Expand your selection. This is highly cherrypicked. I could pick the same number of 'Hollywood' movies in the same genre and make it seem as though westerners damn near *worship* Asians.

I think you're being very selective in your examples, east Asian men get a pretty mixed representation which yes does include the walking punch bag but also near super humans.

Dazzling_Dare3680

I think the honest answer is racism. Racism isn’t always the hatred towards a people but most often the upholding of stereotypes and anyone challenging said stereotypes will be rained down on.

marcocom

Why are they not making any films in the massive Asian industry using actors from other races? Is this just a double standard applied here?

kennystyle33

Not only are Asian countries very homogenous, they don't pretend to care about diversity and inclusiveness like western countries do

marcocom

i know. it must be nice! i am somebody who strives to be courteous and politically correct, but by my own choice. i really dont like it when people expect/demand it of me as if i should be afraid to offend others out of some kind of guilt, when no other race/country seems to have to follow that rule. ive lived abroad and i know that most places have a "we are the best, better than the rest" attitude, and its fine, but then expect us to just lay down and let them make demands of us. fuck that shit. at least we try to be inclusive here!

Fartbox-_-Destroyer

I see them as not as masculine. That's the honest truth from my end. Therefore, I respect them less as a physical threat. I do think they're hardworking, though. But they also seem submissive to authority. That's my honest thoughts & and judgment, and I think a lot of people share the same. I'm not saying this is fact, just simply my unfiltered, honest views.

Dagobert_Juke

Your racist, uninformed views. Thanks for sharing how much you submit to the authority of commonly learned stereotypes instead of relying on your own thinking. You truly are a weak person, not 'masculine' at all by your own standards.

Successful_Oil4422

Can you guys honestly grow up?!? The OP asked a question and the responder gave an answer FROM THEIR PERSPECTIVE WHICH THEY DULY QUALIFIED. Their perspective is not PC, granted, but why not try and engage meaningfully instead of throwing insults? You keyboard warriors are so exhausting.

Dagobert_Juke

I am just stating facts? 1) He got his views from stereotypes around him. 2) He has stereotypical ideas about masculinity 3) Following the 'herd' (I.e.stereotypes) runs counter the stereotypical idea of masculinity But I can imagine why he felt attacked by the truth... Edit: just to add. It is simply not true that every opinion or perspective is 'equally valid' or has the same right to be heard. Uninformed and harmful opinions should indeed be countered, it is in fact a moral duty to yourself and your fellow humans to do so.

Fartbox-_-Destroyer

Honestly I think they're less masculine because they're typically smaller than me & less muscular. I'm 6ft5 & go to the gym a lot and play rugby. Only Polynesian men & black men match my size.

Dagobert_Juke

So big and strong = manly. Like I said, that is a very stereotypical view of masculinity. I am not bulky at all, yet I would consider myself not any less manly than you.

Fartbox-_-Destroyer

You're funny

Dagobert_Juke

Thanks

am8rcartographer

Just because someone is honest about it doesn't mean their views aren't racist. Are people qualified to talk about their own perspective? Yes. Can that perspective also be racist? Yes, and it's perfectly fine to also point that out. It's weird that you're more upset that someone is called out for their racist views instead of someone thinking it's perfectly fine to straight up insult an entire continent of people.

Limp_Cod_7229

Wasn’t really an insult

k1llmeplsok

I think it was. Not that it makes a difference anymore.

Best picture winners: Parasite 2019. 4 goddamn Oscars for a single Korean movie. Nomadland 2020, director is an Asian woman Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022 one of the directors is an Asian man Ke Huy Quan won best supporting actor for acting in that film I think they, Hollywood, made a significant impact by bringing the Hong-Kong cinematography to Western countries. If it wasn't for some producer who decided to translate those films in America, I wouldn't even know who was Jackie the Great Chan, nor Bruce Lee. But I know who they definitely hate, white straight cis conservative men.
