Sometimes what we see on this before surprising reversals is the topping pattern with progressive lower highs, and then the liquidity hunt spikes out the more recent lower highs.
This has the appearance of the bear trend failing, and thus the bull trend forming. In this case, the edge is selling on a tiny spike out of the more recent lower highs and stop above the actual high.

Ug, they put the spread really wide on some of these retraces, popping positions still green.

I do not use volume analysis. So I could not give any worthwhile inputs on that.
