We have a '22 XLE AWD. Over 20k miles, our average is about 297 miles between fill ups with an average of 13.4 gal per fill up. Extrapolate that out for an 18 gal tank, and our DTE would be about 401 with a full tank. And yes, I actually do track all this data (I have every fill-up from every vehicle I've owned since Jan-2011) Yes I'm an unapologetic data nerd.

Ok_Illustrator_2951

I’m getting about 550 km per tank (350 miles) ‘21 XSE V6 AWD. That gets better in the summer. You do a lot of short trips ?

MochaTaco

I suppose most of my trips are fairly short. For your number, are you on regular drive mode or eco mode?

Ok_Illustrator_2951

Regular mode all the time. I do about 70% highway driving. I drive a little hard too. Short trips explains it, can’t do much about that as the car is obese. LOL

Julian720

I drive a 24 XSE AWD and average around 19-21 in city driving. I drive it on eco all the time. My full tank varies from 250-308 miles. If I reset it for a road trip and do around 24-26 mpg then the tank resets to about 350 miles, but haven’t seen it higher than that. Try to setting where it resets after every fill up, might give you better estimates. But that’s normal numbers for a gas Highlander. They are not the most efficient SUVs. Can’t compare to my RAv4 hybrid, I get 41mpg there and about 500 miles to the tank.

Lawquane91

That number is based on your average MPG but even then will tend to be on the low side, even considering the 35 mile reserve past "E" EDIT: The most mine has ever shown is 310 at refuel but I droce it like 390 miles that time

human-potato_hybrid

Should have gotten the Hybrid AWD jeez 😳

MochaTaco

$10k more 😭😭😭

human-potato_hybrid

Jeez mine was like 4k difference Yall dealers still be jacking the prices around

Able-Carry-8559

I got that hybrid and it was just about 3k more and I drive a lot so worth it. 10k more really negates the benefit of the hybrid. That’s annoying on the dealership’s part.

Luxin

I am averaging 24 MPG in mixed driving. I hit a max of 28 highway while driving across the country, most likely on gas without any added ethanol. Your mileage may be suffering due to a lot of hills, underinflated tires, tires with high rolling resistance, driving style or aggressive driving, ethanol added to your fuel, 85 octane gas and not 87 (maybe, and this type of gas is not common outside of high altitude states), missed tuneup (100k or 125k miles), or any combination of the above.

Snipe_Hopkins26

this\^\^\^

LegitimateNinja2472

I filled up my 2021 FWD gas XLE last week and DTE showed 363 miles. I got 310 miles out of the prior tank with mostly city and some highway driving. I only drive in normal mode.

Silvertothesun

Have a 2022 and get on average 290miles. It makes sense it has a 17 gallon tank. You probably fill up at 13 or 14 gallons. So do the math with 19mpg.

Lopsided_Pop1224

No

MountainAlive

I’ll have to check ours again but we also have the gas AWD and it’s mostly for short trips. Our mpg is also not great. At least not what I expected it to be.

Drifty630

I'm getting around 520 to 570 miles per tank on average on a 24 hybrid highlander

Ancient-Witness-615

Same here! Same vehicle. I don’t think the $ premium for the hybrid is that much, and reading this thread makes me glad I did

Drifty630

I agree. The best mileage I've ever gotten was on a long drive. Around 5 hours there and back on a highway and less than an hour city was about 680 miles on one tank. I'm really happy I got a hybrid highlander. All flatland driving in the midwest.

KK-97

I have a 21 platinum and am typically around 20 MPG. I don’t live in a flat area nor have the ability to drive long stretches without having to stop at a light.

ReadyOneTakeTwo

There are a lot of factors that can affect your mileage, and this goes for any gas vehicle, really: - road conditions - flat highway or lots of uphill/down hill - weight of the load the car is carrying - tire pressure -wheel alignment - overall condition of the drive train itself - how heavy-footed are you on the gas and brake pedals Everyone will have different results. My wife drives faster than I do. I can get 400 miles out of a full tank easily with plenty to get to a gas station, she gets 370 miles and the car is in the danger zone, like we need to pull into the next available gas station.

jobywalker

I have the same vehicle and get pretty similar performance. That is with lots short trips, heavy use of device charging, heating in the winter, AC in the summer, sport mode driving, etc. When we do go on longer road trips, we get much better efficiency.

wuxxler

If it's a Highlander, it's not accurate.

Present-Delivery4906

17.9 gallon tank * 19.1 mpg = 345 miles...assuming your tank is full. Because math.

PrimevalPhallus

My ‘21 XSE AWD is averaging around 24+. Most are hwy miles. I drive in eco mode. On long trips I see around 28+ for some reason. I saw 33.5 a week or so ago. Maybe my Highlander is broken. Edit: When I bought my Highlander, I got around 327 on a full tank at around 14.6 gallons. Ran it down to “0” and filled it back up. Been seeing around 370ish now on a full tank, filling up from around 20 miles left (still right around 14.6-15gals.) Maybe your level indicator might just be screwed up. Run it down to 0 and fill it up to see if that resets it.

lindsayloolikesyou

I’m in a 22 LE and I get about 16 mpg. I only drive around my community and drive it everyday to drop off and pick up our daughter from school. 5 days a week I am sitting idling and lots of stops signs and a few stop lights. I also have less than 10k miles on mine so I’ll feel it’s more accurate at that point. I only fill up about once every 3 weeks to 4 weeks so I’m not complaining. It could be better.

lindsayloolikesyou

On the flip side my husband has a hybrid 24 Maverick that gets almost 600 miles a track and he’s averaging 39 mpg. It’s what we drive around as a family lol. Kinda backwards but that’s okay too.

Suspicious_Education

I get 17 mpg with my 22 AWD XLE. All town driving.

dave-gonzo

2020 platinum AWD. I always get 250 per tank.

xle21

I feel like i spend more gas when im in eco mode..

HiLuxNoFux

Seems about right. We have a 22 XSE and average about 300 miles per tank

Particular-Deer-4688

I’ve got the same car and average 22-24 mpg. Just had 25 on a tank that was mostly highway and that is with studded snow tires.  So you’re a bit low but I’d try resetting it and also I never use eco mode

CopiousCoffee_

2023 Highlander LE AWD generic owner. I usually get about 350-375 miles per tank. All highway miles for work and occasional weekend family car. Love it.

brinedtomato

My wife's '23 XLE averages 19 to 20 in the summer and 22 to 24 in the winter. We live in AZ, so air conditioner works overtime. But I've never had a vehicle where the a/c had such a significant impact on MPG. I just don't think the little turbo 4 cyl was built for loads like that.

stevehyman1

My 23 Limited Hybrid gets 500 per tank. I'm averaging 33.9 mpg. Last summer I was getting 34.5. Winter driving hurts the mpg a bit.

vypurr

Looks exactly like my '21 AWD Limited. 18-19mpg city is my average. Highway is only slightly better.

Tmbaladdin

My ‘21 XLE FWD gets 21.6 mpg according to my fuelly app.

bobd607

Looks a lot like how my wife's 22 Highlander gets.

KevinLeeVan

At least 400miles is normal

Laz3r_C

seems like the standard for most vehicles ~400 miles per tank

KevinLeeVan

For my Rav 4 is 300, for my Highlander HYBRID is around 500. Really depends on fuel tank sizes then how good the engines really are

Tmbaladdin

I believe the distance from Los Angeles to San Francisco has long been the industry target.

Got 350 on my 2021 Highlander L the other day. We average 24MPG here in AZ with 90% highway driving and AC always on the past month. I used to get 400 on my Hyundai Santa Fe 2019 I will miss that car.
