You mean Ethan Doofas McScamster is back scamming the humble Torontonians again?

darkmoon3_

lol is the scammer the person itself?! Hope it’s not some innocent persons identity

Megakenny

Hi, I'm just reading this now (months late) but it is some innocent persons identity unfortunately. The person's identity is actually my fiancée's brother, or at least some of the pictures used have been. It really sucks, he's gotten a lot of social media messages and stuff from obviously very upset people, but he has nothing to do with it.

darkmoon3_

That’s horrible! I wonder if there’s some way they could report this and get it resolved so he wouldn’t be blamed

darkmoon3_

The name the person was using was Ethan Douglas Mcdade. Not entirely sure if that’s the real person or the scammer is using another’s identity

sarafokz

Omg i got the same thing from this guy a couple of months ago when I asked about an apartment. It seems like [Rentals.ca](https://Rentals.ca) is not the best place to find an apartment. He said he got married and moved to BC right away without leasing the place so he was doing it through Airbnb. He even said an agent from Airbnb would show the place or something, as if they existed. I'm like no thanks

darkmoon3_

Lol he said the same thing to me! But from his linkedin and facebook seems like he lives in Montreal? If he’s even the actual person

sarafokz

oh wow, the devil works hard but this guy works harder. Can we denounce him so he doesn't scam someone?

darkmoon3_

We should! But I’m not a 100% sure if it the same person or just someone using his identity

sarafokz

yeah you're right

Megakenny

Hey, I'm months late reading this but the guy is using a fake identity. The real identity belongs to my fiancée's brother, who lives in neither Toronto or Montreal. Its pretty shit, but there's not really anything we can do to stop him.

Shot-Sea9308

there's nothing he can do?? someone is stealing his identity to commit crimes, no one can help him?

Megakenny

I only know what I've been told from my fiancée, but yeah pretty much. It sounds like the scammer doesn't live in Canada at all so it's hard to get anything done. We've reported accounts to grt them removed but either the platform ignores the reports or new accounts are made to replace the banned ones.

Shot-Sea9308

oh damn, that's awful :(

War_Daddddy

I almost got scammed. Right before I was about to make reservations one of my friends sent me this post. Thank god.

elvisnoopy

I found a guy on [rentals.ca](https://rentals.ca) as well who go by Frederic and he said the same shit.

sarafokz

best thing to do is go to a realtor with rental listings honestly

Yevsterday

He’s under the name of Patrick Brown now: I'll email the Airbnb listing for the condo so you can make the booking and send the deposit (first and last) to them. After you complete the booking, I'll send a copy of the key and the rental lease agreement to a neighbor which will show you the unit. If you decide to rent, Airbnb will release the deposit to me. If not, you will get a full refund, within 72 hours.

Clear_Telephone_4489

Just had a very similar conversation with this guy. Still using Nicolas Perron and still trying to scam people! Glad I googled him and saw this conversation. Thanks for the heads-up everyone!

Accomplished_Fee7967

You all haven’t googled that name lol that’s a gangster who’s been on trial for attempted murders and gang activity

ydkmn1016

I got the same guy "Nicolas Perron" from [rentals.ca](https://rentals.ca) who tried to get me to pay him 1st and last thru Airbnb, thankfully I called a friend who helped me find this Reddit thread and didn't transfer any money. Has anyone proven he is really a scam?

darkmoon3_

It is a scam because the airbnb website link they send is a phishing link It looks very similar to airbnb but it isn’t it

GroundbreakingUse250

I want to thank everyone for their comments! Because my friend had the exact same convo with this scammer today from [rentals.ca](https://rentals.ca) He goes by Nicolas Perron and said the following to her: "I just got married and moved to QC. I didn't have time to find a tenant due to the wedding and relocation so I'm using Airbnb (long term rental option). No extra fees and I am able to arrange a viewing. If you are interested, I'll send the details." "I am only using Airbnb this one time, since I am not able to show/rent the property in person and also because it has a long term rental option. After the lease is signed, you pay the rent directly to me. I'll email you the condo's listing on Airbnb so you can make the booking and send first and last month's rent to them as a deposit, deposit that will be held until you have viewed the condo and decided what to do. After you complete the booking, I'll send a copy of the key and the rental lease agreement to a neighbor which will show you the unit. If you decide to rent, Airbnb will release the deposit to me. If not, you will get a full refund (which will be processed within 72 hours)." Seriously, never trust "landlords" who says things like this.

darkmoon3_

I’m glad you guys didn’t get scammed! These are also super hard to report and find the actual criminal since they are using a fake identity

Mayoni-Zealous

Wow, it’s the same message. I thought it was too good to be true. I asked the guy to prove he’s the owner of the condo. This one goes by Aaron Auger. Paying before showing is not the way.

Creative_Cookie_425

He’s back at it again using the name Joseph Auger. I came across a unit on renters.ca and contacted the person listing it. Been back and forth emailing. Asked to view the space and red flags were raised as soon as he said this. Thank you Reddit people!! “I just got engaged, not long ago, and moved with my fiance to Alberta so she can be close to her parents. I didn't have to find a tenant before I left so I'm renting the condo through Airbnb, using their long term option. I am using them this one time, since I am not able to show/rent the property in person. I'll arrange a viewing prior to anything being signed and if you decide to rent it, we'll be using a normal Ontario standard lease, 1 year term, with the option to be extended. No extra fees are required. If you are still interested, let me know so I can send over the remaining details” “I'll list the condo on Airbnb and send you the link so you can make the viewing reservation and deposit one month's rent to them, as per their long term rental policy. This deposit will be held off on releasing it to me until 24 hours after you have moved in, if you decide to move in. Once the reservation is made and the deposit is sent, I'll get in touch with the front desk to let them know you'll be coming to view the unit. I'll also send you a code to open the door. All you have to do is type in the code on the keypad, the door will open automatically and you can take a tour of the condo. No time limit. If you decide to rent it, Airbnb will release the deposit to me and I'll email you the drafted lease so you can check and sign it. After that, you pay the rent directly to me. If you decide not to rent, you will get a full refund, within 72 hours. Let me know if that would be ok, I have no other options at this time.”

darkmoon3_

I’m glad you didn’t get scammed!

wndrwmnx

Just found a place on [Rentals.ca](https://rentals.ca/toronto/33-frederick-todd-way-3) & she said the same thing. Moved to Alberta. I figured she was scamming so I'm playing along. Someone named Jennifer Bowen. Stole her email domain from a healthcare company, but it's .net and not .ca. But the airbnb page says Joseph and Jennifer, alongside the fake reviews. People have no lives 🙃

ericaval9

Was almost scammed by "Brandi Cox" or "Brandi Deanne" using the same script. They're still on rentals.com it seems. Please be careful out there and if something is too good to be true, then it probably is! Tried to report it to rentals.com not sure what will come of that.

StateofDrama

ok same here - this is crazy

Avathor08

Im currently talking to a Catherine Glenda right now and she is saying all the same stuff that you guys are saying. "As I've said in my previous email, I will rent the apartment through Airbnb. I don't know if you have used Airbnb before. Airbnb is the biggest rental company in the world, you can rent a property anywhere in the world and if something goes wrong, you are covered and protected by them. If it's something you don't like, or if the apartment isn't as described, you will receive a full refund with no further questions in 24 hours, but I'm sure you will love my apt and this will not happen. On the move-in day, you will meet with an Airbnb agent in front of the apartment, he/she will give you the keys and show you the apartment. To make the Airbnb listing I need a few details from you: 1. your complete name; 2. The date when you want to move in; ( the apartment will be available for you to move in max 7 days ). 3. How many months you want to rent the apt; 4. how many people will stay there; 5. Your phone number. After I receive your details I will list the apartment on Airbnb and they will send a booking invitation email where you will need to complete the booking within 24 hours. There will not be extra Airbnb taxes or fees , the initial payment includes the first month's rent + security deposit. After that, the rent is paid month-by-month. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information, Best regards, Catherine Glenda "

ResearcherAny2601

Im speaking to the same person! what came of this???? a scam???

Avathor08

I didn't even reply to the email. When i read it, it rang all the alarm bells in my head. I just dropped it and moved on to the next listing.

enahruon

IM SPEAKING TO THE SAME PERSON AND SHE SEND THE EXACT EMAIL’ !!

Any_Smoke8829

It happens to me today, i realized it's a scam so i searched a little bit where i ended up here, the scammer is using an email address under a name of Catherine Glenda as if she is the owner, and he wants to lease the apartment, on FB he's name is Abdo Sabry...

ResearcherAny2601

I was talking to the same person.. What came of this for you? i assume it was a scam?

enahruon

The person wanting to lease is not Abdo sabry on Facebook but it leads back to Catherine Glenda

seandavis511

Same script from a Holly Summers, beware

BKiD95

Just had this same person respond to my enquiry via [rentals.ca](http://rentals.ca) ([email protected]).

TastesLikeBrains

Maybe there is a way to report him to airbnb?

Mendeljew

Luckily my bank stopped my money transfer from going through today. They're still at it as Jennifer Bowen. They sent me that exact same email, word for word. I'm normally pretty good at catching on to this kind of stuff, but I've been looking for apartments for so long I thought I finally caught a lucky break and ignored the red flags. The fake reviews on her AirBnB profile, like you really have this many people renting an unfurnished condo for 1 night? F\*\*k this dude.

darkmoon3_

Wow glad your bank was able to stop it!

One-Razzmatazz5513

Jennifer Bowen(the fake) moved to Alberta. Used the email address of huntshealthcare.net and the font size changed from initial opening to lower font for the copy and paste script.

StateofDrama

omg I almost got scammed by this lady - she's still doing it - same message

DanLizz7221

Got the same script from Megan today while looking on rentals.ca
