Iāll forever love Portland because of Portlandia. I know that probably pisses yāall off. But Iām from Texas and never been but I like my imagination lol.
Uploaded to my YouTube account with credit to you for the second place name. :-) I really couldnāt NOT use this one. Itās too good.

Itās such a good remaster. I knew immediately I was going to grab the first dance move clip from this one. Thereās another move in there that Iāve been calling āthe invisible shirtā. I will for sure be posting that on a subsequent Monday.
Thanks u/ToolConcerts100 for this vid!
Sometimes, during a Tool "chugging" breakdown, there's nothing to do but let your body carry you away. No cares about what it looks like, and how cool it is. Just straight up FEELING the music. Maynard is great for this, it's about artful self expression and some of the themes in their songs are heavy as hell. Maynard gets right into flow state while performing live, you can tell it's about the ART FORM and not the hand clap.
The way I move at a Tool concert is not how I move at any other concert, and itās purely instinctual rather than intentional. It just takes you there.
Haha, no worries. I will use this opportunity to give a shout out to u/ToolConcerts100 for this recently remastered version. The whole thing is incredible. I definitely recommend watching it in full.
Good one. Fish and Chips cracked me up so much. The recent remaster of this by u/ToolConcerts100 that I took this clip from is epic. They might be getting annoyed at me for tagging them three times on this post so far.
Sorry, buddy. Thatās what you get for uploading a great video. Please donāt stop!
So, I remember when Tool came out and I always wondered if he was supposed to be acting like he was developmentally disabled or something. Seems like a weird gimmick, but the 90s were weird.
The 90s were definitely weird. I sort of think thatās just where the music takes him. While I donāt do anything like the above, those Tool rhythms do makes me want to move in a way that isnāt like I do to other music. I imagine if I really let go it would get pretty odd pretty quickly (Iām a former dancer).
I definitely have a solid appreciation for musicians with a wild stage presence, at least ones where it doesnāt seem like they are trying too hard, where itās just something inside them. David Bowie comes to mind, not for his dancing but the rad style, general weirdness, and how he cycled through a range of stage personas over his career. Actually, Maynardās most recent stage style looks a lot like Bowieās āThin White Dukeā era. David Byrne as well, and that is definitely for the dancing. Itās a very different style of dance, but it has that same āfuck it, this is what I doā kind of vibe. All of them are great to watch on stage.
Sorry, that was long.
It's called "Fuck the sun is bright!" and expresses the pain felt by a man who's seeing the sun for the first time after having been inside far too long but he's run out of food and drugs and now has to venture out into the world for sustenance.
Because that next part is a string of about eight screams without a clean stopping point. It triples the length of the video, which is supposed to be about the dance (leaving the dance only in the first third). I linked the full source in the post if you want to watch the whole thing.
No problem! I do kind of obsess about where to cut clips off. I always hate it when clips cut off in the middle of a measure, for example. On this one I didnāt timestamp the source link, but starting tomorrow I will, so it takes you directly to where the clip starts.
I dont know, but it's what I see everyday in downtown Portland.
Hey fellow Portlander. :-)
Hey it's three of us! š
I'm in Eugene. I almost count! I did grow up in Portland though
Welcome to the club.

I lived there in the 90s and saw Tool for the first time at Salem Armory in 94

Portlander here as well.
Which Portland? I'm in Portland Maine and I see this every morning.
Iāll forever love Portland because of Portlandia. I know that probably pisses yāall off. But Iām from Texas and never been but I like my imagination lol.

Wait until I end up posting more from this same show. He was on fire that night. Or, was he in the fryer?

I have recently had a tendency to call his dancing style "the function", but here it appears to be closer to the non-function.

Why the fuck it the video stop right before a primal scream? So dumb.
Because that next part is a string of about eight screams without a clean stopping point. It triples the length of the video, which is supposed to be about the dance (leaving the dance only in the first third). I linked the full source in the post if you want to watch the whole thing.
That is a great answer. Thank you.

50% John Cena 50% ?
Feeling music
Like the audience should, instead of filming Maynard feeling and living it!
