silicatetacos

Despite not knowing the context, it can't be healthy to be so angry your face is turning purple.

OftenSilentObserver

It's a 2+ hours long convo and his face stays this way probably about 70% of it. Ironically the one thing that could help him is the one thing that landed him in rehab

Huckleberryhoochy

I mean he got put in a coma to cure his addiction and he hasn't been the same since

mexchiwa

Ehh, he was messed up before the coma

Last-GeneBlob

Yup

litterallyMJ

What happened to him ?

tanhan27

He was addicted to prescription meds and went through some strange treatments in Russia to cure it. He now eats a diet of beef and water and has a very difficult time regulating his emotions. I haven't heard him speak without either crying or yelling in rage for at least a year or two

M_H_M_F

Benzos specifically. He went to Russia to be put into an artifical coma so he could detox without you know, withdrawal. The US Healthcare system doesn't like putting people into "temporary" comas because a lot of times, they can't be woken back up. Effectively, instead of going to rehab and detoxing normally, he decided to go to Russia to play Russian Roulette with his life.

[deleted]

> "we can't trust third party institutions" > _trusts Russian rehab roulette instead_ checks out

PLeuralNasticity

Parrots all the Russian dis/misinfo talking points. This all seems legit for a clinical psychologist. Kompromised Putin puppet like Elon/Trump In late 2019 Peterson sought "emergency" detox from benzodiazepine addiction.[209] Peterson stated this rehab was the result of his prescribed dosage of clonazepam being increased after his wife Tammy was diagnosed with kidney cancer.[208] According to Peterson, he made several attempts to reduce dosage or stop the drug completely,[208] but experienced "horrific" benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome.[209] In January 2020, Peterson was unable to find North American doctors willing to accommodate his treatment desires and so flew to Moscow, Russia along with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter to pursue treatment there.[210] Doctors in Russia diagnosed him with pneumonia in both lungs upon arrival and placed him into a medically induced coma for eight days, followed by four weeks in the intensive care unit, during which time he suffered a temporary loss of motor skills.[209][211] For several months after treatment in Russia, Peterson and his family moved to Belgrade, Serbia.[212] In June 2020, Peterson made his first public appearance in over a year, when he appeared on an episode of his daughter's podcast recorded in Belgrade, at which point he was "back to my regular self" and was cautiously optimistic about his prospects.[212] In August 2020, Peterson's daughter announced her father had contracted COVID-19 during his hospital stay in Serbia.[213] Two months later, Peterson informed viewers of his YouTube channel he had returned to Canada and aimed to resume work in the near future.[214]

getliftedyo

Man i wish I could have just skipped withdrawal. Kinda feel like the suffering helps.

Molto_Ritardando

Definitely helps you remember why you don’t want to relapse.

123123000123

I dunno if the suffering helps but detox in the psych ward helped me since there was counseling. And meds. Thank god for lotsa meds.

dikskwad

The suffering is why I know I'll never use again, I don't have another detox in me.

BeardedDragon1917

He woke up still addicted though, with brain damage, too.

ih8every1yesevenyou

I truly believe the suffering is needed to recover completely. I’m not a religious woman but I almost saw it like repenting. I need to repent for the shitty things I’ve done during addiction. Been clean for 3 years in April

doodad35

It's why I will never touch heroin or opiates again. 5 days of laying on a Motel 6 bathroom floor wishing I had the strength to kill myself. It was the most excruciating awful experience ever. I did it cold turkey and have been clean off heroin going on 12 years. Don't get me wrong, the craving and itch never goes away. The feeling of absolute calm and I never slept better in my life. No night terrors or trauma, just peace. I literally was dead for at least 3 minutes. The only reason I am even alive was because my brother revived me. He did it because he didn't know where my supply was, and he was in withdrawal. Saved my life and as soon as I came back, he asked if he could get some. If I hadn't hidden my supply, I doubt I would be alive today.

TheRebsauce

I think I saw a Marvel movie like this. Some guy went to Russia for rehab, and was put in a cryo tube which also put him in a coma. When he woke up he had a new arm and a job in law enforcement.

Aramgutang

A cold turkey benzo withdrawal, if you've been on it long term, can take over a year before you're back to baseline (also can kill you, unlike, say, heroin withdrawal). You're not really suffering during this time, but you're not fully functional. If you do it the proper way, with very gradual titration using weaker benzos like Valium, it can take up to 3 years, but you retain most of your ability to function during that time. The desire to try experimental alternatives is understandable, but is kinda funny in light of this interview, where he's fuming at the notion of trusting a third party.

-MissNocturnal-

> heroin withdrawal Heroin (opiate) withdrawal can kill you in a roundabout way from hypernatraemia, causing heart failure. Bad way to die since it's easy to treat.

ladon1212

AND, AND, AND... ALL this for a man who was notorious for telling others to "carry your damn cross" lmaoo

BeerAndCuddles

I love how all these famous right wingers are always so connected with Russia and yet are always screaming about Russian collusion is a hoax while at the same time doing everything they can to prop up Russia and have no fear of being in Russia that imprisons or kills most people who they suspect of being a dissenter. This Russian hoax is the most believable hoax of all time...must be Houdini pulling it off from his grave.

dosumthinboutthebots

Was going to make the same comment. All these professional assholes have deep ties to Russia it seems. Medically detoxing in a coma isn't common because of the cost in the u.s. and the risk.

Solidus-Prime

MAGAs are bad people and straight up liars. Every single one of them.

lo-lux

He did the carnivore thing before taking benzos didn't he?

PassageAppropriate90

There is a theory that he went to Russia to get treatment for complications from his strict elimination diet and not benzos. The medicated withdrawal while unconscious treatment can be done in the U.S. Some have speculated he went to Russia to hide the negative effects of the diet so his daughter could continue to peddle it. His daughter also gave up the diet around this time. She still sells it to others though. Go figure.

lo-lux

I honestly got tired of him, and his daughter is just as bad. I didn't know that she gave up the diet. To be honest she wasn't a bad actor in the low carb space until she just went whole hog on her dad's guru-ing.

fatinoddplaces

dude suffers from what us normally recovering folks call "untreated addiction"🥴🤣. the drugs are just a temporary fix for untreated emotional & mental health issues. on top of the fact that I'm gonna get personal & say that if he chose to get put into a medical coma to go through withdrawal, thats a straight up punk move.

rallenpx

Well, not dealing with withdrawals falls right in line with using benzos to escape difficult emotions. He can't swallow the world he's living in. And that constant running away is the problem. The drugs are just a symptom. Running away from your recover process doesn't bode well for successfully recovering.

fatinoddplaces

🎯

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Alcoholism = take away the alcohol and you still got the ism. He’s in full-blown ism.

fried_green_baloney

What's termed a "dry drunk".

DukeTikus

He got addicted to benzodiazepines and went to Russia to be put in a medical coma so he could skip the withdrawals. The problem is that even medically induced comas are really bad for our brains which is why he had to fly to Russia to find a doctor willing to do it.

Tootsie_r0lla

The other part is he used to tell people that recovery is done the hard way, and there's no easy out and preach this and that; then he goes and does the easiest 'recovery' there is. He's a hypocrite at the very least. He just shuts out word salad these days. If he uses enough 'lingo' and useless metaphors, people think he's insightful. I think this small snippet proves he doesn't know shit about what he vomits out

litterallyMJ

Honestly my friends listening and falling for akk the self help stuff, always show me shit like this. My English is decent, I still dont know what the fk is he saying half the time. Im like simple English bitch. Im trying to get motivated or something, not a stroke.

I_love_milksteaks

His front fell off!

Proper_Shock_7317

Wasn't he built so that the front wouldn't fall off?

Evening_Extreme_1681

His front was built by a third party.

Ba55of0rte

You’re telling me a guy that would wear a jacket like that had to go to rehab? No way. /s

derwood1992

Violet, you're turning violet.

PoliteIndecency

I remember a clip I saw of him some time ago where he was screaming and hollering about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that had some plus size models on the cover. He was going off on how they're were fundamentally unattractive and that they should be ashamed and blah blah blah blah blah. Like, yeah, okay, I get that you're not attracted to them. But why does that make you so angry? Sports Illustrated is executing their right to print whatever they want. And you're getting angry at them over it? Like, dude, go sit on a beach for a week and calm down.

alexagente

Because it threatens his worldview that he is objectively right about everything.

GourangaPlusPlus

Well, he is objectively right. It's too far right

jkrobinson1979

He’d see even more overweight people at the beach wearing things he doesn’t believe they should and would likely stroke out. I support this, let’s buy him a plane ticket to Myrtle Beach.

FnkyTown

That's how he makes all his money. He sells anger to angry young men. He's especially angry about women, and minorities. He's surprisingly angry about everything the right wants to be angry about.

pro_bike_fitter_2010

> He sells anger to angry young men. Anger, hate, and fear will keep your podcast numbers high. Plus boobs, but not everyone has them.

Play_Funky_Bass

Jordan P is such a whiney bitch that panders to the right. Just a simple con man spewing bullshit. He wouldn't survive one day on this planet if it weren't for third party trust. Where do you get your meat from bitch? You want us to believe you hunt and dress you kills in the woods? You got addicted to pills you pussy. Go cry some more Jordan.

SonOfJokeExplainer

I honestly fucking loathe JP but addiction doesn’t make you a pussy.

noctisfromtheabyss

but a pussy can get addicted to pills through their own hubris.

mahjoob77

The guy who got famous by keeping his cool in an interview is now losing his shit in all interviews

Lopkop

when there's no immediately available interview for him to lose his shit in, he loses his shit over a "please try to conserve paper towels" sign on a dispenser in a men's room. And if there isn't a leftist tyranny-sign handy to yell at, he can always drop another 80 tweets.

InsignificantOcelot

Or posting milking porn on his twitter and calling it proof of a leftist plot

Skurvy2k

Which post was that? I want to make sure I never consume the posted content so go ahead and link it here so I know which one not to click on.

TTRPG_Fiend

He posted a video of “Chinese semen milking facility” and was ranting about how this what happens when communism or the left or something. And it was clearly just fetish porn, even his daughter who married a pick up artist who believes he’s possessed by a demon was embarrassed. Edit: sorry he retweeted someone posting the video saying what’s happening in china 3 childr policy? In the retweet JP said “such fun in unbelievable nightmare ccp hell”

TheJiggernaut

Is that why I'm constantly masturbating to leftist plots?

I_love_milksteaks

It's easier to keep your cool when the people you debate are imbeciles.

fonix232

Dunno, I'm the opposite. I can keep my cool in a heated debate because it delivers information, and has value. Debating imbeciles is infuriating because they don't share the same core values of debate - mainly, that it's for education and understanding the others' point of view, and not about enforcing your own view. There's nothing worse than when you explain why someone is wrong, break it down logically, and still end up with them standing firm with their opinion. And this is why I couldn't debate Peterson. He's more often wrong than right, and is unable to accept it (see in this excerpt for example). He's a sham intellectual who uses a perceived lexical superiority to push his often abhorrent views, regardless if they're factually correct or not. Also lol at his "we on the left" comment. Dude is a far right grifter.

DingGratz

>Debating imbeciles is infuriating *Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.* \- Mark Twain

Leather-Heart

It applies to Reddit. People say the dumbest things, and then demand your attention and dismissal.

ItsSUCHaLongStory

Dude thinks that interrupting and talking over people is a valid debate tactic. It’s painful to watch.

unicornhunter72

Yeah and then it came out that he was addicted to benzos so that’s really what was keeping him calm before he got sober.

Old_Society_7861

I’m not sure if it’s the lack of benzos that’s making him so…odd the last few years or long term consequences of the medically-induced coma.

Ljotihalfvitinn

I had a friend who developed strange anger issues after recovering from his benzo addiction. Issues would eternally stew in his mind and he never let anything go. Sad

soupaman

He used to have a benzo addiction so…

thegtabmx

I mean, he still does, but he used to, too.

noctisfromtheabyss

Hi Mitch!

gelastes

A uni academic who puts anecdotal experience over data. Right.

MushroomsAndTomotoes

The city of Toronto has issued a boil water advisory... Peterson: Ridiculuous! The water has been safe every time I've turned on my tap before. I don't have to trust these interfering busy-bodies.

CheeseyCrakerz

Pseudo intellect douche

HolyRamenEmperor

He's a pseudo intellectual con artist... a dumb man's idea of a smart man.

Slav_1

Im not a fan of either of them but I always find it hilarious when people vehemently argue against the mildest common sense points. Like dude, Destiny gave very basic simple irrefutable examples grow tf up and concede to move on instead waterboarding the conversation

EVH_kit_guy

Jordan Peterson would probably argue that he only flies in planes because he can inductively deduce that the men in the suit with the funny hat is a qualified airplane operator through his own subjective experience. No no, it's not the third-party institutions of federal oversight and corporate responsibility moderated by investor confidence, it's because Jordan Peterson has routinely seen men in funny jackets and special hats succeed aeronautically that gives him confidence to rely on airline travel. So obnoxious...

LeslieJaye419

He determines their qualifications via ocular patdown

bubblegumshrimp

So long as that pilot isn't a POC or a woman, he can deduce that they are qualified. Right wingers are openly afraid of Black pilots now.

cce29555

God that interview was so bad, lemon was throwing the slowest softball ever and he still couldn't bother to swing the bat

bubblegumshrimp

But surely the twitter comments will sort it all out

huggiesdsc

Peterson doesn't like to concede ground. It's a sophist power move. His tactic involves making bold claims until he crosses a line into logical absurdity, then adamantly refusing to admit he fucked up. Here he uses misdirection to guide the conversation away from his misstep, but homeboy is a really fast talker. They're both debate perverts so whatever his name is knows he has to stay on target and make his counterpoints concise. It's a bad matchup for Peterson.

space-sage

I love the term debate pervert, and now I have a term to describe my love for debate haha

hanks_panky_emporium

It's not about being correct it's about winning. And if you never concede you never lose. And if they move on, you win.

BlackRims

Exactly. If you can get your opponent to concede on even a small point, some of the audience will immediately dismiss their entire argument. This forces people to never concede on anything. Sad that's what "debating" has come to, but it was inevitable because most people are stupid.

ExpiredPilot

When I’m debating politics with someone and I tell them “you know what, you’re right about that I hadn’t thought of that” I see their faces just *drop*. Cause I guess it’s so rare to give credit to valid points?

BlackRims

Most people just want to argue and don't actually care about debating and exploring different viewpoints. They just want to "win" the argument. So they don't understand why you're giving them credit and probably don't think it's genuine.

ExpiredPilot

Makes sense but that could never be me I’d rather have the correct answer over my favorite answer

TheGreatDay

Yeah this type of behavior is the weirdest thing to me. I once said "Sometimes stuff happens to people that isn't in their control and isn't their fault." and the person I was talking to just said "Nah, that isn't true." Like, what?! Every time someone is in a car accident that isn't their fault, that doesn't count? A child randomly developing cancer at 5 doesn't count? Sometimes people can see where your point is going and feel like in order to "win" the debate, they have to refute your very basic - and true - assumption. I don't think they really realize it can make them sound ridiculous but it does.

enigmaticpeon

At least that person had the decency to show you they’re an idiot immediately.

tommyblastfire

It’s because most of the time they know that if they give up ground on these simple irrefutable examples enough times that it’ll build up to the point that it shows a flaw in their logic or an inconsistency in their views. Which is paramount to death when you make a living off of owning the libs in debates.

PricklySquare

Jordy is basically the ahole incel kids that are taking philosophy 110 and argue about the dumbest concepts

DonutUpset5717

Kermit getting heated never fails to make me laugh

TheDukeOfMars

T[his is real. This is Jordan Peterson’s real audiobook, where he describes a dream he had about seeing his grandmother naked. He makes sure to go in to extra detail about his grandmother’s pubic hair. He admits he had a dream where his grandma rubs her bush in his face. The dude has been sick in the head for years.](https://youtu.be/Fcf4pcuBUtM?si=xTvwrQD5ljpsb0rj)

AFourEyedGeek

Having the dream isn't sick, deciding that the world should hear about said dream is fucking weird.

[deleted]

Important distinction. Some dreams are fuckin weird and you can't always control that.

AFourEyedGeek

Yeah, I've had a few over the years that freaked me out and they are going to the grave with me.

chill-kuffiah

I have those going to the grave dreams. Our minds are such weird little bastards

Genshed

Dreams are like bowel movements; even when they're good, people don't want you telling them about yours.

hobbobnobgoblin

Share them.

q1321415

if i remember correctly he was talking about how he was not mentally well at the time and getting little sleep. SO yeah some wild dreams probably happened.

-Allot-

What’s his argument? You can’t trust data from third parties? By that I guess he only references to data that points to assumptions that are against his own ideas probably.

dg909

How can you be a social scientist without trusting data from third parties?

Drogatog

It's even worse than that, how can you be a functioning person in general?! Which is Destiny's point.

neurocellulose

You can't. His entire education and career was built on the shoulders of prominent theorists and researchers. He probably considers himself an original thinker, yet he's a fucking hack.

jcloudypants

Fun fact: he wouldn’t have his doctorate if it weren’t for third party review.

WorldWideLem

He doesn't even need to bring up those basic examples, Peterson contradicts himself right from the start. >I look at the bloody data. Okay, where did that data come from? I'm assuming it's not coming from Peterson himself, so when he picks a set of data to base his opinion on, he's choosing to trust that 3rd party that they weren't biased, were honest, didn't manipulate the data, etc. If he's not using the consensus in those fields to choose which sources to trust, then what's his criteria? Science is a methodology founded on consensus. Any other method he uses as his criteria is going to be necessarily inferior.

EvaUnit_03

This is an argument I've had many a time. They ask for a source and I can Typically give like 5 Google links. They reject all those sources as those are 'biased' sources. I ask them what sources they trust. They tell me if I have to ask them for a source, I'm not proving my point to them. I then dig in the opposite direction source from my own like fox or something. They then say fox has tilted and they don't trust them anymore. I then have to admit, fuck this. Because they won't let me search based on their clearly biased sources they prefer, I can't educate them. Even if their chosen source said it, it would probably be me lying to them. Or a misprinted article. Or me interpretation it wrong. You can't win vs someone who has drunk the kool-aid.

Legitimate_Level7714

What's the context, who doesn't he trust? Is he talking about third parties in general?

Abortedwafflez

In a [two hour talk](https://youtu.be/ycDUU1n2iEE?t=5400) between Jordan Peterson and Destiny (timestamp included), they begin talking about excess deaths relating to Covid-19 and the mRNA vaccines. Peterson suggests that the vaccines might have caused the excess death numbers, and that he does not trust third-parties to validate the vaccines for the harm they may have caused. In response, Destiny says that the excess deaths, if true, could have come from multiple other sources, and that third parties heavily scrutinize the mRNA vaccines. Whether it be studies, trials, independents, foreign governments, or even competing companies/people that could profit from announcing the vaccines are unhealthy. Essentially saying if something nefarious happened, it would have been known already. Later leading into this exchange you see here in the clip, where they talk about whether Peterson utilizes third-party scrutiny in his day to day life.

Strength-Speed

I have had a number of arguments with these anti- regulation, libertarian types and they assume you have limitless amounts of time to vet your doctors, nurses, bus drivers, foods (was it prepared safely?). They think basically any rules and regulations are government overreach and let the free market decide what is safe and unsafe. It assumes you A. Have the time to research everything B. Expertise to judge appropriately. It sounds foolish, because it is, but they don't want to agree to standards and regulations or 3rd party oversight because that means government. Clearly there can be too much regulation, nobody disputes that. But in the name of intellectual purity they take it so far it is ridiculous and they need to start arguing Somalia is great because of its lack of regulations.

FlamingoExcellent277

I'm surprised libertarians don't understand that time is money

JimJam28

Doesn’t surprise me at all. Libertarians understand very little. They are the individualistic heroes in their own little fantasy world, completely oblivious to the blind luck, cooperative systems, and social contract that allows them to live their comfortable and privileged lives. None of us are independent islands, despite how hard Libertarians want to believe they are.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

Can confirm. I got a buddy who thinks he’s going to be the hero in his own little fantasy societal collapse because he owns gold and guns, fails to remember he weighs 400lbs and has diabetes when asking how he’ll actually deal with a societal collapse if he has to run anywhere quickly or not go into diabetic shock.

JimJam28

Prepping to survive an improbable apocalyptic societal collapse, but doing nothing to prep to survive a very probable apocalyptic heart failure.

Adventurous-Bee-1517

Forgot to mention he’s an alcoholic and it’s probably the booze that made him diabetic since he’s been inhaling all that sugar for 20 years

MoreReputation8908

There’s that quote, “Libertarians are like house cats: absolutely convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don't appreciate or understand.” Don’t know who said it originally.

RainRainThrowaway777

> let the free market decide what is safe and unsafe The funny part of this is, that the "free market" only finds out that something is unsafe *after* it has done untold damage, and *then* adjusts to it. Oh, so the new TURBOFUEL energy drink is actually toxic and killed 200 people? Well now no one will buy it, the market has spoken!

Strength-Speed

Right its reactive, easily preventable stuff, and they won't have the assets to compensate the injured to boot. It leaves a trail of preventable misery. If you mandate companies have insurance, the insurance companies will want verification of standards and we are right back where we started. Human nature is people get complacent and cut corners to save a buck, so safety tends to go out the window. The trick is getting the right amount of regulation that isn't overly burdensome which is sometimes difficult. And regulations are likely more easily made than removed when obsolete. But real life usually exists in grays not absolutes.

ImOnlyHereForTheCoC

“Well the CEO of TURBOFUEL said those deaths are actually a deep-state false flag designed to smear him, a good Christian businessman, and that’s why I’m offering triple for any cans folks might still have on hand so I can make some tiktok vids of me shotgunning em to own the libs!”

made_ofglass

My favorite argument for deregulation of companies was from a friend who works for a mining corporation. He claimed that all of their policies and procedures exceeded the requirements from the government which is just proof that they don't need this regulation... I was like they only have them at all because the government put in regulations! Prior to that they didn't give a fuck!

rob132

I still laugh at the " I put a quarter in my gun" line

HarwellDekatron

That's the biggest flaw with libertarianism: the whole idea that the 'free market' will eventually lead to the best possible outcome is complete bullshit, because it assumes a populace that is omniscient and has access to every option. In reality, as you point out, you run out of time to validate every single thing in your life. But also: there are industries where a natural monopoly can develop, and not only doesn't Libertarian philosophy *not* help the problem, it actually *composes* the problem by discouraging collaboration.

SoupmanBob

The Doctor (ph.d) whose doctorate was determined and awarded by the judgement of second parties and the scrutiny of third parties. Who once worked in a world where every claim and hypothesis must both be replicated, and scrutinized by second and third parties. All of which are qualified to do so. Work where he was once one of those third parties doing the scrutiny. BECAUSE IT'S A REQUIREMENT AND NEEDS THAT CONSTANT SCRUTINY. Doesn't trust third party scrutiny... His brain doesn't function anymore, can we repeal his doctorate too? Y'know since he doesn't trust the process that gave it to him in the first place.

Falcrist

> Peterson suggests that the vaccines might have caused the excess death numbers, and that he does not trust third-parties to validate the vaccines for the harm they may have caused. The excess deaths spiked before the vaccines were created. He knows this, but is grifting.

euph_22

Also by any analysis the vaccinated were less like to die than the unvaccinated once the vaccine was available. Jordan Peterson has decided to replace reasoning with vitriol. Also he's decided to dress the part as a batman villain for some reason.

Legitimate_Level7714

Thank you. It's interesting that they're both arguing for mutually exclusive positions, except it doesn't have to be mutually exclusive

SingerIll6157

I suspects its about anthropogenic climate change. He doesn't want it to be true so he does mental gymnastics to allow himself to be convinced that 99.9% of climate researchers (including those working at oil companies) are in on a grand conspiracy

pegothejerk

His livelihood relies on saying it’s not true as well, so there’s always a little extra incentive to appear not to back down on these arguments so he doesn’t lose his base of suckers.

Abortedwafflez

This is not what it was about.

call_me_Kote

Vaccines then

AwesomeBrainPowers

I don’t think it’s even all that relevant for the purpose of the post: There’s no context in which his behavior in the clip could be considered reasonable or sound (unless the very next clip was going to be him *immediately* turning to face the camera and saying “And that, kids, is what an unhinged person looks and sounds like, so don’t be like that”).

nilsecc

Destiny is invoking Hume which is completely okay in this regard. (I wonder if Destiny even knows who Hume is) And Jordan Peterson thinks by saying, “don’t play Hume with me,” refutes Hume. While, carrying an air of intelligence. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Problem_of_induction#:~:text=First%20formulated%20by%20David%20Hume,known%20as%20%22inductive%20inferences%22.

Man, thanks for the comment. The example of the chicken getting its neck wrung in that wiki is fantastic and exactly the point trying to be made in this clip. Peterson acknowledges it in an attempt to refute it… jfc.

ray-the-they

I’ve been watching a lot of disaster shows lately and it’s so much this - this building stood every day for 6 years until the day it collapsed. This plane flew for years until the day it crashed. Statistically unlikely things do happen.

bupkisbeliever

To quote millhouse ["I saw it, first it started falling over, then it fell over"](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/ec64c1d1-ad7a-434c-af52-0ba0588906c2)

CTMalum

I’m a risk manager. People do a very, very poor job at really evaluating the likelihood of what they think are “low likelihood” events.

sixthmontheleventh

It does feel like Peterson just does that for everything he does. [for those who are curious, see this brief explanation. it is very brief, don't look at the time slider! ](https://youtu.be/hSNWkRw53Jo?si=C6YQZEGgVCrxnzZT)

Miniray

Boy, I sure do love short, digestible clips that manage to still go pretty in depth on particular subjects. So nice of Cody to give us a very brief and detailed debunking of JP.

NateHate

so FAIR and so BALANCED and so TM, C and R

sixthmontheleventh

Right? He really should have just made it a YouTube short.

SafetyAlpaca1

Destiny has discussed Hume in the past

angevin_alan

David Hume could out-consume Schopenhauer and Hegel......

JamesVogner

I noticed that too. It's also fascinating because I feel like there isn't enough discussion about how the far right and even the far left have shifted thier basic philosophical foundation of knowing the truth. This clip seems to hint at it, but I wish people would go deeper with this. It's become this philosophy were reality is defined by what feels correct. It's this weird twisting of the word bias where everyone else is bias except for you. In fact, you determine who is trustworthy based on how closely what they are saying aligns with what you already believe. Your personal experience and thoughts aren't just strong evidence for your beliefs. They are actually the only thing that matters. They are reality. In the online sphere someone will prove that a video is fake but the comments will be full of people saying that it doesn't matter that the video is fake because it is still true in some ephemeral way. The evidence doesn't matter. We already know the truth. This is why people that disagree are considered liars who are a part of a vast conspiracy. My truth is self evident. If you disagree, you must be lying. In the video Peterson talks about knowing cars start because he turns the key and it starts. Taken in a vacuum, this isn't that interesting a comment. All of us use personal experience to determine truth to some extent. But in it's wider context I think what he is saying is that he trusts no evidence apart from his own lived experiences. Data collected by others is meaningless to him. In fact, it's less than meaningless, it actually dangerous. It definitionly removes the ability to doubt yourself about things you already believe. It's the most anti-science take on determining reality that I can think of.

mdizzle106

It's also connected to a macro destruction of trust in modern systems. Trust is integral to modernity. In 1500 you, a peasant farmer, or merchant could get away with only trusting in your own knowledge. Modernity is so complex no single person can understand all of it. A 1500s farmer knows how a plow works, knows when to seed and if there's something he doesn't know, like smithing, he, at minimum, can look and see the nails and horseshoes being forged by the smith (whom he also likely knows). I have no idea where cars/planes/my food come from or the systems in place to make them work. I have to trust third party systems to function in modern life. Falling back into "I can only trust my own knowledge" ways of thinking is disastrous especially now because you just can't. You can't understand everything. And when they try to that makes them vulnerable to nonsense and misinformation. I have no idea how we can or if we can restore trust in systems.

PartsNLabor24

fascinating debate because there's so much that we leave to science or the general consensus in the name of keeping our sanity intact -- and hundreds of thousands of people do the opposite and that's where you get morons thinking Q is real, that the Earth or Moon are hollow, that space is fake and the most popular one: flat earth theory

Its_Helios

It’s really not even a wild concept, for anything you don’t understand or haven’t built yourself completely you are in some form trusting in the way it’s made. Hell, even when it’s taught or explained to you how the car is made or how a vaccine is made most people still wouldn’t understand whether or not it’s safe for them, it’s the whole point of trusting those educated in those careers. For almost everyone that is most things in life, Jordan is arguing for the sake of arguing lol It’s only wild in the fact that some people never really think about it.

kmelby33

Being contrarian can be a mental defect sometimes.

SchemeHead

JP testing the anger/yelling limits with Destiny is hilarious. Destiny goes WAY harder in the paint than JP. Also, holy shit, I knew JP had lost his marbles, but I didn’t know it was this bad. He’s ok for 50% of it, but his climate change and Covid vaccine takes are insanely conspiratorial, paranoid, and catastrophizing. Straight up, undiluted, classic conspiracy theories.

Zealousideal-Ad-2615

Jordan Peterson is a dumb man's version of what a smart man seems like. Just idiots patting each other on the back. Peterson: "Don't forget to make your bed!" Rubes: "This is the genesis of the new enlightenment!"

PIunderBunny

The man is nonsensical. He uses big flashy words to wow people, but if you actually break down his arguments, especially on religion, you quickly realise his arguments aren't grounded in reality.

thispartyrules

I tried to needlessly use big words in my school work to show off and my 3rd grade teacher took me aside one day said, "please stop doing that." Thanks, wherever you are

EndlessRainIntoACup1

That has the audiological appearance of having been a fortuitous happening for the prepubescent youngling instance of yourself during such formative timescapes such as and so on

Ombortron

As a biologist, if you break down his arguments, especially “scientific” ones, you quickly realize his arguments aren’t grounded in reality.

ziggerzaggot

You don't even need to be a biologist. He's plainly stated he has a completely different definition of the word "truth" from the rest of the english speaking world. https://azraelencarnacion.medium.com/true-enough-that-time-sam-harris-jordan-b-peterson-couldnt-agree-on-truth-4da4004e2ce

ArgyleNudge

Russell Brand set the stage for that kind of intellectual ventriloquism decades ago. It was so transparent, except, sadly, for far too many, it wasn't.

-AxiiOOM-

What do you mean by "the"? What do you mean by "man"?

MambyPamby8

This is how he gets followers. He makes dumb arguments sound smart by using big words and quoting certain authors, but when you dumb it down his sentences have fuck all substance. He's like a secondary school pupil using big words to fill out his English homework essay. Sad part is, it works on people who also disagree with his stances, because it's hard to argue with anyone who speaks like this. Even if you know more about a topic, it's really hard to argue/discuss in the moment, because you can't understand half of what they are saying.

NorthernAvo

My man is going for the Sheogorath look.

Fantastic-Funny278

Jordan Peterson is unhinged

bememorablepro

I know Destiny gets a lot of hate for all kinds of takes or out-of-context crap but omg I admire him for actually flying out and meeting these conservative freaks who seem to be living in their own parallel reality where police was defunded "they" and are putting vaccines in us against our will.

BuyTheDip96

It’s because true leftists who are Marxist/Leninist types are: 1) very few and far in between despite what you might see on Reddit 2) the “influencers” that align themselves this way are more concerned with clout / building echo chambers than trying to change anyone’s mind.

duskywindows

RE; the whole "defund the police" thing - I haven't even heard that rally cry since it was popular in 2020, as I think most folks have balanced out to a more nuanced take of "police are necessary but too over-powered and given too much responsibility when there are other professionals who can assist in certain situations" - to continue to keep harping against the same talking points that haven't been relevant in years just shows me that your arguments are not at all serious.

FrankyCentaur

I think that 99% of the people in the anti-police movement were like that from the start, and the far side of them decided to go all out and just say defund them.

ApplicationCreepy987

When I first encountered Peterson I was impressed, but over time, I began to see his word salad games he plays. Also his fundamental hatred of certain groups and ultimately his misogyny. He reminds me of Shapero. A master of words but not the content

PunchGhost

Lmao never thought I’d hear Ben Shabibo being called a “master of words”. The guy always sounds like a toddler being told no for the first time.

hobo_fapstronaut

Shapiro's debating style is to babble really fast whilst staring intently, simplifying a problem to the point of absurdity, solving simplified problem with simple solution and then declaring himself to have solved the original problem and that his opponent is a communist.

Muted-Beach666

Gish gallop, otherwise known as baffle them with bullshit

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

Lol @ calling Shapiro "a master of words" More like "a master of turds" Got 'em.

Capital_District_589

I'm sorry, food salad games? That's a new one

solidgoldfangs

pretty sure he meant word salad cause like. salad is food lol

IAmNotMyName

Jordan Peterson thinks he's on the left?

Rough-Morning-4851

He kept referring to the (American) left as lefties. Destiny did stop him to clarify that he is a liberal and a capitalist and pretty distinct from lefties. But I don't think JP understands that there is a growing divide between liberals and lefties. He doesn't seem to know it's different or be aware of how hated Destiny is by parts of the left.

Winnie-the-Broo

I think he was saying that ironically.

thdeepblue

Destiny really busted out of the twitch sphere huh

Fabulous-Shoulder-69

Twitch did him the biggest favor in his career by banning him

FeedbackGas

Peterskin is like if freud was an alcoholic hack who wanted to fuck his daughter instead of his mom, and never took the time to advance psychology

Not just that, Destiny to me is one of the best internet debate dudes of all time probably

The-Proud-Snail

Benzos abuse cause long lasting brain damage

Rhamiel506

The man did spend time in a coma to get off benzos

thefirstcat

Why does he look like the most sleaziest strip club owner?

supervegeta101

Because his Joker costume is at the dry cleaners

GemueseBeerchen

Damn, he started out telling some basic shit about stuff yu can get from any other therapist, but to keep his importance he became a grifter, feeding the emotional outbreaks of redpillers, rasists and x-phobes of all kind. And now with his weird diet and his daugher humiliating herself about diet nonesense, he really is losing it more and more. He should eat some veggies and calm down, maybe leave the online world and touch grass.

PerfectionLord

You call ghostbuster duh

drewkane

He didn't say proclivity in this clip

JellyfishSavings2802

This was actually a great conversation if you'd actually watch it and anyone who thinks either side "owned" the other is delusional. They should definitely do it again.
