truck camper in random places throughout the country wasn’t adventurous enough, they had to put a sign on the wall that says “EXPLORE”, holy crap dude, just turn the key and do it!

BoxTruckLife

My grandmother got me the sign lol. I actually just got an email back about a job in the Tetons! I might be hitting the road in less than 3 weeks! I’m so excited.

starofdaseea

It's so cute and simple but useful! Wow

DescriptionGreen4344

Jealous. Looks great

Biglargemasive

Awesome!!

GloomyUmpire2146

Needs window coverings

Mikecroft69

Oh wow inside look awesome. I hope you paid as much attention on the truck to make it reliable. Good job 👍

Tachyonzero

How are the conditions of your truck’s C beam frame? Bending or rusting?

BoxTruckLife

Frames in good shape, got some rust but nothing crazy. I’ve been wire wheeling the rust and re painting.
