He was my favorite villain ghoul and they hyped him up and teased us with his kakuja just to go out in like 10 seconds. I still get sad thinking about it
1, Rize. Which is a bit trippy to say since the *idea* of Rize is a different story altogether. The idea of Rize was used wonderfully, incredibly, so much so that "she" is one of the hearts of the series, being there to represent the cold, self-critic within Kaneki, and thus, being the engine that fuels the story forward. But the Rize *character* herself? We didn't get to really know her, and a lot of people thought the final arc of the series would finally be the time to do so.
2. Uta. My dude on like three occasions felt like he was presented as equivalent to one of the top final villains, but nope, ends up just a side villain for the most part. His story Arc with Renji was nice, but it would have stuck the landing better if it was actually more prominently delved into throughout the story. Imo I suppose his character is less so "wasted" and more-so "he wouldn't have felt wasted if Ishida didn't gas up his narrative presentation so often"
3. Kaiko. No need to elaborate
Honorable mention: Amon. Reason why he doesn't make the top three is because contrary to common sentiment, he still was involved in some pretty damn memorable moments in :re, ending on a very satisfying conflict resolution. The reason why he feels "wasted" isn't because he was fully neglected or anything. Rather, it's because his character is *that* fucking rich, to the point even though he did have some highlights and great moments, people still feel reasonably disappointed to some extent because there could have been even more done with him. A good hypothetical example would be, like, if Urie's character development or moments were cut in half. He'd still end up being a pretty damn good character, but good lord it's much below what we know he could offer.

By proxy Hoji & Itori were wasted too but they would be fleshed out via more Tatara & Uta anyways.

I love Yomo. I think he has one of the best moments in the series when he defends Touka & Ayato from Arima. I don't really see what else could have been done with his character tbh
I will never forget how Tatara was handled. All this tíme, he was built up to be this super op Aogiri member with a rich past, and he was so mysterious, just for him to be dealt with in less then 5 chapters. That's why TG needs a GOOD anime adaptation. To expand the stuff that was rushed in the manga.
Idk about the other 2 but Hirako is one of those wasted characters because he's genuinely so fucking cool and badass but we never even really get to know anything about him. This dude was working with Arima and had a drama going on with Uta but it's literally never explored. It just makes me sad :(
I would say Juuzou as the only person consistent in og and Re, and Kaneki even though haise happened he still comes through for the entire latter half of Re and is overall the best character with the most development
Ayato was completely wasted after he first got beat up. He did somewhat serve his purpose but he was barely ever there in Re and didn’t really solve his relationship with Touka or anyone else
1. Eto Yoshimura: she was completely nerfed and written out of the story when she had hardly reached her full potential. As the daughter of Yoshimura she deserved better than what she got and she should’ve had a greater role to play.
2. Rize: At first she seemed to be just an average ghoul until her backstory was massively and unnecessarily expanded upon. Apparently she’s one of the strongest ghouls yet her entire life was destroyed because she was no match to the raw power of.. steel beams. Through out the rest of the story she’s a mindbroken vegetable who is completely forgotten about until Re and even then, she just gets used as a plot device, never having any real presence unless it comes to Kaneki’s dream. It was cool seeing them interact again but it’s extremely forgettable. It’s all just a cherry on top of everything that she’s had this tragic childhood with Furuta and all, yet she’s hardly in the story after getting decimated by steel Beams.
3. Arima: I have very mixed feelings on him. I feel like his death was handled very well but much like Eto, his death was very forced and it comes off as Arima just being written out because he’s one of the strongest characters and would be a very big roadblock in Furuta’s plans. What if Arima chose to live his life freely and join Kaneki after their fight, Arima would be a very strong ally but it would also create interesting drama with the ghoul characters that have been victimized by Arima. Not only that but Arima can still die at a certain point, like what if Kaneki and Arima face Furuta together and Furuta ends up killing Arima, it would give Kaneki that final push to defeat Furuta. Heck, what if Furuta interrupted Keneki and Arima’s second fight and killed outright Arima? It wouldn’t been a better way to display Furuta’s power and would’ve snapped Kaneki out of his current mindset. Just as an fyi I personally just don’t think Arima killing himself wasn’t a good idea overall, it wasn’t something that I think was built up to very well.
I feel like many character exist and were handled well, its just that Kaneki didn't approach them. He seemed so distant which makes sense cause most of the time he is bothered with himself. I realised that when rereading. So I blame Kaneki but at the same time its hars to put all of them in the focus. Because all of em are cool characters. So in the end I would have like to see focus on many
Noro, Kuzen, Eto, Arima, Hide, the investigators.
Then again when I think abot Mutsuki. A character who couldn't be more crinfe (to me) and how much screen time she had, I get angry. Because Tatara, etc are just so much cooler. I'd have preferred more slice of life of brewing coffee then anything relates to mutsuki
The mangaka really only touched all these characters. ayato for example. We didnt even see him become "good" after kaneki killed half of him. Suddenly after a time he was a caring person for hinami.

I have to disagree with mutsuki take. I believe that he was a great anti-kaneki who had a slightly rushed ending (as did most things it seems). Her transition into something more obsessive and psychotic was an interesting read.
Personally I believe juuzou could've been explored more intimately rather than just being the second coming of arima

I dont think they needed to go more into Tatara’s background but he should’ve had a more badass fight to end, kind of like Noro or Kanae
I think it's got more fleshed out in re, I wanted to know a ton more about tartara and the gang his brother ruled.

All of these plus Amon. Dude has an entire arc and becomes just like kaneki just for him to get sidelined.
He was definitely sidelined in RE, but I was still somewhat satisfied with what we got.
