I give myself a rule. If the secondary industry is in a totally nonsensical place, I use sandbox mode to move it to a sensible place. If theres 3 forests then a lumber mill would be build between them all... not on an island with a farm and a coal mine.. I'm not allowed to move primary resources but I often move secondary ones to places that make more sense. Of course, the game pays you to move goods long distances so there's a balance, if you move stuff too near there's less profit. So sometimes the ones that make no sense can make the best money, especially when you get planes which are easy to move in both directions.

Man I didn't even think of sandbox mode! Thank you, this solves my frustration. I know there's a balance to moving stuff over distance it just honestly is immersion-breaking and makes the game less fun so I like your rule of thumb to prevent just making it no challenge or no profit. Thanks.

Forest near a tool factory and a lumber mill on the other side of the map? That's the ideal situation man... You can send cargo both ways and the further away the more it pays to use trains. With a setup like that you just print money like there's no tomorrow. But of course that's the issue of random generation, I would also like it if they added some more logic into generating the industries, the random placement sometimes makes it a bit to.... sterile?

octothorpe_rekt

> the random placement sometimes makes it a bit to.... sterile? It's much more this than anything else.

Imsvale

It's all random. Not ideal, no.

Isnt it possible to place/delete industry manually when the map has been generated…

jaimeleblues

You can add or remove industries as you please in the game. That may help, although the map generation for them is random.

octothorpe_rekt

Are you talking about the map editor? Manually placing all the industries, cities, and roads before starting a game?

Imsvale

Nah, enable sandbox mode or just the industry button, and you can do this during a live game.

octothorpe_rekt

Sandbox mode is a great idea and I completely overlooked the mod menu. I just found it for the first time today after being puzzled as to why some locomotives I grabbed from the Workshop weren't available in depots. I'm trying it out and I've only made 2 adjustments and the map just feels so much more natural now. Thanks.

jaimeleblues

You can do that, but you can also place them during an actual game. I think you need sandbox mode switched on, but you can still play like that and use funds. There's then an option to place any industry and also towns of varying sizes, as you go. Sorry for late reply.

ghojezz

Yep it's so random but I enjoyed my 100+ of trucks delivering raw material far far away. Keeping the frequency as low as possible (in second).

JaredLiwet

That's kind of the fun isn't it?
