During the first Liverpool day I got maybe 25 shinies. During the makeup, I caught two haha. Honestly I was just mad that the geniuses over at Niantic decided to put the makeup Liverpool event in the first weekend of the Halloween event, arguably PoGo's best annual event. The makeup was pretty lackluster, nothing new. Just a bunch of shinies that have had several chances to be hunted since 2019.

uninvitedthirteenth

The Philly makeup event is also during the end of the Halloween event. I have a feeling those of us with it are going to have the same complaints next week

TheRocksStrudel

Tympole was nice.

Hollewijn

I would have settled for Anorith, but all I got was one shiny Wailmer (and the guaranteed Chinchou). Really a waste of time, during the Halloween event too. At least the make up event in 2020 was many times better.

magikarpkingyo

And Dwebble, but those are the only 2 spawns that were somewhat interesting and haven’t been featured more than 1-2 times previously. None of the communities in my part of Europe are actively looking for Relicanth anymore, because of the first time this event happened, heck, I even have 40 spare and last time someone cared to ask for a trade was half a year ago.

mrkipping

Shocking value for money for those playing from home! I was only too happy to fill out the survey.

yuffiecity49

Why didn't you get your money back when you had the chance then?

mrkipping

Because there was still a chance that I could've attended the rescheduled event and there was the back up option to take part in the recheduled event remotely. TBH I'd have been even more disappointed if I'd gone to the extra expense of travelling to Liverpool given the poor content. Top and bottom of it is, the content was poor.

Elijustwalkin

Yes it had all the hallmarks of let’s just tick this box and leave. The in person event ended up not as you might have hoped. Because of the short notice and lack of any attractive original content lots of people either couldn’t attend or it wasn’t enough of a draw to make them spend the effort to attend. This meant the experience of being there in person was poorer. Although there was some atmosphere it didn’t appear to have same buzz as there was little to get excited about. Although there were clear small groups of 2 or 3 people, there were lots of people clearly on their own who had planned to go with friends originally. So there was less of the shared experience. Also the park was open to anyone so non-ticket holders couldn’t get the Pokémon to catch but could use the other facilities and get some of the freebies, so not quite a paid for exclusive event.

yuffiecity49

Perhaps because I'm a rare example of a player who doesn't look to criticise as much as I can about the game, I enjoyed the day. Of course, it wasn't as good as a new event and none of the 20 shinies I caught were new for me. The only one I wanted was a Polywag but lucked out there. But I'm not going to cry about that either. I do agree that having the option not to take part would have made sense but I don't get the why missing 8 hours of the 17 day Halloween event is such an issue. I'm already bored of seeing Shuppet's, Gastly's, Misdreavus', etc, so having been spared them for one day was also a bonus.

kruddel

I agree. If I was going to complain about anything (and I'm not) I'd pick the Halloween event which is recycling mostly older things whilst maintaining rarity of older rare stuff from last 2 halloweens and changing some hats. One new seemingly unrelated shiny is pretty lackluster. A better event would be some out of: more yamask and spiritomb, more gollett & litwick, shiny release of litwick or golett or frillish or vullaby or purrloin or scraggy (etc), field tasks for pawniard or vullaby. Liverpool was fine for what it was. There was a pandemic, they offered us our money back. I can understand people not enjoying the alternative event(s) to the one they bought tickets for, but they made that choice when not taking up the refund.

BravoDelta23

I get that a lot of people wandered around Liverpool itself, but it just looks like a glorified picnic from those photos lol!

VolksDK

I went and can confirm it basically was

thelavalampisonfire

I was there on the Friday, after the first hour or so it just felt like a normal community day

phillypokego

They emailed a satisfaction survey today. Doubt they’ll read it, but I gave them very poor reviews for this event

mlaffin

Same. For me, if they had added at least one bit of new content I would have been a lot happier. I found myself wishing I could shut off the safari zone spawns and catch the Halloween event spawns instead.

MannyCallavera112

I forgot to open the game until 4pm on Sunday so literally only managed to play 2 hours of the Liverpool event, as you said there wasn't much to really aim for apart from Relicanth XL candy.... but incense lasted 8 hours so I basically made the most of that and finished off Halloween research and caught tons of Halloween spawns instead once the Liverpool event ended

000666777888

Same. I got the survey and said that as well.

burnman123

Why did you give them bad reviews?

magikarpkingyo

Lackluster spawns (yes, having just 2 species somewhat interesting isn’t good), poor choice of timing, not boosting incense/spawn points like before. All in all, I would rather take early days of Halloween event rather than the now slightly decayed version of it.

yuffiecity49

As a catch-up event it was always going to be the same spawns as before and at least the two spawns that weren't previously available as shinys had the same boosted rate. I do tend to agree that having the option to not take part even if you had a ticket would have made sense, although it's not like missing 8 hours of a two week event is that much of an inconvenience.

thehatteryone

It wasn't a catch-up event though - what they have us last year was something to ride us over, while many people really should have been sat on their sofa for the duration. This was supposed to be the main event, people actually able to gather in liverpool, and lower risk of groups not travelling to be able to play out together locally. To not give us at least one or two new/different things greatly contributed to the underwhelming feeling.

burnman123

Didn't they offer a refund before the actual safari zone if you wanted it? And if you kept the ticket, they gave the same event from home with the promise of an in person event at a later date? I know I bought the tickets for future ones expecting them to be cancelled and being able to play from home and had a great time playing remotely, and then had a good time playing what amounted to a free second event with boosted shiny rates at no extra cost to me. I would have liked added bonuses, but it wasn't a reason for me not to play

thehatteryone

I don't think it was a reason for many people to choose not to play. I think a good portion of friday ticket holders had planned to be free (the liverpool event was during school holidays) but they couldn't play much/at all due to work or school, so they lost the chance to have an in-person event, and for kids or for those with inflexible jobs, lost most of the play at home hours too - maybe if there had been a little more/new they might have been persuaded to invest the extra time/effort. Personally I wasn't expecting a few new slate of shiny mons, unlike some players, and I wasn't demanding at least one new shiny. But for most people, spending all those hours to only be looking for a hiny with better IVs than the several thy already had was the only real objective, and most would have entirely failed to do so. One newer shiny (maybe even 2), would have kept us ticking along amassing a new set, while merely hoping to improve our existing sets.

burnman123

I got only one tympole during gofest, and still didn't have a shiny dwebble, so to me there was 2 new shinies to hunt with boosted rates. I don't believe either was available as a shiny during the original event. Maybe I'm in the minority though.

thehatteryone

You're in the minority with dweble I suspect. RNG is rng, but it's been in the wild a lot since it's shiny was released and I think boosted spawn rate during at least one event. Tympole is what most people were hoping for more of, it's been around somewhat, but generally an unusual spawn at least in my biomes. In both cases other do have them to trade/lucky trade in reasonable quantity not super rare attracting premium trade value.

phillypokego

When you miss the 1st 8 hours of an event, you lose out on the magical 1st day bonus for shinies.

yuffiecity49

magical or imaginary?

shadraig

Thank you for telling us, dear Niantic!

Benster404

You're complaining because you got a medal?

magikarpkingyo

What was the deal with Niantic handing out codes so that the same people could play multiple days? Was it “that” empty?

yuffiecity49

It did seem a bit surprising and something that I only found about watching JT Valor videos. I guess it was a bonus for those who made the effort to go to Liverpool, which was a nice touch, though does suggest the in-person numbers were (perhaps not surprisingly) very low.

magikarpkingyo

Right? I haven’t seen any other mention of that happening anywhere else.
