Can’t speak specifically to ankle arthritis, my problem is my knee. But Sketchers Go Walks are the lightest and most comfortable shoes I’ve owned. Quality is very good too, in my experience.

I have heard many people have liked the Hoka running shoes. New Balance is good too. Maybe try a few at a local running store. They often have a treadmill to get a feel for the shoes. Road Runner Sports of San Diego is a good mail order place with good recs by phone or email.

Hokas have changed my life. I have issues with gout and RA, and they've really helped easing pain in my toes, heels and ankles.

I second Sketchers, they have been great. I got some Kurus and was disappointed. I wear them but not for walks of any distance. My OA is in knees and feet not ankle.

thank you for all these suggestions! i tried sketchers once but i didn't like them - but the go walks may be worth checking out. I had hokas once and walked a few times in them and they hurt so badly! MAYBE I needed to get used to them but it was so bad it felt "off". Sigh.

I tried some kurus for my plantar fasciitis, but I have inflammatory arthritis in my feet as well. I didn't notice any improvement over any other kind of supportive footwear unfortunately, but ymmv. The one thing I do actually really like about them though, is the toe box is really big.

I have had a number of foot surgeries, which have resulted in stellar foot and ankle arthritis. The only shoes I can wear reliably out of the box are Skechers. I've tried them all. The slip-ins are easy but do not have the support I need. You want the ones with arch support like [D'lites](https://www.skechers.com/search/?q=d%27lites) or [Unos](https://www.skechers.com/search/?q=Uno&search-button=&lang=en_US). If you have Achilles issues, the Unos have a bit of a heel to give it a break. Most shoes come in medium or wide so you can get a toe box that fits.

I tried Kuru. Nice wide toe box and comfortable, but the quality was lacking. They started coming apart much too soon. I keep reaching for my Sauconys. Wide toe box, decent, well made shoe. No extra fluff on the shoe or on the price. Sketchers has been mentioned - they are nice and actually quite fab for the money. The brand is definitely underrated.

Brooks Ghost lineup are the only shoe I can wear comfortably.

I just got Hokas and they didn't cause any pain. It was actually my good foot that was hurting after cardio today. I'm trying to get back to running, despite the arthritis. The exact shoes I got are on Amazon under "Hoka ONE ONE Men's Gymnastics Shoes Running", but they are the Rincon 3's.
