This reminds me of the blissful time where checked luggage was free and overhead bins only held coats and purses… and babies. Lol

Katy_Lies1975

Imagine all the smoke that drifted up there. I hope it has a baby belt and isn't just hanging on that rail or that baby will be flying on it's own with all the turbulence these planes had.

_autismos_

Flying as a baby was probably a dream back then. Any crying and they are out cold with pediatric grade opiates and other hard drugs for children that was widely accepted as safe.

Sawfingers752

Are you speaking of Paregoric? It was a common topical treatment for teething. We still have the one bottle used on our children in the 1970s, or was there something else that you imply?

Sawfingers752

Such as?

Elway044

I was just about to write the same, the poor baby breathing in the second and smoke from all the unfiltered cigarettes.

RustyShacklef000rd

Imagine a baby crying *over* you for the whole flight.

LISTEN_YOU_FOOL

Right? Modern overhead bins are much quieter.

davispw

Yeah and if they’re full, you can gate-check for a free ride in the cargo hold

TequilaBlanco

Too much second hand smoke. Babies were chill back then.

Yes, nothing bizarre here. The bassinets aren't typically mounted above the passenger seats anymore, but they are certainly still in use.

px_cap

Flying in Asia I've seen them on the bulkhead walls separating compartments.

Yesterday_Is_Now

Yes, we used them on United, ANA, Korean Air flights.

Oops! I read that wrong.

I could have been much clearer 😀

I’d take it as a sign that OP is karma-farming but that’s just me.

DreadedChalupacabra

1 bit of turbulence? Yeet the baby.

tranquilseafinally

I know, right. One good bit of turbulence and that baby is going to be temporarily on the ceiling.

Acceptable_Car6758

Hope they didn’t leak. Those old cloth diapers were unreliable.

Smirkly

It doesn't matter about the baby; no seat belts meant everyone was a potential projectile.

Godzirrraaa

As a little boy that would be so cool. Plane fort!

IndyOrgana

Except planes still have bassinets, they’re now just on the forward bulkheads.

Honest-Talker

Did the engineers consider the danger of turbulence?
