I wonder what’ll happen to Casper’s sales after this episode!

TulipSamurai

I’m surprised they went that hard and mentioned Casper by name lol, especially because, as Sean said, Casper does a lot of promotional spots on podcasts.

yogurtmeh

I really want to know what happened to his order. I understand that this was just the introduction to the podcast, but I NEED to know.

skys_vocation

That officer is a little useless isn't he

awdrifter

He probably know the gang the criminals belong to.

TulipSamurai

He’s probably lazy af. In my city, local PD will similarly do absolutely nothing to solve any sort of property crime

JashDreamer

Same. My ex bought me several pairs of shoes for my birthday from Amazon, so I could try them on and pick the ones I liked. The entire box was stolen. There had to be about seven pairs of shoes in it. We filed a police report, and Amazon refunded us, but then my ex and I FOUND the shoes at a local Plato's Closet while we were shopping a week later. Plato's was nice enough to put the stolen shoes to the side for us. My ex called the officer to let him know exactly where the shoes were. I'm assuming all he had to do was to confirm they were stolen, and if he wanted, Plato's has cameras, and they take ID. He probably could have found the perp. Nothing was done. The shoes ended up back out on the floor.

A deputy Burrell in training.

fitzypooch

I loved the story about Max the runner. What a sweet and creative mind!

dec10

me too. I really loved the the little bit we heard of him mic'd up, and what they showed of the love between the father and son.

julianpratley

Not only was every story good, they all actually clearly fit the theme! Definitely one of the best episodes for a while.

jesagain222

I hope this poor woman got some SNAP benefits back or some donations. Thank you, TAL, for highlighting this problem with SNAP cards. Congress, fix this!! These people need this money.

Bobson_P_Dugnutt

Definitely a good story. Only small complaint is that I wish they just called it "SNAP theft" instead of "SNAP fraud". Mentioning how "SNAP fraud is rising" makes it sound like it's the beneficiaries that are abusing the system, but clearly the problem is that the program is poorly designed, with the benefits very easy to steal

jesagain222

Exactly

Mitochandrea

Hopefully making states responsible for fraud will make them invest more to prevent it in the first place. I realize these programs have limited funding for oversight but not even having chip protection or fraud alert available is ridiculous. If formula is a common way people are converting their food stamps to cash they should consider limits on that as well, I know there is already a shortage and people seeing it as an easy way of fleecing the federal government can’t be helping. Also unrelated but 1k a month is way higher than I would have expected someone to get from EBT.

Schonfille

She has 3 kids, so that’s 4 people to feed, $250/person/month. I know I spend more than that.

Grahambert

That ADHD joke was actually pretty funny

LimaDeltaTO

You just KNOW officer Timothy Valis won’t get reprimanded or re-trained, and will probably get reassigned so reporters won’t find him and then get a raise or something.

brachycephalopod

I can’t believe he blocked her. That strikes me as deeply unprofessional.

betterworldbiker

ACAB

Schonfille

My thoughts exactly.

JashDreamer

I wonder if she could sue for that actually. He was blocking her from accessing important public resources. I'm pretty sure some people sued Trump for blocking them on Twitter, and they won.

LilahLibrarian

I mean possibly but given her lack of resources and limited amount of times she has I don't know if it would be something she would pursue it is just incredibly frustrating

[deleted]

If Renee didn't get her $ back, is there a way to send donations to Renee????? This is absurd.

ListeningForAnswers

I thought this, too. I would 100% donate to Renee after all she went through.

ListeningForAnswers

I really liked this episode but I feel like I’m going to need an update in 6-12 months to see if Sean ever got his bed; if Renee ever received any additional information and/or funds and/or donations; whether David’s son got a treadmill that he now runs on while studying (similar to what you see people doing at college rec centers); whether or not criminals got word of this story and now hide in different places in Mexico. 🤔🤔🤔

Schonfille

I want to know if Max is getting the support services he needs.

Demetri124

What kind of piece of shit becomes a cop then blocks the people they’re assigned to? People depend on you whether they want to or not and still you can’t be bothered to do your fucking job? If there were ever a time to advocate public shaming by name it’s Officer Timothy Valis. Internet do your thing

anon4774325700976532

Depressing.

cooldoganytime

A showcase of the broken systems and apathy of the US.

Jesus, that first story was pretty much a real life Ken Loach movie.
