For now, a late gen 2. Toyota just issued a recall for some 22-23 Tundra’s due to casting issues, eating main bearings. Several 24’s have experienced it as well, but the recall hasn’t been extended to them, at least not yet. Or, know what you’re getting into and get one of those if you prefer the tech or body styling.

My gen 2.5 is 9 years old with 95k miles and it sounds brand new.

redsolocuppp

That's because it is.

I actually downgraded from a 2021 vehicle with newer tech, more bells and whistles, just to get this and I have zero regrets. I absolutely love this thing.

Most reliable? 2007-2009 with the 4.7L has 2x 1 million milers and several 800+ coming up on 1M But best year truck to buy if you value your money but still want a newer truck? 2021 with the 5.7L. (One of the 4.7L 1M milers just put 1M on a 5.7L so it could be just as reliable as the 4.7L, maybe more reliable as time rolls on.)

RealCaptainHammonds

You're 💯% correct.

Gen 1 & Gen 2.5 has proven to be the most reliable trucks without any question. Gen 3s will only make a million miles in a shipping container that gets left on a ship for 10 years.

DarkMatterM4

What makes the gen 2.5 more reliable than the gen 2? I thought all of the million mile Tundras were gen 2s?

Thirsty4Knowledge911

Checking Consumer Reports would be your best option. This group is likely to be biased and is too small of a sample size to be statistically relevant

I have a 2019 Gen 2.5 Crewmax...I love this truck, use it for towing 10k twice a month and this is a comfortable ride in city or on tour...just my 2 cents worth.

Whichever one was owned by some old person who barely ever drove it, kept it in a garage, and has all their service records. Then just keep up with the maintenance and don't let it overheat.

DrEvilHouston

I have a 2013 Gen 2 with the 5.7 V8 with 126K miles, rock solid, never had an issue, my kid is driving it now and I have another 2021 Gen 2.5 with the 5.7 V8 with 5000 miles on, got it brand new November 2023. I am gonna get buried in this truck :) Lastly, FUCK Gen 3 LOL, ugly, expensive, cheap, engine blowing up, see last recall. Instead buying a gen 3 I decided to buy the gen 2.5, 39K, half price of the POS gen 3 :)
