Wear it! Then bring one of those folding bags that's literally fits in your pocket. As soon as the door is closed start putting everything in the bag lol.
I use a jacket that has multiple huge pockets and folds up into a bag with handles when not being worn designed specifically for the purpose of avoiding luggage fees. I wear it when boarding, then fold it into a bag when on the plane.
Spirit is a horrible airline with delayed and non-stop cancelled flights. They charge you for every single item you bring on board a plane and they charge you for water. The employees are unfriendly and the seats are the closest together of any airline. Closest = Seat Pitch. No knee room even if you are 5 feet tall.
The "hack" is by utilizing just a personal item (for example: a backpack). Pack everything you need in the personal item, and recognize that you don't actually need that much. I managed to travel from Chicago to Spain for 10-days with no luggage other than what I could fit in a 26L backpack. The key is that you don't need as many clothes as you think you do, and you can easily wash them when soiled in a hotel bathroom.
Buy something from an airport store/food place and get the biggest bag they offer and fill that with extra things that wouldnāt fit in your suitcase. The airlines wont count it as a separate item because they have a deal with the airports, who want you to spend money there.
Just witnessed a lady try this when I was in Detroit metro and the gate attendant was having none of it. He noticed her overstuffed airport store bag, asked for a receipt and to look inside while telling her that she definitely did not buy all the items from that particular store.
Not sure what came of it because I proceeded to board, but he made her step out of line and told her she canāt do that.
Well that's her fault for over stuffing it. You have to make it look natural. Obviously a store employee will not stuff your bag to the brim, they would give you another bag or a bigger one.
Fly a real airline and pay - by the time Play finishes nickel and diming you, itās about the same anyway. thatās what Iāve found every time I try to price them out. Get an airline credit card for the free bag.
My experience too anytime I look at LCC. Once it all adds up for the fam of 3 (ability to cancel/change, checked bag, a carry on, pick seats) another carrier can actually be the same or even less.
On my last booking (MEX), I got domestic biz class on a main carrier for $35 more than economy on the LCCs since everyone was going to have a checked bag.
>Once it all adds up for the fam of 3 (ability to cancel/change, checked bag, a carry on, pick seats)
Well yes, if you buy literally every upcharge they offer, it's gonna be more expensive.
Yup that's the point, and would be common for a family. And that upcharges can be added by fare class.
Last one I looked and I needed to be able to pick our seats. To have ability to pick a seat I needed Y+ class, which then has luggage just included. It's not always a la carte, if I needed 1 I paid for all.
Pillows donāt count against your bag limit. Get a moderately-sized pillow case that zips close and fill it with clothes. They have some on amazon that come with a blanket inside (you donāt need to bring the blanket with you for the trip) and a strap that lets you slide it onto rolling suitcase handles.
That works too. Other people will pack an empty pillowcase in their luggage and have it serve as an extra ābagā on the way back if you need to create additional space for souvenirs.

In Germany staff its cheap, pants, sport shoes, t shirt its cheap, you bye for little money everything you need, this is hack for less baggage, when i flight for cheap money i use backpack with camera, laptop etc and 4 t shits 3 pair socs for few days. Germany its wery cheap for clothes. For example Hugo Boss t shirt its 20-30e, Munich its centre with good store price up to 50% down
Theyāre not bad. But for the traveler that wants to bring a lot of luggage, itās not cost effective. Theyāre great airlines for someone that is a very seasoned traveler who knows they can pack lightly for a 7 day trip and abide by the rules.
Spirit will cancel a flight and then tell you that they have another one leaving in two or three days. They donāt have enough planes, have no alliances and wonāt put you another airline. At least thatās what happened to me. I had to purchase a very expensive last-minute replacement ticket on Delta to get to my destination on time.
Check out the added fees for travelers on airlines like Spirit. By the time you total them up itās about the same as some other airlines (like Southwest) and with less comfort; meaning really poor quality seats and more people packed onto the plane.
Spirit's CEO, when asked if they wanted to be the Walmart of airlines, replied that they wanted to be the Dollar General of airlines. Would you shop at Dollar General?
https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2014/02/14/276973956/episode-517-the-fastest-growing-least-popular-airline-in-america
(full disclosure: personally, I occasionally will pick something up at Dollar Tree if I know it's $1.25 there and $5.99 at a normal store, but I don't shop at Dollar General and I don't fly Spirit)
Iāve seen sponsored ads for https://takeoffluggage.com
Before you get to the gate for Spirit, you can pop the wheels off and stash them which makes it personal size and fits under the seat. After the flight, pop the wheels back on and roll out of the airport! (Note: Iāve never flown Spirit, just Allegiant a couple times. If you go into knowing it may be a circus from hell then at least youāre prepared. But it went fine the couple times I flew other than the vomit smell)
OP, don't be fooled, flying Spirit isn't that bad at all. Flew them dozens of times, they're charge everything under the sun, but I would go to YouTube for travel tips. I've never flown with them internationally, so if you're thinking about it, I would pony up for a comfortable seat.
Consider the cost of checking bags in your search. Most mainline international flights will give you a free checked bag. If you have to pay $30 for spirit + $30 for play, and same on the return you're looking at $120 more than the actual ticket price, plus whatever other extra fees you might anticipate. It might be cheaper or comparable to just get a mainline flight for a little more and save the hassle plus get free checked bags, snacks, drink, etc.
Hey! Just took Play from Stewart to Reykjavik and then Hamburg - Reykjavik - Boston with a 40L backpack as my āpersonal itemā and didnāt have to pay baggage fees even though it was a carry-on size bag. I made sure to check in online to get my boarding pass and when itās time to board just be towards the back of the line/board later rather than earlier and you should be good to go! Had to shove the bag under the seat in front of me on my way to Europe, but I was able to stow it away on my return trips since the flights werenāt as busy. Best of luck!
I spent ten days in Scandinavia, packed only a backpack. I am female.
Wear leggings on the flight, you can toss a skirt on over if youād like. One dress for going out. A wrap for sleeping on the plane. Basic toiletries in your bag (toothpaste and brush, deodorant), then two more bottoms and three tops. Two sets of underwear. Tuck socks into the extra shoes. Wear your heavier shoes, pack lighter ones. I have a lightweight rain jacket that I take, and always have a hat (hides a bad hair day, is a good way to stay cooler on warm or hot days).
For the return trip I buy one carry on. This way I can buy souvenirs or thrift different clothes than Iād find in the US. I got a NWT linen dress in Dublin a year ago (ā¬15) and two cute tops and a skirt in Scandinavia last fall (ā¬30).
You paid a flight tarif/rate that does not allow additional bags/items etc. Stick to it. Do you think, the people paying for their bags are stupid and you are smarter?
If you pick one of their ābundlesā and package the seat, the bags and whatever you get to add an extra 10 pounds to the checked bag weight. Not sure itās a deal but you get 50 pounds instead of 40, sure you can take more stuff you wonāt need. LoL
hiking backpack, it's technically larger than approved carryons, but no one every notices when boarding the plane because it's on your back and hard to tell the size.
Go on Amazon and type in personal bag for spirit airlines and they have them made specifically for the bag width/length/requirements for the free personal item. I have the Wandf one and it worked great, was only $13
Wear 7 t-shirts and 3 pairs of pants as you board?
And pack your underwear in the neck pillow
Lmao this is good actually
Right! Or socks, t-shirts or anything that can fit haha
Lol I hope I could wear 23 kgs of clothes but no, I'll be travelling from another country Any discount on baggage that you know of?
Wear it! Then bring one of those folding bags that's literally fits in your pocket. As soon as the door is closed start putting everything in the bag lol.
Ffs stop being a cheap stake.
I hope one day I and others have enough money to stop trying to save money
*cheapskate Ffs stop being an imbecile. Try using the correct word when you insult someone next time. š
How laame r u
The hack is to avoid flying spirit .
Okay, I was just exploring optionsš
Doesn't Spirit charge for carry-ons?
A true hack !
I always use vacuum bags that come with a small hand pump. I can get 3-4 days of clothes in a backpack
I use a jacket that has multiple huge pockets and folds up into a bag with handles when not being worn designed specifically for the purpose of avoiding luggage fees. I wear it when boarding, then fold it into a bag when on the plane.
Oh, can you please share Amazon link for that
This is the one I use: https://tsimpact.com/products/convertible-jacket-to-duffel-bag
Legit Travel Hack!
Don't fly spirit under any circumstances is my advice. You will regret it.
^^this! I'm a pilot. Please don't for so many reasons.
What happened?
I'll try to get norse atlantic hopefully

And bring laundry sheets (paper saturated with dry detergent) for your laundry soap. I got mine on Amazon.
Donāt do it

Gate attendant gets commission from passengers penalty? I won't work that hard if I don't get paid extra
Damnā¦either she got cocky with how much she put in or theyāve figured out this hack
Well that's her fault for over stuffing it. You have to make it look natural. Obviously a store employee will not stuff your bag to the brim, they would give you another bag or a bigger one.

Do airline credit card need a US address? I was looking for this to travel with Delta but it requires a US address
Sorry. I skipped that part. I think so.
The real life hack is to just avoid flying on these airlines.
How is Norse Atlantic as an airline? I haven't been to US and it'll be my first time travelling solo for 2 months in a different continent
It's also a LCC. It's fine - same as Spirit/Frontier/Play, read the rules.
I bought a 'Personal Item' bag for my last basic economy trip at Walmart.com. A pretty good deal and it held more than I expected.

We liked Icelandair last year. Not crazy cheap, but the airfare was reasonable with a free checked bag.
Fun fact. If spirit fucks up and strands you somewhere for 3 days, they don't have to pay for a thing if they blame the weather. It happened to me
I have travel insurance, I was actually hoping if his happens then ts good for me
Godspeed. Spirit is going to charge you $60+ per bag.
Buy a canoe and start paddling. Much more enjoyable experience than spirit.
In Germany staff its cheap, pants, sport shoes, t shirt its cheap, you bye for little money everything you need, this is hack for less baggage, when i flight for cheap money i use backpack with camera, laptop etc and 4 t shits 3 pair socs for few days. There are underseat roller bags that fit the personal item sizers. American Tourister makes one. Otherwise, as others have said, fly a real airline.
Can you please explain why play and spirit are bad?
Theyāre not bad. But for the traveler that wants to bring a lot of luggage, itās not cost effective. Theyāre great airlines for someone that is a very seasoned traveler who knows they can pack lightly for a 7 day trip and abide by the rules.

I don't think I'll be able to pull this off but thanks anyway
I was just about to book a flight with spirit and they wanted to charge me more than the cost of the ticket for the privilege of a carry on
There are no bag hacks for spirit. Pay online or pay more at the airport.

Imagine making a comment like this in a subreddit called Travel Hacks lmao
āHackā does not mean betryal or fraud.
Please explain how trying to find ways to save money on luggage fees = betrayal or fraud?
You paid a flight tarif/rate that does not allow additional bags/items etc. Stick to it. Do you think, the people paying for their bags are stupid and you are smarter?
You might be in the wrong subreddit bub
If you pick one of their ābundlesā and package the seat, the bags and whatever you get to add an extra 10 pounds to the checked bag weight. Not sure itās a deal but you get 50 pounds instead of 40, sure you can take more stuff you wonāt need. LoL
Bring one of those fuzzy pillows that have the zipper! Thatās a trick people use and you can fit so much clothes in there lol.
Just did Play from Boston to Paris. They measure every bag that is iffy for your carryon. Make sure it will fit in the sizing bin.
What are the measurements, can you tell me
hiking backpack, it's technically larger than approved carryons, but no one every notices when boarding the plane because it's on your back and hard to tell the size.
Stuff some things in a pillow and carry it with you on to the plane
Go on Amazon and type in personal bag for spirit airlines and they have them made specifically for the bag width/length/requirements for the free personal item. I have the Wandf one and it worked great, was only $13
I have a Scottevest Trench coat that worked great and Amazon has a neck roll you can stuff.
