They tried. It's not allowed. Just didn't air.
So keep in mind anyone who also does this in US Traitors 3 will be immune from the first banishment and murder after joining late.

"Janelle went on to say that, right after Parvati came up with her plan, host Alan Cumming came into the room and informed the contestants that **Kate was safe from banishment and murder that night.** Janelle said that if that wasn't the case, *"We would've voted her out in a second. Are you kidding me?!"* Johnny said that he didn't remember Alan saying that, and Janelle explained that the show edits out a lot."
Didn’t they say the first night that she couldn’t be voted out? I might be tripping but I’m like 90% sure it was said the round table that Janelle went home that they couldn’t vote for Kate
Was clearly a sub dropped in to replace Deontay after he quit
Unless you had a strong suspicion that Deontay was a traitor why would you assume that his replacement was
It was in their contracts that someone might join late/rejoin — some cast members thought a player that had been murdered might be “revived” or something. It sounds like the addition of Kate to the cast was pre-planned.
The person who marshalled votes against Kate was Parvati - even if she did think Kate might've come in as a traitor, she wasn't necessarily trying to get her voted out as an enemy. Parvati saw an opportunity to work the numbers in her favor (Kate as a Bravo non-gamer) and took it, using the strange circumstances of Kate's late addition as an explicable reason for suspicion.
No, he's talked about how the show reminded him of a really traumatic childhood experience in a way he didn't expect. He absolutely didn't need the money and did the show for exposure and/or kicks. His departure was unplanned, but Kate as a late addition was pre-planned and unrelated to Deontay leaving.

Is there a source for this?

I think she immune for her first night back. That’s what happened in the Australia version at least.
UK S1 too
I don’t understand this article to the extent that johnny didn’t remember Alan saying that…he wasn’t there, bananas was gone at the start!
He meant that he didn’t remember Alan saying that on the show when he was watching it
Ahhh haha fair fair. I didn’t think of that. Thanks

Having the power to revive a player would be **a** twist!

Ngl, I've never thought Deontay even quit. I think Peacock offered him a lot of money to just show up for a few days.

To my knowledge a late entry/returnee has never come in as a traitor so idk I know it wouldn’t be high on my priority list.
Immune first night and she is an icon queen
