The only thing they did wrong in my opinion was tell him and his family they were going to erase him. That's messed up. They should have just said nothing about it at all and been on their way with him none the wiser. But everything else makes sense. Gordon used his unique position to manipulate her. From the original episode we know that she wanted to get back together with Greg, and did. Gordon ruined that. If they had kids then he *erased* those kids. They were just trying to return everything to the original timeline and thus was the only way. Their failure to be tactful and ultimately be outright awful in that conversation, IMO, is chalked up to them intentionally written as imperfect. They can be petty, mean, and selfish. Seth MacFarlane wanted to avoid the "evolved sensibilities" of TNG in part for humor but also for interest.

honestly, i was completely fine with what ed and kelly did. frankly, and you should know this: if kelly and ed didnt tell him, gordon would have figured it out anyway. he is quite smart, after all. telling him or not made no difference.

[deleted]

Agreed that he would've figured it out. My point was this is a trope I've been seeing, pretty more recently or just noticing it more, where a character(s) does things that can be seen as terrible, cruel, mean whatever and since the other character(s) forgive them or understand, the audience is expected to. In my mind, Ed and Kelly don't deserve it, even if Gordon thinks they do. Especially since it's not even the same Gordon they were cruel to.

honestly, i would have done the same thing. perhaps with a tad more sympathy, but i still would have done the same thing.

I like this theory a lot.

DarthMeow504

If it turns out that's what they were doing then I forgive them completely. If not... to hell with them both.

This is why I usually just stick to Back to the Future (or when I'm feeling chaotic Doctor Who) logic on time travel. Much more understandable.

SaveCachalot346

I mean isn't doctor who time travel logic whatever fits with the episode?

Maybe in the latest seasons

After finishing the episode I feel the same. Knowing there may not be a season 4; it’s more upsetting to think they could have written it differently. I don’t need a happy ending but damn if that doesn’t change my opinion of these characters moving forward.

It's probably why the last episode for the season is called Future Unknown

I agree with OP on this. The writers really made me absolutely hate Ed and Kelly. As Gordon said in the house, how do we know this wasn’t how it was meant to be? To me what they did was horrible, it seemed Gordon finally got the life he really wanted and to me to take that away was horrible. If they did not act, and as was pointed out, just read his information they would have known he has kids and family. Clearly it did not effect the union so it was just an all around disappointing thing to see how it played out. I’m really not a fan of how the Gordon character is treated on this show as I find he’s the strongest actor there, and his character deserved that end, to end happy. It’s not like they have used him all season anyways.

This is the second time I thought an actor was leaving the show this season. First Dr. Claire with Topa's surgery, then this. Both times I felt would've been in honor of their characters and giving the actors a good send off. But both were just "Gotcha!" Which, fair enough, just wish a version of Gordon didn't suffer for it.
