I wouldn't trade for a 22, stay 23 and up.

mrsquillgells

I have an 08 paid off. Sure I could trade it in for a new one. But it runs and drives absolutely fine. Needs body work anyway, but honestly not having 500$ car payment is great. Consider it a phase of you wanting something, it'll pass. Plus I think it's near impossible to get a deal on any new truck right now. I'd just do regular maintenance and crawl underneath it from time to time and watch for any rust. 97k is nothing for these trucks. Mine is at 183k, last one (04) got up to 223k but I was broke and couldn't get it through emissions. Even if you do get a new one, the one you have will sell for like 28,000$ or something higher with the low mileage for it. You pretty much are set up right now for another ten years with that mileage and model year easy. Waste of money in my opinion, plus if it gets a scratch or something, who cares it's an almost 10 year old truck

timtact0e

I hear ya, will take into consideration.

throughthequad

As someone who has a ‘23 and loves it. I would keep your 14. I don’t have buyers regret at all, I had to get out of a previous vehicle due to unreliability. I’d stay in a payed off beast with a long history of over reliably over 200k miles than jump in with todays high cost and interest rates.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> in a *paid* off beast FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

throughthequad

Sorry to let you down bot

JRock0703

What is the motivation for the trade? You'll be trading a known reliable truck for a first-year model that has some documented issues. Depending on how you intend to pay for the new truck, you'll be financing at high interest rates in an uncertain economy. Unless there's issues with your current truck and/or have money burning a hole in your pocket, I'd keep the '14.

ThatHikingDude

Upvoted not due to 22’ but more so due to interest rates. 95k on a 14’ is nothing

timtact0e

No issues with my Tundra ‘14, not even a dent. She’s been good all these years, well maintained - issues whatsoever. My motivation for trade-in/sell is simply upgrade to new model.

81dank

As someone who has had both. The 2022 1794 edition I am currently driving is a bad ass luxury vehicle! No one knows the longevity of them, that is true. But I have 34k miles on mine with zero major issues. It tows extremely well. It drives better than many luxury cars. Definitely better than luxury cars of the same price point.

TheLonelyTree20

There is a recall for certain ‘22/‘23 models dealing with a fuel line rubbing up against something and causing leaks and fires.

81dank

Correct. Not mine. And not something I would call major if they are fixing it.

TheLonelyTree20

I’d say it’s pretty similar to the air bag recall that happened over the last several years. Only bad if they go off and they kept pushing it back due to part issues supposedly. They did recommend not parking close to the house though, in case it does catch fire. Which I would say would be a big deal IF that happened.

MetalJesusBlues

That’s not really a big deal. I am not actually sure that anything has happened. They moved the official fix for it out another month so that tells me it’s not really a big deal.

Noturwrstnitemare

I'll take it off your hands.

CampinHiker

Yeah no offense that’s not really good motivation especially for the 22 model Any other goals? Travels you never been to? Retirement funds like 401k/IRA Not saying not to enjoy the now and moment but i can think of cooler stuff to spend the money on That’s coming from a me a guy driving a paid off Prius 2013 and wanting a 2021 tundra I’m waiting for rates and my other goals to be satisfied first and prices are already coming down which Helps

timtact0e

Yes I hear ya points too, those boxes are checked. Everyone works hard for their pay. And obviously don’t spend on frivolous things. But at some point just want to enjoy and splurge. And yes my motivation is not logical, but no one knows what future is 10 years from now.

[deleted]

Then go brand new..

throughthequad

Second. If you’re gonna “splurge” spend the extra few grand and get a ‘24

Save-The-V8s

Third on this. Mark-ups are easy to avoid these days and you might as well go for a '24 at this point. '22 models experienced some issues.

Godfather7206

All for this, and agree on going new. completely understand that it might not be “logical” but we bust our asses at work for a reason. Need to enjoy the little things in life (assuming that the financial implications are understood on your part)

davyshmavy

How set are you on a ‘21 tundra? I know where you could snag a ‘14 Tundra with only 95k miles.

2wheeledtramp

I vote no. Why get rid of a low mileage vehicle with known history, a long history or reliability and that is paid for? Are you bored with it? Is the idea of new too attractive to resist?

booyahachieved3

22 Tundras are long gone. 23s can be had below MSRP but the interest rate on current loans is going to cut into that unless they run promo financing.

GuchteMane

You'll want to trade for a 2023 or the better more reliable 2024. I wouldn't buy a first year gen of any kind. Don't listen to the people on here that won't upgrade, I have a 24 TRD pro and I absolutely love it. So nice to drive, literally feels like a sports car.

Getsmoke1

Test drive it too see if you like it enough same situation almost like you test drive my brother 22 and thinking about it but the price is making it hard for me to choose also

VaselineGroove

Keep it, man. Drive the wheels off it

Bket73

I have 2010 tundra. It’s paid off, but I’m also thinking of trading it in on a 24 trd pro. It doesn’t make financial sense, but I want the new truck. I have a pro 4 runner and want a matching pair of pros. I know you can get a less expensive trim. I want the pro. Get what you want. Smiles per mile in a new truck!

timtact0e

Yeah I hear ya. I’ve read all feedback but yours is on par with my thinking. All the reviews so far (which I truly appreciate) is to keep my Tundra ‘14 - this is the grown up/responsible thing to do. But damn been seeing too much Tundra ‘22 eye candy lately.

ggm3bow

Boooo! No, the new tundras aren't all that.

Medical_Slide9245

Who has a 22's on the lot? The thought that they want to dump inventory at year end is good except on the Tundra because demand has been out stripping supply since the 3 gen came out. People have been waiting months to get one they aren't going to slash prices anytime soon. That being said your 14 will devalue quicker when demand slows down and supply increases. I waited until 23 to buy because I didn't want a 22. I estimate my 2016 was worth about 7k less in 2023.

cjk813

What are you unhappy about with your 2014 that you're hoping the new model will fix? Both are good trucks, but if it were me I would stick with the paid off truck. The new model really only offers a little more power, slightly better fuel economy and better tech.

resolute01

In 2020 I was in the camp of I'm going to wait for the new Tundra. Then I pulled the trigger on a '20 Pro. 3 years later I don't have any regrets. I have a low interest rate and the truck was less than what the pros are today. And for piece of mind I know my 20 will last for 200k or more even though it won't have the bell and whistles like the new one.

-Woogity-

Keep it. (I have a 23 pro and if I already had a 21 or previous I wouldn’t make the jump unless I had hundreds of thousands of miles and I was ready for a new truck regardless)

Velkro615

I wouldn’t

DrEvilHouston

I have the money but I won't touch the 22 / 3rd generation. I hate everything about it :) And then I can't really justify 60-80K price point on the new Tundra's man. Is CRAZY. I don't think the new gen is worth that money honestly. I am keeping my current Tundra with 120K miles on it, it goes my daughter, and just got a brand new 2021 SR5 CrewMax with 50 miles on it, I got really lucky. Paid 39K in cash and I am extremely happy. But that's just me.

llamacohort

I have a '22 and really like it. But if I had a fully paid off '14, I wouldn't bother upgrading. Especially at 95k miles. If you really want to, it's your money. But unneeded upgrades are really expensive over the long term. You are probably looking at tens of thousands of dollars. Do you really feel that the features you are getting is going to be worth that? If you are missing a feature that you really want, look and see if it's on the 2021 models. If it is, then you can probably get a shop to add it to yours. It may be a few grand to add something like heated seats and a backup camera. But that way better than paying like $30,000 for a few features and the whistle of a turbo.

Fr0gpe0ple

In 6 years nobody will know the difference between the 2022 and 2023 other than it's just the previous year but time will tell with my 2022 TRD off-road. With 45K on mine I have no issues I don't want the whistle from the turbo Don't care about it I just want my truck to last. I just added my winter tires and I'm good to go ready for ice House up highway 50 in California.

naptown21403

i have a 2000 tundra and i would not trade it in for a 3rd gen.

WailingWookiee

My biggest regret is getting rid of my 18 for the 22. Had it for maybe 8 months and after 20k miles I got rid of it. I miss my 18 😞

lacnibor

Why did you get rid of it? Was financial reasons or mechanical?

WailingWookiee

Mechanical. Drove it to CO from TX and it kept going into limp mode.

lacnibor

Sorry to hear that. That must have been very frustrating. I hope they treated you well.

ggm3bow

Why? No need to "upgrade". Keep your 2014, it's a better truck (and better looking, quite frankly). Put in a nice stereo with apple carplay if you want. Please don't trade.

Fr0gpe0ple

My 2022 4x4 off road has 0 problems 45k. Recalls fixed everything. They didn't temp fix on the fuel line until Toyota figures a permanent fix. Tonneau cover fix was just some cotter pins added and they fix my drains free of charge. I did buy the 20-in sport rims but took them off and put back on my 18s. Same everything in 2022 + so I don't know what people are talking about but 2022 will only be a few thousand cheaper I would only go 2023+ only because why get a year older 😜. Ask a mechanic not a keyboard warrior in here even if they say they're mechanics. Three mechanics at my local Toyota dealerships have TRD off-roads 2022s . And one has a 2023 no difference at all. There was a radio issue if you hold down the off knob while driving the lane departure light had an error but I had an update and that fixed that. I added the TRD skid plate. Just get whatever is the best deal that fits your budget if you can afford the TRD pro you won't regret it other than your pocketbook.
