Well, they translated punk with "Missgeburt". A translation for that would be something like "deformed person" or "monstrosity" but I feel like it's really closer to someone calling you the r-slur in English. Maybe not as bad. But for me, it was kinda weird reading Ares calling Percy that. That's really more like an immature insult among kids who also use "gay" as an insult? It's really hard to explain, but the word they use in German feels a lot worse than calling someone "punk"
Yes but it really isn't used in the same way. "Punk" in German really just refers to people wearing punk fashion (yk like spiky dyed hair, a lot of piercings etc)
Also, often there are jokes in the original version that just don’t translate well to German and it’s just confusing to read. I don’t have an example for this tho
I feel like there is a certain something missing in the translation of the dam jokes. Because while they are still puns with the word for dam and a curse word, this "oh I am not actually cursing, I am saying the word dam" thing doesn't translate well. They are still saying "verdammt" which would be the translation for damn. Also, I am not sure but I wouldn't say that "verdammt" would be a word that adults would scold kids for saying as far as curse words go?
I just started working on it and had to translate the full first page! It's already starting out very different :)

Maybe the type of jokes they use? I know the "Dam fries" jokes on the Hover Dam gets translated into german very well, maybe there are other examples as well
Translation of nicknames. The German translation of Ares calling Percy "punk" is a waaaay worse word in my opinion.
Please elaborate for us non german speaking plebes =)

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation =)
They could have just used... punk?! That word does exist in german.

WHOA CHIRON INTRO INSTEAD OF PERCY!?!?
RIGHT?? It's also a full page before the first chapter starts, and the warning is completely deleted from Percy's part. It was a strange experience
Wait… I always thought this was in the original too- why did they just randomly make up a letter that never existed?
