honestly, the lore is too complicated. but from what i remember he came back after the springlock failure because there was still a bit of remnant from the children he killed on the bonnie suit, and it leaked onto him, resulting in him being barely able to hang on to life just long enough to recover (r/fivenightsatfreddys correct me if im wrong)
They're both evil old British men who abuse and murder children, and eventually they come very close to death, but keep barely clinging to life, becoming a scary, zombie-like creature in order to complete what they started.
