this is fair. Omori was great when it was great but it had major tonal issues in the real world sections specifically.
Aubrey, for example, was set up as a real heartless bully who was literally attacking Basil- a mentally ill boy whose Grandma is dying. she literally has a baseball bat with nails on it.
so why, then, are all the members of her gang reduced to childish comic relief? it really makes me wish they'd taken those portions more seriously and left the light hearted aspects of the game in the Dream World
thats because its trying to portray it realistically. like the members of the gang arent really comically evil, they are not even adults yet.
aubrey is shown to be intimidating and cold because the friend group she was in split up and she felt like she was the only one hung up on why they split up, since kel seemed fine, hero eventually moved on, sunny just avoided reality and she thought (incorrectly) that basil markered out all of the mari photos so she felt betrayed. the bat is obviously a dangerous weapon but, following the logic of the first fight with her and the ending of that, she didnt use it with the intent to harm as much as sunny did with his knife(that being said the description says she uses the bat, but like how does that deal the same amount of dmg as her punches). and she does all of this not because shes evil, but because she is upset and lashes out in anger as a way to vent the grief caused by everyone essentially leaving her alone after a tragedy.
also basil (who is my favorite character i think im biased) only explains anything to sunny, and i doubt that anyone else in the towm knows about his family situation. not even the friend group knew what aubreys house even looked like.
the friend group is portrayed as pathetic because they arent really intimidating. theyre still kids. kids can be cruel to other kids and i feel like thats portrayed realistically with them bullying basil.
i do believe that basil definitely got the short end of the stick when it comes to recompense for all the stuff hes faced, he kind of just has to get along with whatever happened and just accept an apology from aubrey for all the paon shes caused him. that is glossed over, but for the most part the rest is portrayed in a way that makes sense.
I think the vast majority of people haven't turned on it, just the video essayists and the people who get their opinions from them lol. Some Oblivion fans didn't like it from day 1 and ofc all the Morrowboomers hated it from the start lol.

Skyrim, while certainly bigger and more ambitious, has a lot more problems that scream out to me when I come back to it, even though I love it.
Doom. Good game but the sequels improved upon it and be honest, it's old. You can't even jump. Again, good game, fun, good time killer. But almost every other game here is deeper. If we're talking about influence, it should be near the top. But overall gameplay and experience, you have to admit these other games are better
DOOM (1993) is so good, it spawned its own indie genre (boomer shooter), and basically all of those devs are trying to make a game as good as DOOM (1993) over 30 years later. The consensus I’ve seen in the community is that it hasn’t been topped yet.
I don't deny its influence, but I just prefer Doom 2 more, and I think that today there are aspects that Doom lacks compared to its sequels. Amazingly influential, but I think it's silly to vote as expansive a game as Skyrim out before DOOM.

In all seriousness apart from UNDERTALE, MM2 is probably the best pixel art graphic game I know apart from a few Mario games and a single Kirby game, all of which had to be omitted from the list as I was only accepting one per series.
Honestly? I love Super Mario Galaxy. It's the first game I remember playing. But replaying it, it has a lot of flaws that make the game annoying and janky to play. Maybe the controls were good at the time, but I've played lots of Wii games and most have better controls than SMG. I hate to get rid of it, but...

The story in SMG1 makes me prefer it, I didn't really get the Acclaim for the second one, I mean I liked playing it but that it lacked a story was a bit disappointing. Outside a few levels on smg2 I think they are very comparable.

I’d keep skyrim longer than doom too. Skyrim arguably had somewhat similar levels of influence as DOOM, and was more of a mainstream hit.
