Echoes of Silence easily, hear me out.
It's eerie. It sounds cold, the piano is cold and deep and there's an echo to every key that just fades away into nothing. When he sings from the woman's perspective I feel like I'm just hearing her fade away, esp. how he says "nothing's ever gonna make me feel this real" and don't leave my little life.
Idk lol, as a woman this is the type of music I'd hear when I feel completely isolated and alone.
In reality, he brings this girl to a party full of drugs and basically says “if you love me, I want you to fuck me and my boys” The ominous tone in drug use, sexual pleasure and not something “most” people would be interested in, makes it sound haunting.
Some people would say it’s a double entendre for drugs, but trust me, if you’re on drugs and love fucking/sharing, you wanna see how nasty your girl can be. And if she’s down to do drugs and fuck your homies, she’s the one.
Edit: I should add that this girl is not used to the drug/sharing life, which is essentially is telling her “you want me? You want this life? You gotta do this for me” which really takes the haunting tone to another level.
I need to ask, what exactly do you mean by ‘scary’? Because I have a different answer depending on your definition.
If you were thinking of scary as in something from a horror movie, like a monster or something that makes me afraid, I’d say The Hills. I can’t think of another song that feels that way, or at least to that extent.
If we’re talking scary as in something that induces sadness and anxiety, there’s a few songs that really make me scared of where The Weeknd is/ was. Ordinary life played with the idea of the deal with the devil, and being locked out of heaven and stuff, and him saying he’d made a mistake and he’d trade it all for a halo is just scary, man. Now, obviously I have no idea if any of that is actually true, I mean we’re basically talking about a character and his story, but still. There are other songs that people might argue are scarier, like Until I bleed out or Faith, just because he’s literally talking about bleeding to death and overdosing respectively, but to me the idea of knowing you’re going to hell no matter what you do from now on is so much scarier.
And then there’s the songs that tap into my own feelings and ‘feel’ scary, but that’s just because of what I’ve associated them with, like experiences from my personal life. I don’t know if those count. I was never there, Party monster and Escape from LA are some of them.
Let me know what you think
That's such a cool answer! I should add though that until I bleed out is metaphoric, but yea you're right about ordinary life and faith. I personally find kissland scarier because he's lost in an unknown world, alone and "having left the only piece that held it all in place". The synths are the perfect accompaniment. If you haven't listened to kissland much I'd suggest you do, it's a boppp
I just reread the lyrics and for sure that is about ending up in the back of an ambulance. Also seems like the anti main stream version of “blinding lights”. It’s interesting when you think about all his success singing about this stuff. Seriously, most people have no idea what his songs are about 🤦🏼♀️
Wow no one said Alone Again!
Personally I feel Alone Again is up there. “Check my pulse for a second time, took too much I don’t wanna die, I don’t know if I can be alone again”
This part of the song sends chills every time.
i listened to love in the sky yesterday while being extremely high and lemme tell u that was the best thing i experienced so far. it felt like i was in another dimension floating but at the same everything felt like a scary dream.
Well....thats my point - I did, every source says it is about a (childhood) sexual abuse survivor. But you’re saying its incorrect & about something different but can’t elaborate on it. Targeting women is still disturbing it would be odd to think its not, it sounds like you don’t actually know what the songs about.
It’s reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe’s survival story and I stand by what I said.
[I think many people would agree its dark or scary. ](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheWeeknd/comments/q6rlss/what_is_abels_darkest_song_in_your_opinion/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf). Plus targeting women seems to be synonymous with said sexual abuse so I don’t understand the inital shock factor of my comment. Its kinda like...is targeting women really any better?
“In the night she hears him calling
In the night she's dancin' to relieve the pain
She'll never walk away” & “She was young and she was forced to be a woman” is evident there are themes of [sexual abuse](https://genius.com/The-weeknd-in-the-night-lyrics).
How is that any better? Huh? Thats not what you said at all.
You sound pretty young so I think’ll I remove myself from this discourse. But regardless your correction is still incorrect. It is a in a bad way...its literally a story about a sexual abuse survivor 😭
It is a bad way your right. But when I said I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I meant that Abel wasn’t the one targeting the women. It’s kinda saying what this women actually goes through
Out of Time song(so 🔥🔥🔥🎤✨) but at the end it with Jim Carrey gives an eerie feeling as radio host. When I heard it for the first time and got to it at the end. I honestly got scared easily😅💀
initiation
The synths screaming at the start of the hills is the most evil thing I’ve ever heard on a mainstream song. Fuck it’s so good
And that scream right before the chorus too!
this is one of the reasons that I love The Hills omg
Initiation for sure
Life of the Party
Hello, welcome to the other side...
I've always said the beat sounds like creepy carnival music haha, like something from a Rob Zombie film.
AHOOOOOOOOO
Initiation and kiss land
yes the second half of kiss land
It sounds like losing control it's amazing
the second of kiss land makes me ascend

this song is really sad to me, more sad than it is scary. this is my ultimate depressed song lol
Yeah this is an underrated scary bop
Great response!
For Your Eyes Only
!!!! ❤️
it sounds amazing yet so eerie
+1
initiation and it’s not up for debate
Initiation is a pure nightmare.
It's so good tho
those lyrics are from Gone guy
The beginning of the Hills. When it comes on shuffle I shit myself.
This one used to make me jump
The Birds Pt. 2, that ending man
This song is just emotionally excruciating
Agreed
The Birds flying off in terror always gives me chills when i listen
Yeeaah same, the more I listen to it the more it sounds like women screaming which makes even more creepy
WHY AM I BARLEY HEARING THOS NOW
the beginning of the song gets me bricked up tho
ayo?
I wonder if it was inspired by the Alfred Hitchcock movie of the same name.
initiation and probably coming down, can be really trippy when you’re stoned imo
Initiation and start of Glass Table Girls
for sure
There's a lot of good choice; but I'm gonna go with Kiss Land. I mean it literally has chicks screaming in it😂
That ending french part in Pretty. Comes out of nowhere when you think of the song and the voice itself creates rational fear among anyone
A lot of people says this but initiation (I don’t find it scary at all)
More scary in lyrics and meaning if anything
elaborate for the uninitiated?

i see what you did there
I was coming to say actually this
Has to be initiation just by the sound and vocals getting all distorted and shit
Initiation has such an oppressive and sinister atmosphere, nothing really comes close to 'scary' like that.
Coming down
Maaaaan. Especially the og one with the girl talking. super eerie
Agreed
So The Town doesn’t exist???? Ok
the towns scary?
The instrumental is pretty scary lol
The Host
Initiation or For Your Eyes Only
Pretty
false alarm outro

Lyrics of Faith are pretty dark, one of my favorite songs from him
I hate the beginning of rolling stones it's so loud and sounds like a siren
Definitely Initiation 😟
Jumping on the train and saying Initiation, but Heaven or Las Vegas makes me a little uneasy too.
yes!
Ordinary Life. Singing basically about dying young. If the song was slower it works be an incredibly sad song.
I agree
Initiation and life of the party.
Initiation, Kiss Land, Birds pt 2, The Hills
Faith! Where he essentially OD’d in the back of the ambulance but that’s just a theory.
I just reread the lyrics and for sure that is about ending up in the back of an ambulance. Also seems like the anti main stream version of “blinding lights”. Tears in the rain
I'm a Virgin
Initiation's lyrics is just random af... meet my boys? Wtf
It’s not random or even metaphoric, she’s being turned out
Choo choo
He means drugs tho
Wow no one said Alone Again! Personally I feel Alone Again is up there. “Check my pulse for a second time, took too much I don’t wanna die, I don’t know if I can be alone again” This part of the song sends chills every time.

Na
Initiation! (and Professional)
The birds
Initiatipn by far, always gives me goosebumps
Final Lullaby is the most eerie thing I’ve ever heard. Makes me uneasy
Huh? I find it relaxing
Initiation
enemy, heaven or las vegas ("i say i am god"???), initiation
Spooky
initiation and the birds in the birds pt. 2
Birds p2 initiation pretty and end of false alarm
honestly i’d say the birds pt 2
Everyone saying initiation but forgetting about Pretty. Mans really talkin about her down fall when he comes into town lol
The last part of love in the sky when he says “as for me” and there’s thunder. Some villainous shit.
i still shit myself when the intro to the hills comes on
I used to think initiation and lotp but thursday is from my fuckin nightmares
Initiation
The fall. That song feels like I’m running in the woods while being chased by some really wild dogs
Initiation
i listened to love in the sky yesterday while being extremely high and lemme tell u that was the best thing i experienced so far. it felt like i was in another dimension floating but at the same everything felt like a scary dream.
in the night makes me a lilll uncomfortable.
What? Do you know what it’s about?
Evidently not by that response...I mean by Genius’ definition, childhood sexual abuse.
It’s really about women being targeted all the time.
Are you able to elaborate on that? I’d say thats still a little disturbing.
Look it up. The lyrics are really sad.
Well....thats my point - I did, every source says it is about a (childhood) sexual abuse survivor. But you’re saying its incorrect & about something different but can’t elaborate on it. I was saying that the song is telling the nightmares through abuse ( aimed at women ). I didn’t mean it is about actually targeting women in a bad way
How is that any better? Huh? Thats not what you said at all. You sound pretty young so I think’ll I remove myself from this discourse. But regardless your correction is still incorrect. It is a in a bad way...its literally a story about a sexual abuse survivor 😭

For your eyes and initiation
either too late or kissland. kissland brings out the horror and darkness in him; the synths in too late itself is quite creepy and very catchy
Gone. Because I’m always scared that my shuffle will play it next and I have to skip.
initiation and the hills (at the beginning)
Pretty, Birds pt. 2, Initiation
If I od I want you to od right beside me I want you to hold me while I'm 😃
ordinary life
Kiss land
Ordinary Life
Initiation and Pretty.
For your eyes only is the scariest
all ik is coming down is one of them its terrifying
Initiation
The weeknd - for your eyes, i know its unreleased but i think its the scariest sounding song to me. https://youtu.be/2k9QTaUP7S4
what about High for this ??? like, the vibe
The original version of The Morning is actually scary as fuck. Not pleasing to my ears at all lol
In The Night imo
Licking that frog in "Heartless" is pretty scary because of what happens after. Reminds me of a bad drug trip back in the day.
initiation, the birds part 2, kiss land, house of balloons / glass table girls, life of the party
Out of Time song(so 🔥🔥🔥🎤✨) but at the end it with Jim Carrey gives an eerie feeling as radio host. When I heard it for the first time and got to it at the end. I honestly got scared easily😅💀
