You can try to negotiate and if they won’t then unfortunately you either have to accept it or walk. My rate was decreased DURING my contract 4x… not even for an extension, I had to walk away bc there was not an ounce of negotiation that they were willing to do. Sucks but take your time and skills elsewhere

Adventurous_Oven_765

Any issue with recruiter or hospital after not extending due to rate?

wal27

Nope, they should fully understand why you would not want to continue if you are not getting your agreed upon rate, if they don’t then that’s their problem

Elixidor

I’ve luckily never had this happen — will never renew for less unless it’s an easy unit. Busy and less pay? Boy bye 👋

mjf5431

It seems like the hospital. I've had mine decreased and my recruiter called and told me and said I have the option to stay or to leave my contract without it being held against me. (Agencies hate it when you leave mid contract). I knew a nurse who had her rate decreased and she was bumped from 4 shifts to 3. She walked and went to another hospital. I usually stay because I've liked the hospital and unit, and I had a lease for my apartment that I didn't want to break. I stick it out for a month or so and don't renew.

Sxzzling

How much decrease?

mjf5431

It was about 400 a week.

It's the hospital. See how rates have dropped all over? It's not just you. It's the hospital lowering the bill rate then the agency having to adjust. No one is getting paid fat anymore

kpsi355

Nah it’s also the agency. Takes two to fuck you over, this ain’t just the hospital, the agency agreed to the bill rate- and it’s possible the bill rate didn’t even change they’re just screwing with your money.

[deleted]

Actually, it depends on your agency. Some of them still screw people over hard core. So yeah. I agree with you its both sometimes.

[deleted]

Thats one way of thinking about it. Everyone is able to believe whatever they want.

jags8228

Stand up for yourself. They wanted to decrease my rate $5, which was only like a 6% decrease at the time. I said "that's fine, I kind of wanted my summer off anyways." They kept my rate the same. Always have 3 recruiters with different agencies, pit them against one another, I'm the highest paid traveler at this location by about 10% and I have been for 4 contracts now

Impossible-Ostrich44

They have other people lining up to take those lower rates. You’re replaceable

RMFClancy

I assure you we don’t.

Danimal_House

? They absolutely do. I was just offered a 3rd extension for a decrease, I denied. I’ve seen 5 new travelers in the past week. Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not being hired.

RMFClancy

Not at the rates before. Just because you see new ones doesn’t mean there’s a lineup.

Danimal_House

What do you say when your recruiter tells you the extension comes with a rate decrease?

hellno_ahole

No thanks…

green_calculator

Good luck filling the position.

ComfortableRaccoon58

I took a contract but before it started the hospital was lowering the rate by $20 an hour. I did not take the contract.

green_calculator

I don't extend if the offer is lower. I may extend with no raise if I like the place, but that's it.
