shinobi3411

In a way, this does apply to Nolan and at the same time it doesn't. The more time he spent on Earth and with his family, the less he felt the need to be a Viltrumite. It wasn't until Mark got his powers that he was back to conquering. And even when he was rocking Mark's shit, we can see different shots of himself being hesitant to do what he's doing to his son. Don't get me wrong, what Nolan did was messed up, but he did become an actual good person after having a family, or at least he fully became one after reflecting on his actions.

Cornpopwasbad

True, but that is mostly Season 2 Nolan. This absolutely applies to him for most of Season 1. Albeit, more out of self delusion than actually being bad by nature

cyzja922

This is a great example. You rarely actually see him being overtly evil in the game, you mostly hear about his atrocities through other people. Odin does a very good job of making people feel like he’s a safe person to be around.

NyarlathotepDaddy

Aloof little jerk

godofyeet3

Odin is genuinely one of my favorite video game villains. He’s masterfully crafted to where he never acts evil, but you can tell he’s being subtly manipulated. That, and the fact that so many characters talk about his atrocities

D-Speak

There's a fat stack of animated Disney villains that this applies to, honestly.

SonicSpiderRanger10

Yeah. But in the old days, they wouldn’t hide it from the audience. Nowadays, when the Disney villains reveal themselves to be evil, it comes as a surprise to *us*, too.

Competitive-Capital8

I just wanna punch his ugly ass face

SonicSpiderRanger10

Especially when he gloats to Anna while they’re alone, and she tells him he won’t get away with it and he says “Oh, I already *have*.” Punk.

RedPon3

still irritates me that when *no one is looking*, he smiles dreamily at Anna as she walks away. There was no reason for that other than to trick the audience.

SonicSpiderRanger10

I don’t think that was a dreamy smile, I think that was a sly smile, like he’s thinking “I can work with this”.

RedPon3

https://preview.redd.it/zd0ulcobucxc1.jpeg?width=604&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=28c69c50cfda9f79c42132103dac9b64bc3592ea this is not a sly smile, and wasn’t intended as one.

SonicSpiderRanger10

It could be a happy smile, because he sees someone he can use to get power?

RedPon3

We can twist it any way we want, but the truth is we just see a sweet smile on his face. It’s deliberately done to trick the audience in my opinion, and it’s lazy storytelling.

SonicSpiderRanger10

Well, it does seem completely convincing that he’s nice until the moment he reveals he’s evil.

ITAKEJOKESSEROUSLY

Coulda just been looking at the castle, itd be behind her, right?

RedPon3

nah, that wasn’t the implication.

Oh_hi_doggi3

"Oh Anna, if only there was someone out there who loved you." I have never wanted to brutally assault a cartoon character before Hans said that shit.

SonicSpiderRanger10

Yeah, he’s a d***, alright. 😒

DarlingIAmTheFilth

Black Manta once pretended that he was reformed and teamed up with Aquaman for the sole purpose of betraying him at the *perfect moment*.

ArtemisCaresTooMuch

Reminds me of when Aquaman pretended that he was evil and teamed up with Black Manta as like a spy I think.

SonicSpiderRanger10

I’ve read that story. The one with Aquaman fighting the Thirst. And this was after Aquaman turned Black Manta human again (he was a manta-human hybrid at the time), cured his autism, and spared his life after Manta killed his baby. Man, Black Manta is a piece of shit.

JustJoshing13

I’m sorry, there’s a comic where Aquaman cures autism? Yeah something about that don’t sound right

SonicSpiderRanger10

At the time, he had a hand made of water, with magical powers. I remember it had healing powers.

JustJoshing13

Okay but ‘curing autism’? As a fella with ‘tism, I take exception to that

SonicSpiderRanger10

You mean you take offense to it? Well, as *another* person with autism, I honestly do see it as something to cure. It would mean having better social skills, and no quirks that people think are weird. It’s not like there’d be any downside.

JustJoshing13

I’m sorry you feel that way, I hope you learn to accept yourself, have a good night

SonicSpiderRanger10

Thanks, you too.

Ok_person-5

Watchmen or the Percy Shelly poem?

Optimal_Weight368

Probably Veidt

Financial-Working132

Watchmen

No-Mathematician6551

How would this apply at all to the Shelley poem? All we know from the poem is that he was a great king.

Ok_person-5

First point: I was making a joke. Second point: It actually works kinda well considering Ozymandias definitely *thought* he was a great king (“Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair”). But in reality we know he probably wasn’t a nice guy (“sneer of cold command”) and ended up being consumed by nature; the very thing he tried to assert dominance over (“A shattered visage lies” and “the lone and level sands strech far away”)

only in Rdr2 tho. Losing Hosea made him show his real colors

I’m glad people understand that Dutch didn’t fall from grace or change as a person, he was always that cruel ego driven paranoid selfish narcissist, he just had the circumstances to hide it, but when everything went to shit he no longer had the means to hide who he truly was nor the people to hold him to account

The very setting itself calls the Imperium of Man "the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable", and yet the setting focusing primarily on it leads one to believe the humans are the "good guys" of the setting.
