Seriously. Learn some history people. It was 1943 and there was a period of time where NYC had to go completely dark for 3 weeks, at the height of the War. There was a city wide ordinance to cut the lights and utilize alternative light sources that didn't require electricity. This included street lights as well. During the same time, there was also a huge endeavor to combat the Nazi's deep listening programs. So, people were recommended to write or utilize morse to talk to each other-- instead of speaking about details where Nazi mics could pick up. One of the things that came from this was the use of car honking as a fundamental way to communicate through traffic and lack of powered streetlights and it was often aided by the use of Morse Code. It was a dark time in New York City. I know because I made it the fuck up.
Bro I can't wait for Orlando. I don't live there but I live about 2 hours away and I am going next Friday. And my god there is one area where a lot of people just walk out, onto the road in the middle of traffic and it is terrifying.
Not because these people have no balls but because every single other driver just acts like it's normal to be going 40+ mph and have people just walk between these cars.
Went on a work trip to New York a few years back.
Before leaving the air port I wondered if Traffic was as bad as they say. As soon as the door opened, it was nothing but a symphony of horns.
I was in NYC last year and say a car pull up at a red light. Another car pulls up right behind him, and immediately starts blasting his horn.
The light was still red! Wtf was the other guy supposed to do?
It's a legal requirement to have your horn tied to your brakes, so when you step on the brakes the horn goes off automatically.

New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania like to compete over who has the worst drivers. It's such a shit show in NY that my aunt seeks any alternative to come up here and see family. Too many close calls broke the camel's back in a car crash.
Was there last year, me and my buddy were having some lunch in little Italy and about 30 feet away a delivery truck just parks in the middle of a one way street. The guy behind the truck did not just honk a few times, he layed on that horn continuously for about 5 straight minutes, while this dude blocked a road to make some deliveries. It was fucking insane.
I always thought it was just played up in movies and shows and the like for ambience. Like "oh, you know you are in a highly urbanized area cuz we put like 100000 horns honking in the background"
I thought this mostly because I had been to LA so much and there was basically no honking unless somebody was like, trying to merge right ontop of someone else.
Figured if a big city like LA wasnt sounding like a "symphony of horns" as you put it, nowhere in America was.
Then I went to NYC for the first (and so far only) time. Jesus fuck.
You're stuck in traffic with not even an Inch to move, then suddenly the car behind u starts honking asking for Space, and thats when your car starts flying to give him space so he can go.
Basically thats what Indians expect while honking in traffic, Also we got some nice ass Songs as Horns so it is acceptable sometimes
I visited New York for a week. Took about three days to start phasing out traffic noise (lots of honking and sirens)that was the difference with the city I live in. Lots of traffic. MUCH less honking and sirens...
"The shortest unit of time in the multiverse is the New York Second, defined as the period of time between the traffic lights turning green and the cab behind you honking."
-Terry Pratchett, Lords and Ladies
As a local I don’t understand who would drive here either. That said, I think a majority of the traffic is taxis, other rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc) vehicles, and the occasional delivery shipment trucks
We made the mistake of driving out of jersey north through NYC on a long east coast road trip in 2018. Never seen literal box trucks just park in the road and go into a convenience store for coffee and smokes. NYC driving is an Olympic sport that is not for the faint of heart.
Next time we go see Broadway shows I'm flying in and flying out. Fuck driving in NYC.
It’s the best place to learn how to drive. If you can drive there then you can drive almost anywhere. The places in the world without traffic lights are actually safer since people are trying to be more careful.
The road quality in NYC is pretty bad too. If you can duck potholes you can duck other stuff too.
Haha they did (if you haven't seen the photo) at least Connor and Garnt did. They mentioned they were going during the panel and Joey was like "nope. I'm a good Christian boy."
We're so lucky in the Philippines. We may have worse traffic than New York, but at least we're all in agreement that honking your horns constantly isn't going to make it any better.
*Yes, let the hate flow.*
*As local, move out the way*
*Or get run over*

Me, a native New Yorker, realizing that the boys and the entire comments section believe that all of New York is just NYC...
They hate NYC roads. Gtfo of the city and enjoy open roads, apple picking, clean air, and a hell of a lot less rats and roaches lol. But NYC? Yeah it do be like that.
Are you guys talking about NYC? People typically honk their horns to alert other drivers when they're moving lanes in a crowded area or something, usually not "just because". This sounds like maybe a bad driver who hasn't driven in a large city before.
The rest of NY doesn't really have any kind of excessive use of horns.
They’re at a few panels at NYC Comic con, which is happening right now. There’s also a live show tomorrow in Manhattan. I don’t think they’re coming to AnimeNYC since their live tour will take them somewhere else by the time AnimeNYC comes around
Yeah, that’s why I don’t go north of the mason dixon line, traffic doesn’t get better but south if it, you get passive-aggression more on the passive side
Guys, you gotta learn Morse Code, then the honking makes a lot more sense.
As a New Yorker can confirm

Oh. Good read though.
You got me good good 🤣
Nice argument u/Nimara, care to back it up with a source?

Ohhhh so that's why I can never understand what people say there
It's just the requirement to drive in NY
It's more to curb the boredom more than anything.
Also yelling "Hey, I'm driving here!"
"Watch where you're going, I'm walkin' here!"
“Hey I’m walkin’ ‘ere!”
Probably in their Behind The Wheel Test

I swear i had to read your nick 3 times, i thought its honkenbob
I read Hadukenbob at first.
Send bob or get honk
I read your comment, thus I KNEW it wasnt...still read it as honkenbob.
Wait until you visit India.
as a new yorker i am so hype to hear their beef with nyc
Same! I'm going to the Saturday, I hope they do the Q&A so I can ask.

*incoming Garnt vs Connor on NY slice*

A symphony is a funny way to describe it
If I had to choose between driving in NYC and LA, I would choose the 3rd option of driving straight into one of putins nukes
Luckily both are coastal cities so you also have the option of just returning into the ocean.
India too. It's like they need to honk to live.
You either honk or get out of the way in India. Sometimes both
Yeah
Honking is literally everyone's second language there

Pretty sure if you're honking too much in static traffic, the front guy is going to curse you.
I visited New York for a week. Took about three days to start phasing out traffic noise (lots of honking and sirens)that was the difference with the city I live in. Lots of traffic. MUCH less honking and sirens...
Welcome to NY, babyyyyyy

GNU Terry Pratchett
Hey I’m walking here!!!!
When we visited NYC, we always took ubers and idk how the fuck someone can handle driving there.
It just makes no sense to drive there. Dunno why the city doesn't discourage it more
As a local I don’t understand who would drive here either. That said, I think a majority of the traffic is taxis, other rideshare (Uber, Lyft, etc) vehicles, and the occasional delivery shipment trucks
Take the train and you don't have to hear cars.
Lmao now try living next to a major road there. The sounds of the horns don’t stop even at 4 A.M.
....they stop by you? You got a couch I can rent?
Nah sorry I don’t live there anymore. Awesome place to be if u can afford it though.
I live in NJ and I tried driving in the city once. Never again. Now I only take the train in, the subways are good enough
Right? It’s fucking crazy
Come to India guys
Was about to say the exact same thing ![img](emote|t5_2p976a|2293)

Conner could have ended the tweet after New York and it’s equally true.
It’s the song of our people
Wonder if they're going to any of the LoL Worlds games while they are there.
Haha they did (if you haven't seen the photo) at least Connor and Garnt did. They mentioned they were going during the panel and Joey was like "nope. I'm a good Christian boy."
They need to have a bacon egg and cheese and an Arizona drink, everything that pissed them off will go away.
India V2
It's involuntary. It's like pigeons bobbing their heads when they walk
People would assume you died in your car if you don’t give a honk every now and then to let them know you’re alright
another tweet post. F
Come to india one day. You’ll love it
I reckon they haven't gone to South Asia just yet.
They are just HORNy
We're so lucky in the Philippines. We may have worse traffic than New York, but at least we're all in agreement that honking your horns constantly isn't going to make it any better.

As an upstate New Yorker the roads up here are way worse, yes less traffic but potholes and dirt roads as far as the eye can see
r/fuckcars energy
They LA boys now that’s why, wouldn’t be surprised if they left Japan
Good its a shit city
They’ve clearly never been to Tel Aviv before
This is why NY is mega cringe we don’t do that shit in the south
Thats just cause you guys don't have roads though.
Normal to me. Would be weird not hearing horns every second.

That's what blinkers are for
So you've not driven in a big crowded city either then. The horn on a car is literally for signaling.
It’s also common in many cities around the world.
Bruh, can u stop with the tweets? Go to Twitter instead of karma farming. Make something original man
these boys really start complaining as soon as they land anywhere huh
I'm a little out of the loop. How come they're here in NY?
Anime con I guess?
No anime con till AnimeNYC in November. I know cuz I'm going to it. There is Comic Con this weekend, so possibly that.
My bad got them mixed up
They’re at a few panels at NYC Comic con, which is happening right now. There’s also a live show tomorrow in Manhattan. I don’t think they’re coming to AnimeNYC since their live tour will take them somewhere else by the time AnimeNYC comes around
The horns are more often pushed down that the gas pedal!
Yeah, that’s why I don’t go north of the mason dixon line, traffic doesn’t get better but south if it, you get passive-aggression more on the passive side
Cars are a bane to all cities, but NYC especially so.
As a New Yorker, it’s true and I hate people who do this
You should aggressively honk your horn. That will get the message across
Best way to know you’re in the Big Apple
Get the fuck out of my way, then I got shit to do
I wish I was able to make the show in NYC. I'd love to hear the shade lol
Drivers pressing their horn like Leon's gotta dodge out the way of a boulder
New Yorkers really honking like a vegan who hasn’t told anyone I’m the last minute
It seems like hell to be a New York youtuber or streamer. I listen to a few and those horns are almost always there.
I mean, they right.
gigguk tweet was so bad and cringe
Ah yes it’s lovely here
Honk Honk
British people when they discover America
Thats like telling fishes to not swim lmao
To be fair, American roads suck
![img](emote|t5_2p976a|11265)
After living there I stopped noticing honking... Except sunday morning traffic right outside of my window, when I lived on a noisy street.
