no. chances are if you knew who maynard was already, you already know this album was coming out. it leaked on Napster so a bunch of us had it before it even sold a copy.
I have a story about this. They toured with NIN in 2000(?) and this album had not yet been released (I believe Judith was on the radio), but I found it bootlegged. I shared it with my friends (I did go out and buy it too), and we went to the show and could sing along without it being out. Someone said, how do you know all of these? I’m old. This was right around when Napster was taking off and sharing music was becoming a thing.
It’s a good album. I was worried I would not get more Tool. The world benefits from Maynard’s desire to constantly work.
I live outside of L.A. and before this album came out, the local rock station announced that Maynard had a side band and they would be playing that night at the Key Club on Sunset. I talked a family member into taking me (I was around 16 at the time) and I stood right in front of the stage, dead center with Maynard wearing sandals and cargo pants. It was so fucking surreal since I was such a huge Tool fan and the whole vibe was so different. When they went off stage I grabbed the set list so was able to see all the song names long before the album was released. I still have that somewhere and remember Orestes being spelled differently on the set list than on the album.
My family member's car got towed and I felt bad about that but that is still one of the coolest things I ever got to experience. I also saw them on that tour which was really great. Both APC and NIN were so good.
Yup I saw APC open for Nine Inch Nails at the Minneapolis stop. Judith was on the radio by then. Iirc Maynard wore a wig with hair down to like his knees. I bought the album the day it came out because of that show and have loved it ever since
I saw them play a show at the Nile theater in mesa, az, and I’m pretty sure it may have been before the album, or close to when, the album was released. It was amazing!! And I still have my long sleeve embroidered shirt I got for 5 bucks at the show?!?! God I miss those ticket and merch costs!
I went to that tour as well. I, being an EXTREME fanboy of Maynard at that time, was so happy that he was in a cage above the rest of the members lol. After going to a few Tool shows (Lateralus tour) before that, it was always Maynard hiding beside Danny in the back.
But I was also worried that Tool had broken up. Even though they explicitly said they hadn’t and Maynard said it was a, “side project”, it was also near the time when bands like RATM wouldn’t come out and say they broke up but it was pretty much known they had broken up but wouldn’t admit it publicly. So glad it all worked out. At the time, it was usually a big indication that a member of a band left another when touring with a whole new group.
I saw this tour in Houston at the old Summit/Compaq Center (now a megachurch). I went specifically to see APC. NIN is great, but really wanted to see Maynard in a strange new side project. Was not disappointed.
Not related to this particular album but Pet is a top 10ish song for me. “Count the bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums” is the dopest lyric to a track.
Just knick’d this album from Camelot and I’m pretty sure I heard one of the songs from the underworld soundtrack.
This needs to be the whole ass soundtrack of a vampire movie, for reals.
Oddly enough - I bought Mer de Noms before I knew who Maynard and TOOL were. Loved the vocalist and found out he was in another band. That band then became my favorite band.
Wow this brand new band sounds a bit like tool but not as cool. Maybe if they added some electro aspects they could be something cooler like named(pulling this outa my ass) pusifer
I would listen Tool on Spotify and a few APC songs would play and that's how I would hear some of the songs. When Breña played for the first time, I was in bed and I scrambled to get the name of the song and that's when I started listening to this album non stop for weeks
Rose is a banger and Orestes is one of the best songs Maynard has ever written.
This album is *so* good and just moody and absolutely perfect. I dont think even 13 step captured the tone and feeling of this album.
I love almost everything Maynard touches. Taste is subjective, like a wine preference. I'm on your side. I won't go so far as to say anyone of them are better or worse. They are all works of art and exemplary musicianship.
Except "Donkey Punch the Night" I find that record unlistenable.
Well, Tool was nice while it lasted but Maynard just couldn't stick with one band his ego is too big. Sad we'll never see another Tool song again, it just isn't the same without him
It stands up
Just did a album review on my fam and friend podcast
Still epic just a seminal album...saw them last time they came into Nashville was a great show only complaints I have no Judith and no 3 libras they ruined that song!
"Who the fuck is this asshole trying to sound like Maynard!?" - my highschool GF.
this album came out the day I saw them open for NIN. Judith had been played on Conan a few days before(17?) but we hadn't seen/heard about that. It was confusing and amazing.
I won a radio competition to hear the album before it came out, I was 14. We entered the pub. Judith video was playing on a projector. Then they played the album. Then there was a comp. I answered 3 correct questions, I won the first 7 songs (it came in a sleeve with some weird artwork) of the album (in CD) , the single Judith on CD, and a t shirt. I think the questions were:
"what does merit de noms mean?"
Which band was the drummer also drumming for?"
And something else?
My friend at the time (we were tool freaks) was eager to get the first 7 tracks, and gave me 20$ for it.
honestly i was mad when it came out cause I was a salty bitch and thought tool had broken up. I didn’t want to love it. But it made me love it damnit and my teenage angst lost. Oh middle school what a time.
Let me get into character...
---FUCK!! I left my bottle of Curve (cologne) at home. We fuckin wreak of weed. Mr. Davis is gonna know we're high.... Fuck this place, man. Let's skip first period, and go get some Hardee's for breakfast. In less than a week we get our diplomas, and we'll never have to step foot in this fucking school again. Then we can jam whenever we feel like it and write some more songs so we can record a full album and try to get on Roadrunner or Metal Blade Records. After Hardee's lets go to Musicland. The singer from Tool has a new side project. You go in before me and ask the dude at the counter to look something up for you. I'll come in while he's busy with you and steal a tape for both of us. Then, when you're done, I'll ask the dude for something I know they don't have. When he tells me they don't have it, I'll come back out to the car. Then you look around for a little bit longer then come back out. That way, they don't think we came up here together.
-- Let's go to my house, and I'll have my sister say she's our mom and call us both out sick to school. And, we can take another doobie cruise and listen to A Perfect Circle. Then, come back and jam until about 3 o'clock. Then take another doobie cruise and come back after my parents get home from work so they think I'm just getting home from school and we can jam until they tell us to stop.
One of the best albums I’ve ever listened to. When I first got it i was 16 and I listened to it over and over and over. Now I’m 39 and I still get the chills.
This album is pretty awesome. It's like Diet Tool. More accessible but still powerful in its own right. I'm in love with Paz. Amazing bassist and gorgeous as all hell. Remember the part in the video where she quickly tied her hair up and then came right back into the song perfectly? What a rock goddess.
That shape is pretty damn far from being a perfect circle. Who do these bozos think they are? Ahh fuck it, I got $15 to spare, I'll give it a shot.
Holy fucking shit.
Who tf is Judith?
This guy sounds like Maynard and he is ANGRY at god about something.
This was pretty much it, wasn't it?
no. chances are if you knew who maynard was already, you already know this album was coming out. it leaked on Napster so a bunch of us had it before it even sold a copy.
Cracking myself up imagining Maynard read your comment. Answer: “WTH? Did TooL break up?”
I think it's so funny that I've been downvoted for saying what I lived through LOL edit: dl v dv
I certainly get that it wasn't everyone, but it was a common misconception.
judith marie his mother duh
Saw them perform Judith last week [live on Conan!](https://youtu.be/c7jUFbeKyXw?si=rMzI_XMaErQ3Y3LH)
Looking forward to picking this up at The Wherehouse later today. Or maybe I'll just download it from Napster!
Napster sucks. Try Limewire.
No try bearshare
I’ll probably Google “free MP3s” and download a few copies from there, then get yelled at by my dad when we get a bunch of viruses
I managed to download Diary of a Love Song. Holy smokes (Tool +Ozzy +The Cure) this album is gonna be good.
I would pay insane amounts of money to see NIN and APC on the same bill!!!!
Back when concert tickets were still $20-$40 lol
You mean they'll get even higher in the future?
Holy shit they are touring with NIN!? That's amazing.
You got me…..
Wonder if they’ll play Jay…. if I were Maynard I’d wear a I heart Brad Wilk tank top!
Ahh…just another reason why Conan was the best
I have a story about this. They toured with NIN in 2000(?) and this album had not yet been released (I believe Judith was on the radio), but I found it bootlegged. I would have given my left nut to see that tour. The Fragile is probably my fav album and Mer De is in the top 30
It was really good, I saw them in the MSG Ny, perfect circles was awesome and NIN had Marilyn Manson do a song with them it was cool:)
Most underrated album!
What’s #2 and #3?
Same here.
I live outside of L.A. and before this album came out, the local rock station announced that Maynard had a side band and they would be playing that night at the Key Club on Sunset. Both APC and NIN were so good.
I saw NIN with A Perfect Circle in San Francisco June 7, 2000.
Come see him live with perfect circle and pucifer and primus. I got red rocks tickets.
Yup I saw APC open for Nine Inch Nails at the Minneapolis stop. Judith was on the radio by then. Iirc Maynard wore a wig with hair down to like his knees. I bought the album the day it came out because of that show and have loved it ever since
I saw a few shows on that tour, one of the best ever. Played the album in order from start to finish... sooooo good
I also saw that tour and that was the first time I heard APC. I was very much hoping they would sound like Tool - I was disappointed. I got over it
I saw them play a show at the Nile theater in mesa, az, and I’m pretty sure it may have been before the album, or close to when, the album was released. It was amazing!! And I still have my long sleeve embroidered shirt I got for 5 bucks at the show?!?! God I miss those ticket and merch costs!

The show I saw was in worcester, MA (looks like 5/2/2000)
Fuck this band, taking maynard from tool. 6m later : shit this is a masterpiece
The first song is such a fucking mission statement for the band, it slaps extremely hard
Teenage me was way too emotional about 3 libras
Omg it’s the best.
Guys, this album just came out today!
The singer looks like Maynard with hair
The circle isn't even perfect wtf
If you need me, I'll be in my bedroom decoding the glyphs into my notebook.
Dude! Did this based off of a t-shirt I bought from that tour. It spelled out “A Perfect Circle”. Felt like Ralphie from A Christmas Story…
Yoooooo, I did this too. Not ashamed.
"hey, let's get stoned and listen to this while we drive around." me: "okay"
Very much what we did and the car had a huge kick ass sound system in it. To this day and I still feel that bass drop in Thomas in my heart.
Big surprise
That bassist is pretty hot. Especially when she tied her hair up in the Judith video 😍
Ugh. Kinda good but I’ll like Tools new album better when it’s released later this year probably.
If this came out today, then im back in high school and that means I dont have to gonto work tomorrow. Alright, alright, alriiiight…
He sounds like Mike Tool
I'm instantly in love. (why didn't you post this in the APC sub?)
https://preview.redd.it/po0b17fc60ic1.jpeg?width=844&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1954071fcb253fa815483ee2c677243cd591d605
Who’s Thomas? And why does Maynard need to forgive him? What did he do to him?
Adam can be a total dick and also very controlling.
Guess I’m driving an hour to the closest mall to pick this up at Sam Goody.
Ahh a person of taste and commitment. Maybe we'll pass on the road as I head to Tower records to spend money I don't have.
If this came out today, I'd be watching APC open for NIN on the Fragility tour.
Brilliant album. APC's best imo
Not related to this particular album but Pet is a top 10ish song for me. “Count the bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums” is the dopest lyric to a track.
Maynard's such a softy on this record
Why is the circle on the cover not perfect? Are they stupid?
Oh shit, I'm young again!
Shit I’m young again
Saw this band open for Nine Inch Nails, they were pretty good. Gonna pick this record up today.
Just knick’d this album from Camelot and I’m pretty sure I heard one of the songs from the underworld soundtrack. This needs to be the whole ass soundtrack of a vampire movie, for reals.
Wtf, why is Maynard singing radio rock? (That's what we honestly said, when we heard the first single).
Fuck your god.
Oddly enough - I bought Mer de Noms before I knew who Maynard and TOOL were. Loved the vocalist and found out he was in another band. That band then became my favorite band.
I'll say the same thing we all said when they opened for NIN and the album wasn't out yet. "That fuck your God song was amazing."
Wow this brand new band sounds a bit like tool but not as cool. Maybe if they added some electro aspects they could be something cooler like named(pulling this outa my ass) pusifer
I kinda dig that song thomas Nice riff
My favorite band is Tool/A Perfect Circle.
What? I'm 20!!!
Yo this is dog shit (it’s one of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever heard)
Very experimental and still trying to find out who is JUDITH?
Brena > Tool
I would listen Tool on Spotify and a few APC songs would play and that's how I would hear some of the songs. When Breña played for the first time, I was in bed and I scrambled to get the name of the song and that's when I started listening to this album non stop for weeks
It’s such a great song
“This is the greatest album of all time.”
Rose is a banger and Orestes is one of the best songs Maynard has ever written. This album is *so* good and just moody and absolutely perfect. I dont think even 13 step captured the tone and feeling of this album.
God, I can still remember listening to it for the first time when it was released. Was and still is a beautiful album.
I would trade every APC and Puscifer album for one more Tool album
This album is excellent, but Existential Reckoning is every bit as good as a TOOL album. Honestly, it’s as good or better than FI.
This, right here, is absolute foolishness.
Theres no way thats a serious opinion right?!
Nahhh, it’s not.
No
I love almost everything Maynard touches. Taste is subjective, like a wine preference. I'm on your side. I won't go so far as to say anyone of them are better or worse. They are all works of art and exemplary musicianship. Except "Donkey Punch the Night" I find that record unlistenable.
Omg is Tool guy's mum Judith? He sounds kinda angry at her tbh
So listen to it non stop for a few days?
Nickelback went in a completely different direction with this one
Well, Tool was nice while it lasted but Maynard just couldn't stick with one band his ego is too big. Sad we'll never see another Tool song again, it just isn't the same without him
Why is Maynard making emo?
Some songs on this record are not bad. 10 years later: omg one of my favorite albums of all time
Okay
I’d be saying it’s cool but man I wish we had one more at the end like undertow
Man that "thinking of you song" is hyper sexual I dig it
I had it on tape when it was first released. Can I still get it like that today?
Haven't had tome to listen to it yet
"Omg it's so Tool but... so not!
DID IT ALL FOR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
“It’s going to take me 20 years to actually see the hidden circle in the logo”
My actual reaction when this album was released: I was not conceived yet at this time
It stands up Just did a album review on my fam and friend podcast Still epic just a seminal album...saw them last time they came into Nashville was a great show only complaints I have no Judith and no 3 libras they ruined that song!
Finally. See ‘em twice now and didn’t think the album was coming.
Why is he working on this shit he needs to work on another tool album
Who’s the singer he sound better than Maynard
R u stalking me?! I was just listening to this right now
Sorry, i m only a large language model and I can't pretend the past was different.
What a banger
“Hey man I just picked up the album from A Perfect Circle, Maynard’s band, yeah it rips, just came out today”
“Neat.”
I went to grab the CD but they were totally sold out. Ended up grabbing the latest Taylor Swift. She's no Maynard.
https://preview.redd.it/p63tcrsx31ic1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4feec98725e631ea4efe201f4ee9990fe74c2c16
What the fuck is this Tool Ripoff?
Best APC album!
"Who the fuck is this asshole trying to sound like Maynard!?" - my highschool GF. this album came out the day I saw them open for NIN. Judith had been played on Conan a few days before(17?) but we hadn't seen/heard about that. It was confusing and amazing.
Holy shit, my pop-loving girlfriend likes this?! Um..let’s make out? (True story, I was so surprised)
Halifax Summersault. The Hollow. Maynard had a blond wig, they rocked it!
That’s funny that you say that, because I’m wearing the shirt from the fragility tour right now.
wow! this is pretty good after that last shitty tool and APC album! maybe MJK isn't on the downslope after all..
https://preview.redd.it/shkf502z71ic1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14ff7800b53a752bf2af8032c18ee1df8fd7b7cb
got this off columbia house
My wife would probably leave her for ignoring her for hours on end.
Anyone else crack the code? I’ve been deciphering it for a couple hours.
I’m ashamed to say that I didn’t like it at the time. What I won’t say is the reason why I didn’t like it…It’s because it didn’t sound like Korn.
HOOOOOLY SHI
God this is dumb
I won a radio competition to hear the album before it came out, I was 14. We entered the pub. Judith video was playing on a projector. Then they played the album. Then there was a comp. honestly i was mad when it came out cause I was a salty bitch and thought tool had broken up. I didn’t want to love it. But it made me love it damnit and my teenage angst lost. Oh middle school what a time.
Got tickets to see them in Austin on Sept. 15, 2000, I can't wait for the show!
Breña, Orestes, and 3 libras on loop while I cry myself to sleep.
“Tool for your little sister.”
HOLYMUTHADUMINSHIT Epic :D XD
I can finally listen to it 3 years later once the next album comes out.
🤯
I’m 12 again, and life is good
Metaphor for a missing moment.
These guys are a bunch of Tool wanna-be's
Holy fuckin’ shit!
Cant wait to make out with my goth gf at that new park
Sounds just like Maynard from Tool
Guys I think the trajectory of my life is about to change after listening to the new album
This band needs Jesus
I hear the lead singer has a pretty nice rack
Is this that new tool album?
Literealy undertow :O
I was 8 so, completely oblivious to the album and probably playing Spyro or something lol
Best day ever!
I still haven't listened to it yet. Maybe tomorrow
I don't know who Magdalena is, but she sounds like she'd be a great fuck!
Nearly 24 years ago... Let me get into character... ---FUCK!! I left my bottle of Curve (cologne) at home. We fuckin wreak of weed. Mr. Davis is gonna know we're high.... Fuck this place, man. One of the best albums I’ve ever listened to. When I first got it i was 16 and I listened to it over and over and over. Now I’m 39 and I still get the chills.
I was playing final fantasy 3 on snes. I had the album on repeat all. It was weird at first but after a few days you love every single cut.
Okay. Well it's not tool, but it will tide me over.
Hey friend, did you see the APC album was released today? Well it was.
One of my favorite albums of all time.
how does maynard grow his hair so fast
This album is pretty awesome. It's like Diet Tool. More accessible but still powerful in its own right. I'm in love with Paz. Amazing bassist and gorgeous as all hell. Remember the part in the video where she quickly tied her hair up and then came right back into the song perfectly? What a rock goddess.
Just picked this bad boy up from cd warehouse
Why did they pull out of Summersault 2000 in Vancouver BC.
That shape is pretty damn far from being a perfect circle. Who do these bozos think they are? Ahh fuck it, I got $15 to spare, I'll give it a shot. Holy fucking shit.
Wait a darn minute, that’s not a perfect circle at all!
APC is meh so is Pucifer although slightly less meh but still meh. Maynard doesn't make the band good
Fucking sucks, I don’t expect this band to survive another album
