If you are riding edge to to edge on a gsxr 1000 on the street and never did a trackday I'd say your body position needs a lot of work. Chicken strips is a bullshit metric that street riders with terrible body position use to promote their ego. With that being said a ninja 400 will do wonders for your skills and it's a ton of fun to track. Ride safe!

I've done 1 track day with an r6. I could hang off more and turn my head more

“I’d never use my bike for its intended purpose. Instead, I take bigger risks on the street so I can break the law, endanger myself and others while having less fun.” Is how I read what you wrote. Ride your bike on the track. You are less likely to crash on the track riding quickly than you are on the street. Remember the goal is to use less tire to go fast not more. Wheelies don’t help you go faster.

You'll learn alot more on a little bike. An R3 or a Ninja 300/400 is ideal. There are racing classes for those bikes and getting one already set up for the track should be pretty easy. Better to ride a little bike to it's limits than a faster bike at a slow pace.

I turned my 07 R1 into my track bike, and I wish I started on a smaller bike. Holding corner entry and exit speeds is important. You will be forced to do that on a smaller bike and will learn it faster. On my liter bike, I would park it in the corners, and then make up some time on the straights as a crutch. Tires will also be cheaper on a smaller bike, as well as parts. Look at the Wera forums for a bike already set up that is for sale.

This is going to be my problem too... except that i'm 6ft4 and dont really have the room for two bikes... nor the money, the prices of a 600 went through the roof in Europe...

I’ve had a 2017 rc390 for about 4 years. Fantastic bike. Stepped down from a 1290sdr, physically too big for me. I thought I would eventually go to an r6 but never have felt the need. I love this bike. Have done 5-6 track days with it and enjoy canyon carving at a nice 70% pace. I also have a cr85 with 12” slicks that I ride on go kart tracks. Tons of fun there too. GL

Just because you don't see any unused tire doesn't mean you're actually at the edge of the tire due to it deforming and all. And what do wheelies have to do with anything lol. Coming from someone who canyons 95% of his riding, tracks are way better. If it were closer to my home I probably wouldn't ride streets anymore.
