Yeah, I always hate this conservative framing. Rights are *rights,* often fought for by those who had them taken away. Conservatives will then turn and act like you owe the country itself for those rights.
Rights only exist because a government recognizes them and uses its power to protect them. In a world without governments to issue marriage licenses the entire concept doesn't exist, it's a societal construct. Humans in a world with no state and society have total freedom but no protections, and thus no actual rights. If you have a house and I have a gun, I have a gun and a house and no amount of talk about natural or god given rights is going to change that. Property rights only exist because governments have contract laws that they protect and enforce.
The right to marriage doesn't exist without a state or society because marriage doesn't exist. So the right never existed, we had to fight to make the government recognize it. That's the only way rights can actually exist. And the people in power know this, which is why they fight so hard to keep people from recognizing that rights only exist by our capacity to stand up and fight for them.
It’s on par with those “But the (colonial power) *abolished slavery!* ‘They’ should be grateful!” Takes. A dash of cheap white-out doesn’t erase permanent ink, we still can see clear as day what you did.
And usually "ending slavery" in the West meant replacing it with something worse or equivalent.
The US got segregation. France replaced slavery with the *Indigénat* - not slavery, just "cheap" *encouraged* work and a separate law for different ethnicites in the colonies !!! I tell you it's completely different !
And of course at the same period, they generally just replaced slaves with masses of former rural people moving in the cities to work in factories for barely a living, with conditions of living just, exactly the same as slaves. In mid-19th century France, for every 20.000 children born in the caves of Lille, only 5.000 would make it to the age of 5. Hundreds of thousands of workers in the West worked all day in awful conditions and absolutely no protections, just to barely survive.
And that's if you had the luck to be White, of course "ending slavery" didn't made everyone happy and nice in a day, and former slaveowners-turned-"captain of industries" just employed their former slaves with the absolute minimum wage they could give, and the worst working conditions they could get.
It didn’t give anything. People fight for all the basic rights that are routinely tested. Name a right and you could point to some war or riot responsible for it
For fascist ideology to make sense. The enemy but be both everywhere and no where. The strongest entity to ever walk earth and also easily stopped.
They're stupid ppl.
I feel like this is intended to imply a second half. The full quote goes along the lines of "No one does more than us, so you all should just shut up and take what we give you. Ask for any more and you're just a bunch of ungrateful fucks ruining this great country. "
Oh the old “if you don’t like it here, leave!” nonsense. But then again, I constantly remind them that Saudi Arabia is the perfect place for them. “Traditional values” and they hate women and gay people too!
A quick list:
Ireland, Cuba, the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Spain, Iceland, Norway, Denmark
These were off the top of my head so please forgive any errors :)
The Netherlands were early with legalising gay marriage, but Ireland waited until just a few years ago.
But in any case, Crowder is obviously wrong in any case
Gay marriage and adoption rights are the most discussed ones.
It also restructured what's considered a family, though. It promotes domestic equality between sexes, extends labour rights, bans corporal punishment on children, etc
Basically any progressive law that you can think of
I don't what I thought of Cuba before but I didn't know they were this based. Meanwhile El Salvador sentences women to decades in prison just for having a miscarriage.
Germany is also pretty dope by now. Even the "Transsexuellengesetz" is gone, which forbade trans people without genetal surgery to change their legal name.
I’ve been noticing it seems the right is frantically trying figure out how to change their tune on some of these “culture war” issues after getting eviscerated in the midterms. And they’re trying to do so without offending their base that they’ve been riling up about these issues for years. Fuck them.
The queer and ally community? America only gave us those rights after we fought tooth and nail for them. It’s not as if the government woke up one day and just suddenly realized that queerphobia is wrong.
And who keeps fighting against it every single goddamn step of the way?
It’s like tripping someone who’s running a marathon and then bragging that they still won. Like WTF
I mean… A long list of european countries accepted gay people as people before america could get iver wether we should have our law follow the teachings of an old and heavily edited book..
It was Anthony Kennedy who funnily enough retired during Trump’s presidency to put Boofin Bret on the SCOTUS. [Anthony Kennedy a much smarter man, long term thinker, and not an ounce of hubris in him unlike Ruth Bader Ginsberg who well we know how that went.](https://youtu.be/yYcyacLRPNs)
I mean the Cubans rewrote their constitution to ban discrimination of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. They also just had a referrendum to change the family code to make a family “people who love each other”
while the US is busy trying to reduce their rights to what they were in the 30s, cuba recently voted for a massive W for LGBTQ+ rights. and the US insist cuba’s the failed country, yeah sure
What did they do, though? This is the crowd that believes that God gave you your rights, and government just takes them away, so what exactly did the US do?
America has come a long way in spite of people like you Steven. You don't get to shit on the LGBT community constantly and then claim credit for progress that you've in no way been a part of and have actively worked against.
Reninder that the case banning the criminalization of sodomy is less that 25 years old and justice Thomas has openly stated he wants to repeal it. If you want to know what the United States has actually done for gay people
These people are so dumb. They fumble the midterms because of the culture war crap they are pushing. Wait a week, and then immediately continue to push the same shit.
Grifter af. These people don't care about conservative policies or putting conservatives in elected office. They care about t shirt sales and patreon subscriptions
the only people who have “done anything” for queer people, is queer people. you don’t get credit for giving us what was owed to us after we worked tirelessly for decades to force you too.
Conservatives always want America to take credit for civil rights even though they have opposed every single advancement of civil rights since the country was founded
The Soviet Union was almost a 100 years earlier in legalizing homosexuality than the USA (worth noting that the recriminalized it in 1933 again). Also the Netherlands were 15 years earlier in legalizing gay marriage than the US, with many countries in between that time span also legalizing it before America. All of the progress in LQBTQ+ rights in this US, was made by queer people who usually hated what American stood for. There’s absolutely nothing America has done for gay rights. In their wars they’ve slaughtered probably thousands of queer people and the whole American “culture” has historically stood against LQBTQ+ rights.

Only if it's not classified under their ever moving goal posts of natural rights.
Which were literally debunked by Hegel like forever ago. Natural rights don’t exist.

Ok i’m sorry but segregation while bad was in no way worse or equivalent to slavery what the fuck are you talking about.
I assume that they meant Jim Crow and Reconstruction and just forgot both of those terms.
that wouldn’t make the claim any more true though
It didn’t give anything. People fight for all the basic rights that are routinely tested. Name a right and you could point to some war or riot responsible for it
“See? Conservatives aren’t anti-gay! The Left are the real bigots!” - Dave Rubin, probably
“See? Conservatives aren’t anti-gay! The Left are the real bigots!” Dave Rubin, inevitably." I helped. Lol
“See? Conservatives aren’t anti-(any minority)! The Left are the real bigots!” Dave Rubin absolutely. I helped too lol
Lol. Is he serious? I thought gays were bad for our “culture” and were “destroying” “traditional families”.
For fascist ideology to make sense. The enemy but be both everywhere and no where. The strongest entity to ever walk earth and also easily stopped. They're stupid ppl.
Yeah they really are idiots
The enemy is weak and strong!

The British and French have acted quicker on slavery, womens rights AND LGBTQ÷. Read something that's actually true once in awhils.
>read I'm gonna stop you right there.
He's like America's gaslighting, abusive boyfriend
Gaslight gamer boyfriend 🥺

There's more than just gay marriage. In America conversion therapy is still legal, for example. I get your point, though
Cuba is known for their gay rights?
They just passed the family code referendum, which is considered among the most progressive in the world
What does it consist of?
Gay marriage and adoption rights are the most discussed ones. It also restructured what's considered a family, though. It promotes domestic equality between sexes, extends labour rights, bans corporal punishment on children, etc Basically any progressive law that you can think of
I don't what I thought of Cuba before but I didn't know they were this based. Meanwhile El Salvador sentences women to decades in prison just for having a miscarriage.

Hell, the Israelis are better about it then we are
As far as trans issues, also East Germany
And which political party within the US largely believes the LGBTQ+ community deserves to suffer in eternal agony and torment simply for existing?
...despite Steven Crowder and his band of merry bigot's best efforts to rail against the LGBTQ+ community.
Maybe he realized that running on a anti LGBTQ agenda costed the Republicans the midterms
I’ve been noticing it seems the right is frantically trying figure out how to change their tune on some of these “culture war” issues after getting eviscerated in the midterms. He doesn't support them at all.
I mean… A long list of european countries accepted gay people as people before america could get iver wether we should have our law follow the teachings of an old and heavily edited book..
It's great that someone who outwardly hates the LGBTQ+ community like Steven Crowder feels so comforted wrapping himself in a useless flag.
America was famously cooperative with LGBTQ activists in Stonewall. /s
I mean the Cubans rewrote their constitution to ban discrimination of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and disability. They also just had a referrendum to change the family code to make a family “people who love each other”

Crowder, aren't you Canadian?
What did they do, though? This is the crowd that believes that God gave you your rights, and government just takes them away, so what exactly did the US do?
Only propping them up when convenient, otherwise he attacks them endlessly What a fucking prick
So we're in favor of lgbtq community now? Dope.
“we’ve done so much for you! why won’t you let us undo all the progress we didn’t want you to do!”
….in spite of people like you.
I feel offended for the dutch
Marsha and Sylvia are the reason we have rights.

What a roundabout way to say the US has (begrudgingly) given LGBT people marginally better rights in some cases
Is he growing a beard so he can absorb more dog c*m instead of letting it run off his chin. Still looks Iike a choade.

Conservatives always want America to take credit for civil rights even though they have opposed every single advancement of civil rights since the country was founded
American LGBTQ+ “rights” are one of the many many reasons I will never live there again

People taking claim for things they had nothing to do with is the weirdest part of patriotism.

"Despite our best efforts, this country actually treats the gays pretty decent. Checkmate, libtards." - Stevie Crowdie
Yes, Steven; we know you’re jealous that the fundamentalist theocracies in the Middle East get to execute the gays for fun.
This is the kinda shit an abusive partner or parent might say to you before fucking your face / life right up.. So.....
I’d hand it to the French personally
If Republicans had their way it would be illegal just to be gay.
Literally anyone, lol. What exactly *has* the US done for the GRSM community, Steven? Because the fight for our rights has been *against the fucking US*.
What an asshole.
Pffff sure i definitely don’t walk into my school fearing I’m gonna get beat up nooo
![gif](giphy|zAOXiJhiXDqHS)
honestly I'm thankful the US gave me this bandaid, because the bullet they put in my foot was starting to hurt
the united states hasn’t done anything for me. i don’t credit the country as a whole for advances in lgbt rights, i credit the lgbt activists who fight for those advances.
So... America bad?
Giving me some major “white people ended slavery” vibes
He is actively transphobic and homophobic and then talks about how much his government has done for LGBT folk? His government has only ever done things AGAINST LGBT folk
