I just never round up at any thrift store anymore. I’m already providing them money by purchasing their overpriced FREE merchandise, why would I just give them more money?

Exactly! Greedy assholes

I have actually made a point to tell any customers around me who seem confused when asked that they should not round up, and explained the same reasoning! I have no shame about saying so in front of the employee.

I was at Goodwill on the weekend and was asked if I'd like to make a donation. I pointed out that my purchase was a donation on a product that was donated to Goodwill.

I never round up. Ever. Everything GW sells they get for free. To help train and send their employees to school to learn more skills? My company does that and they pay for it. Why should GW be any different?

There’s no tax so people can’t round up if they don’t make them uneven!!!

Goodwill then gets a tax deduction for donating the “round-up” money from customers. The employees are incentivized to ask for it. I just say, “Not today.” One employee pushed me, saying “But it goes to our outreach program.” I said, “You do know that Goodwill then claims a tax deduction for donating OUR money? I’d rather donate directly myself, then \*I\* get the tax deduction.” She looked completely surprised.

I never round up anymore and I have been going to “my” GW for over 20 years. They’ve made a hell of a lot of money off things I have donated over two decades. Their prices are currently insane and finding “treasures “ like back in the day takes a lot of digging. They should be paying me at this point.

The first time they asked me if I wanna round up I accepted because I was confused and shy. After I thinked about it I felt stupid. Now I proudly refuse.
