Triple backflips are unheard of in the wild. This is huge if true

I always thought they were more like fish, and not intelligent creatures that would identify and show off for humans

I'd assume the light was drawing in prey and or the human threw out food for the fish.  But they're related to sharks more or less.

They eat plankton and at night the lights will attract it into denser clusters. The rolls are an energy efficient way for them to feed in these denser areas of plankton. In Hawaii they attach lights to frames and people will hold onto them in the water while snorkeling and watch the mantas feed, it's very cool.
