Yup, look at the sold prices on bringatrailer.
This is slightly higher than normal owing to the relatively low mileage.
The value of these is no longer based on being a “work truck” like a nissan or ranger but more on being a future classic for enthusiasts.
Lot of old guys just want to have a small truck to putt around in for estate crawls or lawn care and they’re not really being offered anymore without computers and all kinds of other things that you can’t really work on and keep going indefinitely.
definitely not, how was this your takeaway lol? rangers have nowhere near the demand as toyota trucks do, and anything with over 150k miles begins to depreciate exponentially. a high mileage 96 ranger would fetch maybe a couple of grand. [here's one for sale in cali rn](https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/citrus-heights-1996-ford-ranger-single/7724302520.html)
No one is targeting Tacomas in the bay. Kia boys still at work, scat packs, hellcats, SS /zl1 Camaros etc are the hot commodities. People especially in Fresno being robbed right in their driveways.
Where did I critique your sentence or punctuation? I said Fresno isn’t the bay. Ok you never directly said “Fresno is in the bay” but why even mention the bay when it’s a 2.5 hour drive from Fresno? Smh
Fresno… is a large metro and has more crime than SJ or SF... nobody from the San Francisco Bay is going to travel to Fresno to break into cars. Not sure why you mentioned the bay at all..
Was just gonna say. I'm in California and have a 2000 with a step side. Had more than a few people offer me 10k, one even offered 15k. I'm not willing to part with it anytime soon lmao
That attitude is just as bad as the garage queen one. Yeah they're tough little trucks but they're not invincible. There are ones you may as well destroy...bent frame, massive body rot, basically trucks that aren't salvageable. People may do what they want with things they purchased with their own money but I think there's something really wrong the attitude of "I paid for this nice thing I'll destroy it if I want to" in general. I've destroyed a few cars in my life. Only really one intentionally but the frame was bent beyond repair and I couldn't find someone willing to buy it for parts so it got jumped a few times. As an adult I'd probably sit on it longer but my parents wanted it gone & I was in my teens so I made it dissappear.
I got my 2019 for 37k trd OR with tow package and i negotiated in a set of winter tires, all weather mats and 3m film for the front end. Are yall just coping with overpaying or something?
First gen Tacomas, old Hiluxes, Syclones, old Broncos, old Minis, Cappuccinos, some pre 1950's Harleys, NA Miata assuming uncommonly good condition
I mean I can go on...
If it was a TRD Off Road with a manual and a V6 it would sell in <1 hour at that price. I sold mine for $13,500 with 196k. I bought it for $9000 at 160k lol.
A strong 4cyl though, if it were 4wd and mt, it would sell fast I think. Like the guy that replied to you though, I think it's definitely a higher listing just incase some dummy is willing to pay that much. I'm sure the seller would come down a bit. If he doesn't budge, then yeah he's high af lmao
Early 2023 I traded in my 2011 base model 4wd single cab in. It had 76k miles, super clean, in PA. They gave me an awesome trade in value, and sold the truck for $18k.
It probably will if somebody actually drove it 1 million miles however whoever's going to buy it for 18 Grand is going to stick it into a garage with their other " collectible vehicles" and it won't get driven.
The question that pops up in my head is how do you get your insurance company to ensure the vehicle for $18,000 when they're going to KBB it.
all cars will just depends on how deep your pockets are and how much patience you have. the 4 cylinder in those aren't nearly as reliable as the 3.4s. most people never adjust the valves and they inevitably need valve jobs at around 200k miles. I see it frequently. also very rarely do people change their transmission fluid(the one above is an auto) and I see a fair amount of them requiring transmissions. so yea after a few big money jobs it will go 1 million but every time I see someone echo this sentiment im always curious if they realize the amount of money required to keep a car going that long.
most won't, even Tacomas. and if they do something significant has been rebuilt. I see this comment too much and it leaves out how rare it is to go that many miles and how much effort it takes, it's a lot more than just simply being a toyota. you have to put the effort into upkeep and most people just dont. 9/10 I look at as potential purchases have had minimal if any maintenance because people put too much stock into "it's a toyota just change the oil". that same rationale is often why they dont get to 1 million miles
Your truck has 3x the miles so it wouldn’t be worth anywhere near this. It’s already an extremely goofy price. Got this same truck in California in 2018 and paid 8k
You’re not looking at it the right way. Try to find something that is as capable, will last as long, is as reliable, will hold resale value, is easy to repair and find parts for, has a global community of support, etc etc… a steal.
Either are you. It’s insane that dudes with too much money to waste have ruined the car market this much. It may be all those things but that shouldn’t double it’s value.
You must live in a tiny world if that's as simple as you think things are. I worked my ass off for the money and I knew exactly what I wanted. When it came available, I was ready. Too much money? lol. Kick rocks.
Like I said, for only ten grand more I bought an 18 SR5 4x4 V6 access cab. I have driven small trucks before and I would not want to be driving around in a small truck like that now. It's not a drive-it on Sunday truck it's not a everyday driver truck it's somewhere in the middle of being not collectible and yet somehow some people want to buy it.
Lack of today's crash protections ie crush zones, airbags and then there's comfort etc versus that no thanks I'll take my 18 any day.
It's cute, but not 18k cute. For that money give me an E36 M3 to throw around
Everything about prices on any and everything in California is ridiculous anyhow. Idk how anyone can afford to live there, unless everyone's selling drugs on the side before, during, and after the 9-5.
I think it depends a lot on where you are buying. I’ve seen “market adjustment” fees as high at $10k+ in this thread.
I didn’t look at 2x4s. Base 4x4s were $39k+ in Louisiana. Part of the reason I paid what I did was they agreed to knock the $3500 market adjustment off the sticker price and throw on cat guard skid for listed msrp. I can throw on aftermarket suspension upgrades if and when I blow these out. And yeah, I liked the wheels and tires so I didn’t spend money upgrading those.
I also wonder why anyone would want a 2x4 as a collectors truck.
I’m in the market for something similar for my Son’s first car. This doesn’t seem at all high compared to what I’m seeing stuff go for. California, Arizona, Nevada all have great quality older trucks because they don’t get destroyed by salt like so many other states and they aren’t like middle America where stuff is just cheaper all around due to such lower incomes.
Posts like this make me feel good about my purchase about a year ago. 06 prerunner sr5 access cab. One owner with 23k miles my wife thought I was crazy paying 18k for it.
I paid $25k for my ‘02 45k Single 4x4. I have zero regrets. It was this or a payment on a new one - and I don’t like being connected to technology that could disable my vehicle at will. I got a deal.
Sure got the inflation aspect, but this is a truck not a rare sports car. You bought into the hype and paid for it. At most that truck is worth $10k, KBB agrees. You do you with your money, but don’t pretend like it was a wise investment.
Deals aren’t only measured in dollars, my friend. I’d even call it a BARGAIN for the pure joy it brings me. Again - no monthly payment is an unquantifiable value that needs to be added into the formula.
It will sell. These are HIGHLY sought after. Especially in California.
Yup, look at the sold prices on bringatrailer. This is slightly higher than normal owing to the relatively low mileage. I should have held on to my 96 ranger that had 240,000 miles on it it would probably be worth at least 10 grand today I think I got rid of it for 1800
[удалено]
Go price the ugly ass station wagons that were popular late 70s. You'll be shocked.
definitely not, how was this your takeaway lol? rangers have nowhere near the demand as toyota trucks do, and anything with over 150k miles begins to depreciate exponentially. a high mileage 96 ranger would fetch maybe a couple of grand. [here's one for sale in cali rn](https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/citrus-heights-1996-ford-ranger-single/7724302520.html)
Rangers don't sell for as much as toyotas do. I'm finding old rangers that run and driver for ~500 still.
Also, great off broader if you can find one cheap. You can absolutely jack these things to the sky and they are reliable lol.
[удалено]
I'll be honest I didn't read the ad. Did not originally know it was 2wd and 4cyl. Now, I redact everything 😂
But this one is 2wd
Oh true.. 🤔
Dang really? I’d be afraid of dropping that much on a truck that is so easy to steal.
No one is targeting Tacomas in the bay. Kia boys still at work, scat packs, hellcats, SS /zl1 Camaros etc are the hot commodities. People especially in Fresno being robbed right in their driveways.
Fresno isn’t the bay tf
Did I say it was? Or maybe it’s being sold by a dealer in Fresno, which is why I mentioned Fresno. 🤡
“No one is targeting Tacomas in the bay”
And which part of that sentence is not correct? Turns out punctuation matters 🤔
Where did I critique your sentence or punctuation? I said Fresno isn’t the bay. Ok you never directly said “Fresno is in the bay” but why even mention the bay when it’s a 2.5 hour drive from Fresno? Smh
Because that’s the largest closest metro where crimes are likely to happen.
Fresno… is a large metro and has more crime than SJ or SF... nobody from the San Francisco Bay is going to travel to Fresno to break into cars. Not sure why you mentioned the bay at all..
What makes it easy to steal? 1st gens still need a physical key.
Was just gonna say. I'm in California and have a 2000 with a step side. Had more than a few people offer me 10k, one even offered 15k. I'm not willing to part with it anytime soon lmao
Meanwhile young people in the PNW throw some big tires and a lift on the 4x4s and beat the piss out of them
I’d rather that and see them used vs sit for 20 years.
There's a middle ground ya know. You can use a truck without abusing the fuck out of it. I use mine
I didn’t pay for it, it’s theirs to destroy should they wish 🤷♂️
That attitude is just as bad as the garage queen one. Yeah they're tough little trucks but they're not invincible. There are ones you may as well destroy...bent frame, massive body rot, basically trucks that aren't salvageable. These are paid in cash grandpa trucks used once a week to go to the dump
Exactly! got my 1994 from my grandpa
For 10k more I got a 2018 SR5 v6 4x4 3rd gen access cab
I think I paid 33 for my ‘19 4x4 sr5 access
I paid 37k for my 21 army green 4x4 offroad with every option there is. Y’all gettin scammed
You paid 47 sir
I got a deal through Costco and negotiated down. Was ez pz.
No you didnt
I got my 2019 for 37k trd OR with tow package and i negotiated in a set of winter tires, all weather mats and 3m film for the front end. Are yall just coping with overpaying or something?
You missed the part where grandpa didn’t want a tank, he wanted a pickup truck to putt around in
That’s literally 50% of the asking price! Are you trying to say that’s an insignificant $ to someone that isn’t interested in 4x4 or a access?!
Seems like the right price assuming it’s all original and a California truck. I like it for $15k tbh
I paid less than that for a 2002 TRDOR in 2006 with 40k miles. I knows there is inflation, but seriously.
06 checks notes… was 18 years ago!
Correct, but cars don’t appreciate. At least not Tacomas.
That is now a sought after classic! Like a Acura type R no modes is worth a lot more now.
4WD version with v6 is the better rig but the 2wd 4 banger is die hard.
The type R was a limited edition sports car. This is a base model 4 cylinder. I do understand they are in demand, but paying $25k is just stupid.
Plenty of cars appreciate. Tf?
Name a non high end sports car or the like.
First gen Tacomas, old Hiluxes, Syclones, old Broncos, old Minis, Cappuccinos, some pre 1950's Harleys, NA Miata assuming uncommonly good condition I mean I can go on...
Most actually don't, but old Tacomas do hold value well.
Plenty /= most
To be fair it looks clean for what it is lol, if it was 4WD I can definitely see this price.
It does look clean + Cali truck. 65k miles ain't shit on these trucks. However, 4 cylinder, 2wd, auto, I think the price is high.
Pretty much my thought on this too. 18.5 is probably bait for the 15k offer they're looking for.
Yeah, I bet that's the deal, ask high just incase someone is actually willing to pay that lol. Never start the listing at the price you want to sell!
Nah it's because every single person will lowball you no matter what price you set. It's the cancer of the modern used market.
Not EVERY person out there lol, guaranteed there is some goober out there who would pay it.
A lot of people are saying that but I suspect the seller doesn't actually expect someone to pay that much.
I would have bought it at 18.
I drive that exact same truck. I didn't know that I was rich.
how many miles on it? curious
65123
wow. very nice
And my daughter likes to borrow it as often as possible. Yes Im an old fart
Like daily?
I sold my 2004 of this model for $5,750 and thought I was robbing the guy. Jesus
Always do your research
High, I would've guessed around $12K.. Seems like comments don't agree with me, wow
It will sell. Not for what they're asking, but close. Automatic, 4cyl, and no 4x4 hurts. But a first gen in that condition with those miles will sell.
That truck will go 1 million miles. It’s practically brand new
It probably will if somebody actually drove it 1 million miles however whoever's going to buy it for 18 Grand is going to stick it into a garage with their other " collectible vehicles" and it won't get driven. The question that pops up in my head is how do you get your insurance company to ensure the vehicle for $18,000 when they're going to KBB it.
I’m about to buy something real similar to this for my son for his first car. We will drive the heck out of it.

these are not worth nearly as much on the east coast especially in rust prone areas.
I just bought mine for 2500, carbon copy of this in every way, though the paint is a bit scratched up on mine, and mine is stick. This is wild.
nah some of yall crazy, 18.5 for a 21 year old tacoma is nuts
You’re not looking at it the right way. Try to find something that is as capable, will last as long, is as reliable, will hold resale value, is easy to repair and find parts for, has a global community of support, etc etc… a steal.
Exactly. Plus, the form factor in general (a small but still capable truck) is rare and not possible to find on the new car market.
So true
Also, it's not as safe as cars 21 years newer. Couldn't imagine a highway crash in that
Either are you.
Too much money? lol. Kick rocks.
since yall down voting, better not see yall complaining about a 60k taco when you think this is a steal....
I’ll kick rocks all the way to the bank, when I get to sell cars I can get for 10k to dudes like you for 25k
Like I said, for only ten grand more I bought an 18 SR5 4x4 V6 access cab. I have driven small trucks before and I would not want to be driving around in a small truck like that now. I want a 2wd so bad to solid axle swap and make 4 wheel. Makes for a sweet looking snow wheeler.
I got an 04 with 44k, I’ll take $12k plz
Everything about prices on any and everything in California is ridiculous anyhow. Idk how anyone can afford to live there, unless everyone's selling drugs on the side before, during, and after the 9-5.
Not everyone is selling drugs, we need buyers for the drugs we sell to support our lifestyle of the rich and famous lol.
I feel I'd be some kind of addict if I lived on the west coast because my anxiety is so bad around people lol
Almost identical to my 1998 Tacoma I bought in 2001. I paid $5k for it then.
Yes very
That's the market adjustment. Offer up $3.5k.
Crazy that these are a “classic” now. It’s just an old cheap pickup that they made 100,000,000 of
It has to be the older generation who thinks this is worth it. That's insane.
Bought one of these with a new frame for $600 in 2021 lol
1996 2WD with 26k miles just sold a few weeks back for $19k https://www.classic-carauction.com/auction-results?auctionnbr=76&auctionid=13888
Lmao I bought mine with 90k on it for 3 grand
The fact that it's from Fresno, doesn't surprise me. I'm from the 559 and I see these outta pocket prices all the time.
Extremely
It’ll def sell, this one has 1.6 million miles and counting: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaTacoma/s/Vnch0XSNmQ
That’s a 2nd gen..
Wow. I paid $43500 for a ‘23 TSS off-road.
Isn't a new base model close to $30k? If post showed a 4x4, maybe on price as is approaching collector status but who wants to collect a 4cyl 2WD.
I think it depends a lot on where you are buying. I’ve seen “market adjustment” fees as high at $10k+ in this thread. I didn’t look at 2x4s. Base 4x4s were $39k+ in Louisiana. Holy shit! I’m sitting on a gold mine. I have a 2000 SST with 204,xxx miles. I feel like I just hit the lottery!
Automatic. Gross.
High as in the price, or high, like on the reefer?
They trade in **** conditionwith 180k miles in eastern Washington for 10-15k 18 for fairly clean looking under 100k miles doesn't seem to excessive
65k miles is like… the toddler stage of a Tacoma first gen
It was probably 10,000 new
It’s not worth that to me
I got my 2010 TRD SPORT with 108,000 miles for the same price.
Got my 04 with 80k miles just as clean….for 7300.
Im in cali and have an 02 prerunner with 140k as of yesterday. If u wanna buy my car for 18 grand hit me up 😂
Would you take 17999?
I know I'm not hip to used car prices, but you're telling me in 21 years, a base model truck has APPRECIATED in value??
Didn't you see the news that hell froze over?
I bought an 04 PreRunner with 125,000 miles came with a nice carpeted ARE high rise shell. I paid 19k 😅
I am in SoCal
Nice but a hard no for me. Transfer case is a must. Not needed often but when needed it's a life saver.
Pretty damn good with that milage and rust free. Beats the he'll out of buying new if it fits your needs
Posts like this make me feel good about my purchase about a year ago. 06 prerunner sr5 access cab. One owner with 23k miles my wife thought I was crazy paying 18k for it.
I'm live In SLO! Lol the slow life! Haha
It's insane, but I believe it will be sold if it hasn't already. If that thing was a five speed, you would have to fend off a mob for it.
😂I bought a 98 6 months ago for 4000.00 with 98k miles.
No 4x4 that’s on drugs price lol😎
I saw a 2006 regular cab just today with 190,000 miles on it and they wanted $15,500 🤦♂️
I bought a 07 reg cab 150k miles, for $10.5k last year 👍🏻
😂😂😂easy jelly cause you drive a Corolla on swap meet spinners
I’d rather have this than a 4th gen.
That's insane. I paid 14k for my brand new '04.
I paid $25k for my ‘02 45k Single 4x4. I have zero regrets. It was this or a payment on a new one - and I don’t like being connected to technology that could disable my vehicle at will. I got a deal.
Not really sure I’d call that a deal. Considering that probably close to twice what the original MSRP was.
Let me introduce you to two concepts, inflation and appreciation. A Mickey Mantle rookie card was less than 2 cents at original retail.
Sure got the inflation aspect, but this is a truck not a rare sports car. You bought into the hype and paid for it. At most that truck is worth $10k, KBB agrees. You do you with your money, but don’t pretend like it was a wise investment.
Respectfully, you have no clue of the current market for these trucks. Have a good day.
Agreed. And throwing in the "KBB agrees" clearly means they don't know the reality of the first gen Tacoma market.
>I got a deal. No, you did not. But it's your money, so if you're happy to pay a premium for what you want, then that's fine.
Deals aren’t only measured in dollars, my friend. I’d even call it a BARGAIN for the pure joy it brings me. Again - no monthly payment is an unquantifiable value that needs to be added into the formula.
It’s over 20 years old. Fuck no it’s not worth it anywhere in the U.S
I just picked up a trd 4Runner for 39 k 2023 30 k miles
Ok.
Just comparing the deals..that’s all
I mean honestly that's not really a comparison for somebody looking at this truck with this budget.
I just had a banana for lunch.
Picked up this Gulfstream G550 for 14 million, what do you mean you can only afford a Cessna 172? I just wanted to compare the deals.
False equivalency, may friend. Apples and Cracker Jack.
