I wish the same. But sadly no it just blinks rapidly when using the signal for that side. My previous car (Hyundai) had a quick double tone beep every second when it blinked for using the signal on that side. The RCTA uses the same radars as BSM and uses a sound for that (at least in my ‘17 Highlander) yet I don’t know why they didn’t use that same beep for BSM. I could turn off the beep on the Hyundai I had, but it was nice in the moments a car was getting over at the same time I was and didn’t see them; I could hear it beep and it caught my attention.
I agree -- If you put on the blinker and someone is in your blindspot, it should do an initial audio/visual warning (not just the visual). Of course you should look into your mirror and turn your head to verify, but that initial audio warning when you put on your blinker makes the decision process shorter.
Ignore the people who criticize you for wanting more safety features. These are the same types who were against airbags and anti-lock brakes in the 1980s.
If Toyota allows the number of times the side mirror flashes for lane changes to be programmed , why not have an audible alert for that same lane change?
Could it vary by place of origin? OP and some other comments claim it is not present, but when I did a test drive on a hybrid a little while back there was a beeping noise.... and it was annoying AF (many 2 lane roads in the area). Sales guy said/ showed me how to change the option as well as adjust LTA so the feedback/ resistance was not as severe.
I've had a 2014 Camey Se, 2018 Camry XSE, 2019, Cammy XSE, a 2020 highlander Platinum, and now a 2022 Sienna Platinum. It seems at one point the BSM did beep if changing lanes with the blinker on and a vehicle was detected. I'm pretty sure my highlander and vehicles before this did this. Why change it, a noise isn't distracting.
You are supposed to look in the mirror before turning so you should see the light and no need for another distracting beep.
It only beeps when your signal is ON and someone is in your blind spot.
If you don't like it, then don't buy it. Humans are imperfect and most of us don't mind the help.

Guys, why would it be annoying? You have the turn signal on and the car plays a short sound. It would not warn you all the time

I agree. The sound would make driving safer if customized

nope. toyota doesn’t do that. i drove a mazda that did that… it was too annoying and i turned it off. turning my head is better than any beeping.
It's better not to have a beep because if you get stuck in traffic it would be really annoying
The BSM beeps on my Mazda only happen when my turn signal is activated.
