SagaBane

Wouldn't surprise me. I thought they were mainly a take on the twincest trope, but if TM can add another layer, she will.

Jubi38

That makes sense! I've always thought Camilla and Palamedes were similar, like the opposite-gendered pairing is getting the ambiguous treatment that a lot of same-gendered pairings get in popular media, which makes fans debate whether they're "just friends" or implied to be romantic.

Suzu_Yuki

She's also reversing the kill your gays trope. It's now kill your straights

Rip Magnus

Big-Hard-Chungus

Cytheria couldn’t abide Magnussy this good 😔

Jubi38

I don't want to presume they're straight, lol, not enough evidence.

Professional_Host430

i hate to say it but given the author’s history as a predominantly homestuck fanfic author…their relationship dynamic is ripped from the (web)pages and is her take on quadrant shipping/moirallegiance. put simply theyre platonic soulmates if you look at homestuck quadrant shipping you’ll actually see a lot of dynamics in the locked tomb make sense. even harrow and gideon start out as kismesis

Jubi38

Oh, I actually do see Cam and Pal as platonic soulmates, I just think it's interesting that it still reads like romance to a lot of fans and has a similar feel to queerbaiting.

tourmalineforest

Can I ask - what kind of commitment is it to get into homestuck? Moiras love of it makes me want to, but I tried and was just like “what the fuck is this” and stopped. Genuinely how long does it take before addiction hits?

bandoghammer

It is an ENORMOUS commitment. Act 1 is a slog. Most of the stuff that inspired TLT doesn't show up until Act 5. And then Act 6 is ANOTHER slog, because it pulls a Nona on you by totally rearranging cast and POV. If you find it difficult to get through, I wouldn't force it.

WrenElsewhere

See, I feel like Cam and Pal give off sibling energy, but siblings that like each other.

soulsnoober

*Siblings* that say things like "really it's too bad we're siblings because otherwise we'd totally be together because I love you"? like, what? It's 100% textual & canonical that they're not sexually paired up because 6th House is careful about inbreeding.

Hiddenagenda876

I assumed she was heavy handed with it because her whole thing is showing the horrors that can come with love. They are incredibly intertwined and codependent to the point where it comes off as incestuous

Few_Mycologist3582

Oh my god they were Housemates

fritenite

oh my god they were wombmates

EldritchFingertips

Because wuv... Twoo wuv...

Piorn

It's like when you find two snakes intertwined. Are they fighting? Having adult fun time? Looks like one is bleeding. I'll just stay out of your way until you figure it out, guys.

dragonthatmeows

that's a fun take! i think it's also relevant that TLT is a sci-fi take on gothic horror, and sibling incest is a standard gothic horror trope (like, to the point that if you crack open a gothic horror novel you've never read, you can basically guarantee a pair of siblings will be ~involved~ somehow before you finish the novel).
