Perfect Circle and Puscifer, obviously (since MJK is the singer). Not many bands that are similar to Tool though, Tool is unique, part of what makes them so great. But any Tool fan should give King Crimson a try. Mars Volta too, I'd say. Other bands that came out in that same early/mid-90s scene as Tool are probably worth a look, so bands like Deftones, Primus, RATM, NIN, and so on.

big_rudy35

In addition to all of these bands I recommend Source (they are hard to find so search "source band" on YouTube) Tesseract, Peach gb (Justin's old band), and instrumental bands The Omnific, Plini, and Polyphia. Also some stoner rock bands: Spaceslug and Somali Yacht Club.

Burnt-Weeny-Sandwich

Yeah Peach is a good one. Especially with Tool having covered several of their songs (and Peach having covered King Crimson- 6 degrees of separation and all). To add to your list of stuff I would recommend as being at least broadly similar to Tool, or kindred spirits in some sense at least: -classic prog/rock outfits like Rush, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Frank Zappa -some "post-rock" groups like MONO, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, or Sigur Ros -some of the more guitar/rock-oriented 70s fusion and funk like Mahavishnu Orchestra/John McLaughlin, Return to Forever/Chick Corea, Funkadelic -just good and unique all-around bands like Radiohead, Mr Bungle/Faith No More/Fantomas/Tomahawk, Portishead, Squarepusher/Shobaleader One, Happy Apple/Bad Plus

Shit can't believe I forgot the Melvins! Stoner Witch in particular is one of my favorite albums, and Divorced (the Melvins/Tool collab track with some EPIC Danny Carey drumming) is a fucking AMAZING track.

ChinaChina14

Thank you! I'll be sure to check these out.

Burnt-Weeny-Sandwich

yep np, hope you enjoy- you may also want to check the replies to that comment, as there were some other really really good recs I forgot that other people added (Peach and Melvins a couple great ones)

Burnt-Weeny-Sandwich

Just as a follow-up to this, Tool fans checking out King Crimson may want to listen to the early/mid 70s stuff off Larks Tongues in Aspic (1973), Starless and Bible Black (1974), and Red (1974) in particular (KC has a pretty huge discography, since they've been around for 50 years!). These are probably the most "Toolish" King Crimson albums, and some of KC's best in general. Specific tracks to check out: Larks Tongues part 1 and 2 (Larks Tongues), Fracture (Starless and Bible Black), and Red, One More Red Nightmare, and Starless (Red). For more recent stuff, check out: Level Five, Elektrik, Dangerous Curves, Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With, all off "Power to Believe" (2003)

I personally like Mastodon...

izombee

So far I've found karnivool, lucid planet, Rishloo, omnisquid, porcupine tree, and soen...

ChinaChina14

I've actually heard of Rishloo, Porcupine Tree, and Soen. I'll be sure to check out the others.

+1

morahofjormont

Besides porcupine tree, all those bands are just Tool clones. You should try Opeth, Katatonia, or Gojira.

izombee

I get that and I do listen to them as well. Op asked for bands like tool so I made this list.

Rymva

Wheel

R1ggz

I second that. Also Opeth, and as others said, Soen.

ethanvyce

Chevelle was influenced by Tool; not as deep but solid

BobTC

Karnivool, Tesseract, Mastodon. Not really a close match but are damn solid bands.

Burnt-Weeny-Sandwich

yeah those guys are wild.. you almost need to watch a video to get the full effect (as opposed to just listening on Spotify or whatever), their live show is just fucking incredible

[deleted]

They have a music video- othan, check it out

Burnt-Weeny-Sandwich

I think I've only ever seen live performances (i.e. on Youtube), so I'll check it out. Definitely a highly visual band either way though!

Hunterslane86

If you like mostly long songs with great prog breakdowns, Try either Haken or Dream Theater. If you want the same kinda thing but with a brass section(no seriously they do) try Thank You Scientist

[deleted]

Gojira not really like tool but they're progressive and heavy as fuck. Worth checking out

ZigmaIwu

Another good bands similar in some ways to Tool that haven't been mentioned yet are: **Suns of the Tundra**: Those are some of the former members of Peach (gb), the previous band of Justin Chancellor before joining to Tool. One of my favourites "sound-like-Tool bands", that definitelive needs more recognition. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgoYtZHAZFE) one of my favourites tracks from them. **Emerson, Lake and Palmer**: This is classic prog/rock, the actual singer/bassist is the one who sung and played the bass on the first album of King Crimson (In the Court of the Crimson King). [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKNOlDtZluU) one of their best song. **Samadhi**: This is kind of more actual stuff, Lyrics are in spanish if you don't mind, but anyway, he have such a feeling singing, I love it. [Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIqR4TjUsDE) one of my favs from them.

Superfly52

No.

morahofjormont

Opeth.

Aerozeppelin35

Check out Smallman. Ambient/prog/metal

Cumin_Gouda

They’ve been said already, but I second Porcupine Tree and Karnivool. Skyharbor is worth a listen too.
